There are always those who find ways to trick the unwary into being flagged - and then ganked. I sincerely hope the devs don't ever go this direction - not even for a week.

Trust me when I say, this is a 1000% stupid idea.

    Why?

Because in the last 20 years all games which where PvE/PvP like ESO and did something like that went downhill within weeks. The devs then did one of two things:

    A ) They rolled back 100%.

    or

B ) They made it so that players could opt-in/-out manually, which ultimately led to the realization that only an extremly small minority of the playerbase used this feature. Those players in most cases where gankers, griefers and hardcore pvp'ers. All which did NOT want to fight each other in big zones/areas, since it wasn't fun. At the end they moved back to PvP arenas, dungeons or what ever and the overland pvp died.

As an example for B ) I can mention SWToR. There they made PvP in all zones possible and it didn't went well. Most players hated it, so that at the end only a small zone with *forced* pvp was left and the rest was turned into manual opt-in/-out, which is not used by 99,9% of all players in those zones/areas.

I like the idea of a new open world pvp event.

However I would like to counter it with, a event in which we swap.

For 1 or 2 Weeks, pve players get Cyro and IC and pvp players get the remainder of Tamriel.

I would love to be able to seige Mournhold. :)

If some would enjoy that, why not? Just, I wouldn't play as long as it's ongoing.
It's no worries for me because I have no problem staying off the game: If no good, I don't log on, as easy as that. It's very comfortable. :D

However, upon returning after that event, I would have to make a big donation to my trading guild to compensate for the loss of cash.

    1. Astronomically.
    2. Because many people wouldn't like to stop playing ESO for a week, but value their time too much to be ganked every 5 steps while trying to do it anyway. And most of the players just aren't here because of/for the PvP.
(That said, I'm old-fashioned, so I'd rather say "ignored", not "cancelled". Sounds less drama-queeny.)

What about ZOS also implemented an option in the death recap to give a cumulative week ban to those who kill unwilling people not wanting in participating on such "event"? Example, if a player kill five others and all of them report him/her and then ZOS apply the ban such player would not be able to play for 5 whole weeks. It's fair since you are making me play harder or not making me able to play the game for the duration of such "event".

I somewhat imagine a faction vs faction but instead of free pvp there would be limmitations. For example, an AD player can either kill EP/ DC players that enter their home zones or go pvp to enemy zones. You can kill only players from the enemy factions thus creating a sort of safe areas.

It's been happening for more than 20 years. Ultima Online did a similar thing in the late 90s (or possibly 2000?).

Originally the entire game was PvP enabled with "consequences" like 'you'll be marked a murderer' and 'that would be wrong and your fellow players won't like it' intended to discourage ganking. It did not and gankers were a big problem early on, so then they added a duplicate version of the world where PvP was impossible outside certain arenas. (They also gave the original a "darker" theme with random bones and grave stones dotted around.)

The PvP-enabled version quickly became a ghost town because no one else wanted to deal with the gankers (even people who like PvP, because gankers are never interested in a real fight) and the gankers didn't want to stay if they couldn't farm easy targets and would have to actually be able to clear dungeons and things themselves to get loot.

Players would always warn newbies to never go there but ironically after a year or so it was most popular with people farming certain rare items from nodes (like nirncrux in ESO), because the loot tables were seperate to the PvE map and there were so few people there you had a better chance of finding them. (I assume that changed at some point, because if it became too well known the gankers would be back.)

    "PVP in the PVE zone..."

    No thanks.

This type of game design idea has discussed many times at the other thread already.
But 90% of suggestion already failed.

    Why?

Because ESO game system based on "meta gimmick".(meaning is "gear" and CP
or character build ) Thus, ZOS designed PVE and PVP just like totally different game title.

Secondary, I hate that someone disturb my story quest by PVP attempting.

Fallout76 have those type of game system, but...
most people disable "PVP option" at the game configuration.
Same situation will happen in the ESO also.

And, we already have "dual" system.

Good thing you're not one of the developers.

Most people don't like PvP and they do want their characters to be killed for whatever reasons.

Also what would even be the point? Alliance Points, why would you get Alliance Points when your just killing random players, many of whom have never stepped foot in PvP so would still have the rank of Citizen so again why would killing random "Citizens" earn you Alliance Points when you're not even fighting for your alliance.

That would just make your character a criminal who should have every guard attack them on sight.

I do think it could be briefly amusing to flip things so there's no PvP in Cyrodiil and PvP enabled everywhere else. (Maybe have designated safe zones that everyone loads into, so they can pick where to go next.) But the key word there is briefly.

PvEers would at best rush through all the quests, delves, skyshards etc. in Cyrodiil then have nothing left to do, and at worst get bored before then because there's not a lot of PvE activities in Cyrodiil and they're all pretty generic.

Meanwhile PvPers would have a similar problem in that the map layout outside of Cyrodiil is too spread out. It's too easy to avoid other players with no 'pinch points' and no incentive to all head to the same areas like there is in Cyrodiil where most people will be trying to take or defend the same objectives. They'd spend most of their time looking for people to fight or just doing PvE quests.

I think good, appropriate map design is even more important for PvP than PvE.

A better idea would be the ability to opt into always-on PVP in the entire game world during the event. It'd be chaos but people wouldn't have to participate if they didn't want to.
