Cake Devourer Figured Out

Wanted to say that I figured my issue out.

You have to buy the cake slices from the event vendor for 1 ticket each. Guess this wasn't really spelled out obviously.

I always understood it that way. The article says they're in the tickets vendor and anywhere it says you can obtain them some other way, so no issues nor misunderstading for me at all.

i really do not like that they tied an achievement to buying something from the ticket vendor, unless there is some other way to obtain the cake slices

Why not? They're just 1 ticket per slice and you get a total of 60 tickets in this event, not even counting if you already had spare tickets from past Jester's event.

no other event achievement has required spending tickets to complete when it was introduced (unless it was a really old thing that got moved to grab bags since it doesnt drop)

the amount of these is still like 3 days worth of tickets wasted on just this too

just feels like the achievement is "pay 2 win" because it costs event tickets, that are 1) a very limited resource and 2) can be bought with crowns (yes i know it doesnt really have any effect on gameplay, but its still a horrendous precedent to set)

yeah, i dont care at all about the furnishings

i just want the achievement lol, but if theres no way to earn it in game outside of spending event tickets, that is bad design

when i first saw this i thought you would have gotten credit on the achievement for eating each of the different cakes from the mementos, but if its required to buy something with event tickets thats just awful

its a slippery slope, eventually they could add an achievement that could require so many tickets it could take 2 or 3 events to finish, leaving little room to spend tickets on anything else

If the achievement was tied to eating from the cakes themselves, then plenty of people wouldn't be able to get it if they weren't here for all the years.

I bought the cake slices to pair them with the full cake replicas I have scattered about my houses. I think it's a nice decorative touch.

Very limited resource? It's 7 cake slices and you can get 60! tickets, so you are left with 53 tickets! and you say tickets are very limited resource?

Obviously ZOS calculated this and gave us more tickets than usual so you can EASILY get your slices and still have a huge amount of tickets left.

    No reason to complain.

    for now it is

what if i wanted to get other things with said tickets? im still missing non combat indriks (which are all 10 ticket each), or due to RNG not getting the drops this event for something else

like collecting the new mount, your actually gonna basically have to spend a number of tickets on the mount fragments

and then theres also the new morphing fragments for this year, which is another 10 or so tickets

what im saying is theres already too much to get with just the "free" tickets, especially if your RNG is poor

again, what im saying is this is bad precedent/slippery slope, in the future there could be an achievement that needs 10 items that cost 5 tickets each, thats 50 tickets worth, and if they dont drop during the event, your being forced to spend those tickets to get that achievement, right now its 7 tickets, thats slightly over 2 days worth of tickets that i could be spending on literally anything else in this event

i do feel bad for those who missed out on some of the parts that require spending on grab bags to get (such as the skeletal marrionette for example, that is 10 fragments at 2 tickets each IF you dont have anything else to get in the grab bags)

There's also 2 personality fragments, so that's 20 tickets, probably should budget for 10 for imp fragments to not fall behind. Then there's tickets to spend to complete the Jubilee mount, not sure how many that would be. 60 tickets but 2 events worth of stuff means that people may still have to prioritize and choose which things are important to them.

Well, if you are going years back mentioning items you are missing (like Indriks and so) of course you will need more than 60 tickets.

That has nothing to do with spending 7 tickets on some achievements/furniture but with you missing old stuff that you will probably still be missing after this event, again, regarless spending or not 7 tickets in the cakes.

if only assuming this years stuff, as mentioned theres 2 parts of the personality for the morphable - 20 tickets total
then if you wanted the new anniversary mount, i dont think its possible to get all the fragments from drops if it is 1 per day, which i think you need another amount of tickets for that (i dont know exact details on that yet as i havent been in game yet to see what that cost is)

and then theres new style pages, which again if your having bad RNG and not getting the ones you need is also costing tickets

and that is just new items for this event

my main point is that no holiday achievement (when it was first added) required tickets to obtain, usually the items were obtained through the event by either participating in the event quest or from the event boxes

im not actually missing a lot of old stuff, but some people are, which makes the ticket budget even tighter unless your straight up buying event tickets with crowns

Yes, in all events you miss stuff because of main item fragments, pet fragments, style pages, furtniture, etc., so this event is no different.

