I've seen no official confirmation (because there is none) but apparently somehow there was a massive spillover of gold and items from the PTS to the live servers due to a bug that was heavily exploited and spread like wildfire. I've even heard rumors that the exploiters willfully distributed part of the exploited gold and items they got to other completely unsuspecting players presumably to either get Twitch subs/views or maybe even actively try to stimy reprisals by dragging innocent people down with them. How in the world does something like this happen at all let alone be allowed to get so out of hand? I would appreciate it if someone with technical knowledge can explain so that I can be more weary in the future.

Personally, I haven't logged into the game at all since last night, have not traded with other players in a while, and have never downloaded a PTS client so I am not concerned for myself even if there is a complete server rollback but surely there will be thousands of players who are not as fortunate and will stand to lose a great deal as a result. This entire debacle is further exacerbated by the mother of all grinds-- err, I mean the 10th year anniversary event. If people lose those style pages after spending countless mind-numbingly boring hours farming for them they would be understandably completely gutted. Furthermore, any attempt to then make them whole such as by increasing the drop rate on the style pages or even putting them up on the event ticket vendor will annoy everyone who has already gone to hell and back to get them.

It's not an understatement to call this an unmitigated disaster... I sure hope for everyone's sake that lessons are learned from this.

Mistakes are made sometimes. Settle down chicken little. They will roll back a few hours and all will be well.

A few people will be inconvienenced, but it isn't the end of the world.

No one is gonna get in trouble, and they're gonna roll it all back.

    Meh.

No there isn't. Where do you see an explanation beyond some vague reference to "ongoing issues" related to the PTS?

Here is a post with official ZOS acknowledgement that the provided summary was accurate

Thanks! But this was neither a sticky nor readily visible as the other poster indicated. I very rarely post on these forums and only now realized something was amiss when I couldn't log in. Some of us work and only have a few hours in the evening to play the game on week days, let alone keep apprised of what disaster had unfolded during the day. I didn't see any harm in making a post about it trying to get an answer but apparently that was a mistake given the hostile replies. I guess I will go back to blissfully ignoring these forums.

I wasn't being hostile, just pointing to a post I had seen earlier, before it got pushed down to the 2nd or 3rd page of posts, that had a good summary that was backed up by a ZOS poster. /shrug

Oh not you, I meant the others. You were the only one who was actually kind enough to provide an answer. Sorry if I wasn't clear and once again my thanks.

IMHO this is a historical event for the game, and the gaming industry as a whole. I believe no other company ever, has had this type of thing happen during an Anniversary event before.

I just hope they have actually practiced the data recovery and restoration process.
