Can I move to Steam with my existing account?

Hi all. I have a retail copy of ESO, pre-Tamriel Unlimited. However, considering how my entire Bethesda collection is on Steam, I'd really like to get ESO there too. I plan to buy the Gold Road Collection to catch up on several missed chapters and so I was wondering:

If I buy it on Steam, can I use my existing ESO account to log into it without losing progress?

I ask this because I figure, if I'm going to spend $60 on the Collection, I may as well get it on Steam so that I can finally make the move there and have my complete Bethesda collection on Steam. However, I don't want to risk spending that $60 unless I know that I'm able to use my existing ESO account that way. I tried finding answers for this online but the little bit of info I found left me confused and uncertain, so I'd like to discuss this myself and see what I can learn. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Yes, I just did this from a ZOS direct purchase to now playing through Steam/new purchase. Just link your Steam account on here first to make it even smoother. If you don't, when you first run the game through Steam, you have to select create an account or link an existing.

Awesome, thanks for chiming in! If anyone else has experience with this, or have had any issues with it, please do let me know. I'd like to get at least a few peoples' experiences here before I give it a go, just so I know exactly what to expect haha

Not to bump this but I finally finished Greymoor so I'm ready to jump into Necrom, does anyone else have any experiences or advice to add before I try it?