Each player will decide what they want to spend their 60 tickets on, no difference with this event since, again, the cake slices are furniture too.

Also, there are players, a huge amount, one even posted above, that don't care about achievements, so once again it all comes to players choice (regardless it's an achievement, furniture, style pages, etc.)

Finally, there's a reason why you can buy tickets in the Crown Store in case of FOMO.

Ohh if the cakes slices are not bound that's pretty cool. As noted by some everyone has to make choice for what they get with the events or even if they are worth doing at all. Will be paying attention to pricing as the event draws to an end in case I have extra tickets.

Some events end with an abundance or extra tickets and some with a lack thereof depending on luck and player wants. I thankfully have been around long enough that there isn't too much I have missed and slowly gathering those parts when I do have tickets gives incentive to try a little more to get all the tickets.

if they arent bound, where are you getting them? since everything bought with tickets is bound (based on how the ticket vendor has worked for everything else)

and yeah, everything in the game is "player choice", im pointing out that this is not something that has been done before and is a bad precedent with achievements and limited currency

i honestly dont want to waste tickets on furnishings i dont want, the achievement should be earnable by just eating the cakes (and for those who would complain thats not doable, you can eat a cake summoned by other player, just like you can use the witches cauldron spawned by another player, as long as you are grouped with said player)

This year is different and cake slices are not bound. Maybe for that reason so if you don't want to spend tickets you can get them from players that don't mind spending tickets on them and then trading or selling the slices.

Take it as another option that ZOS is giving us to get the cakes.

that would make it more available then, but still awful that they cost tickets in the first place, you would think they would just be dropped with event boxes and you know, earnable by earning event boxes

tying it to the whole ticket system just seems like bad form, which is what i have more of a problem with

if they arent bound with ticket purchase, might as well just load up my 2nd acct to buy them for me so im not wasting tickets on my main acct

Wait. It is an achievement you can literally buy for RL cash ?! :open_mouth:

If so, I mean if there even is a possibility to buy it for RL cash, then it has no value at all lol. And obviously, something like this should not be a thing in an mmo, or any other "live service" multiplayer game. It devalues effort & time investment to "zero".

just feels like the achievement is "pay 2 win"...

...i know it doesnt really have any effect on gameplay

      THEN IT'S NOT PAY2WIN.

Achievements are arguably winning though. Kind of the point of them

Wait. It is an achievement you can literally buy for RL cash ?! :open_mouth:

If so, I mean if there even is a possibility to buy it for RL cash, then it has no value at all lol. And obviously, something like this should not be a thing in an mmo, or any other "live service" multiplayer game. It devalues effort & time investment to "zero".

thats basically how the cake devourer achievement is set up right now

buy 7 event ticket, buy cake slices, get achievement

Personally, I agree with @Necrotech_Master in that this sets a dangerous precedent for having to use event tickets to get an achievement. The number of tickets we have to spend doesn’t matter. This achievement could have easily been for something that we could have done in-game, i.e. using the anniversary cake 7 days during the event, for example. It doesn’t matter if some people care about achievements and some people don’t, this affects everyone that use event tickets for anything. If we don’t voice our concerns (or even if we do) more achievements could be locked behind event tickets in the future. Already we have them saying if we want the event horse we HAVE to buy some of the fragments with tickets this time because there is no way enough will drop from the boxes. I don’t like that myself, but it is what it is.

if they arent bound, where are you getting them? since everything bought with tickets is bound (based on how the ticket vendor has worked for everything else)

This year is different and cake slices are not bound. Maybe for that reason so if you don't want to spend tickets you can get them from players that don't mind spending tickets on them and then trading or selling the slices.

Take it as another option that ZOS is giving us to get the cakes.

        This is not intended.

How so? What other purpose do they serve than to "win" at a particular gameplay element?

How about the folks who, say, buy crowns with real money, trade the crowns for gold and then pay gold for a carry to get a trial achievement? You cannot say that this achievement is not bought with RL cash.

Such a person is circumventing the design using roundabout methods. It is not the game itself being pay2win by design.
