Mini Map Add-On: contribute or take away from the feeling of Adventure

I would like to see a minimap in the base UI for one simple reason: so the detractors can't use the argument that the minimap addon gives its user and "advantage" that can't be had without using it. That argument shouldn't be allowed if the answer to the question, "if this was available in the base UI, would you use it?" is"no" for the vast majority of people complaining about the so-called "advantage".
I don't think anyone sees a minimap as an advantage, so worry less.

Personally, I find not having a minimap 'liberating'. I'm good at navigating with a map, but I do tend to just steer the dot towards the circle rather than actually navigate the terrain.

    Complaints about the compass?
    - pressing 'f' on the map is pretty counter-intuitive, I always press 'e', followed by muttering some 4-letter words.
    - I'd like to know 'which road leads to my destination fastest' (e.g. in a town, is the north/east or south/east exit appropriate if I want to travel east?).

I started on Morrowind and personally find minimaps to be more immersive than the compass. I have difficulty navigating using the compass, and having to open the large map every few seconds breaks my immersion.

Now THAT'S a pretty minimap! Fully functional, as well as attractive. *sigh* I'd love to have it back...

As long as enemy players don't show up on the mini map I'm fine with it. I like there being no mini map for PvP because it makes it more realistic, you have to actually see the player instead of looking for some red dot on your mini map.

For any of you addon developers out there. I suggest an alternative to the minimap, an alternate compass.

I too find it a little disorienting to try and keep track of the compass line at the top of the screen, the "compass" thing a minimap often provides (Being able to tell the direction your facing from a top-down visual instead of just a letter on a bar) seems to be easier to use. So if anyone could make such a compass, or know of one that already exists. I'd be very delighted. :)

Fyrakin's minimap has a circular option that can rotate with you and have a compass border, so if you can either mod yourself or convince someone to basically place a compass texture over the minimap that would work.

Holy necro post Batman. This thread before you post ended 10 days after launch.
Power level to CP160 in a week:
Where is the end game? You just played it.
Why don't I have 300+ skill points? Because you skipped content along the way.
    Where is new content? Sigh.

I like the compass, and I rarely open my map unless I am setting a waypoint.

Luckily those with a different opinion can just grab a mini-map addon (I have seen at least one).

    Everyone wins, lets have cake.

I dont like the compass. But i like minimaps. So i got a minimap and disabled the compass.

    Done. =)

I don't use a minimap. I prefer a very minimal UI. I find having to look around and open my map helps me to learn the environment.

My first character quickly worked up to vet levels with a lot of in-your-face data in 3rd person but now I am working on a character playing in 1st person with a lot of the noise disabled but with several add-ons to:

    1. Switch to 3rd person in combat.
    2. Hide dialog. I actually have to listen to what the npc is saying.
    3. Pin killer. No on-compass pins and no pins pointing at doorways. I have to read the quest and open my map to figure out where I am going.
    4. I use Clarity which completely hides my chat window and quest objectives. I can still toggle them on when I need them.

The game feels much more immersive without being frustrating.
