It's official. No more Stalking Blastbones, and nothing to compensate for the loss in burst. PvP Necros will now be relegated to pressure builds and DoT Proc setups. It was a good run.

Class kit is still just as clunky, but now even more restrictive. Great changes ZOS.

I disagree with that statement - it is clunkier now. Instead of having to deal some occasional BB derp-outs, necromancers now have to micromanage yet another timer and a stack-building mechanic.

Yes, but also no... because most people aren't going to use GLS in the first place.

It will just be ignored for a few years before they rework it again despite overwhelming feedback throughout the entire PTS, even simple feedback like the "in combat" requirement being clunky AF, is still there.

In PvP the actual ricochet rarely lands, as there are two opportunities for it to be dodged, and the requirements of being in range and within LoS, which in PvP tends to be a coin flip due to positional desync and movement.

LOL. I know they do not listen to feedback but I still cannot help but be surprised that this is shipping as is. It shouldn't surprise me but how [snip] bad it is just blows me away every time. wow oh wow

    Sadly, that highlights the issue.
Necro was broken right out of the box. The forum was just distracted by the fact that harmony necro and the ult were strong. The rest of the class was and is very mediocre. Arcanist does not have this issue; apart from the portal spell, everything about Arcanist is very well put together and functional.
Would that Necromancer was as high a quality class on launch as Arcanist, we wouldn't be in this position.

Now that I have seen the changes to the class, my magcro is officially retired. I persevered with it for a long time, but it is now time to let go. It is not going to get any better. I am now relying on scribing to hopefully make magsorc viable, so i can get my mage class fantasy back.
Struggling to find a new class to call home. Please send help.

Update 42 will need to have some real Necro buffs and coherence added to the class kit, but I'm not holding my breath.

The only reason anyone would use GLS is if they found some niche set or mechanic to once again compensate for Necro's very empty toolbox. Every time this has happened for Necro it has been met with swift nerfs. Harmony double nerfed into a useless and hilariously bad trait, and Elemental Succession made Magcro competitive and fit in with their more elementalist skills so you know they had to break it apart. If Dark convergence wasn't used so much on one of their favorite classes it would have gone the way of the Dodo as well, instead they just nerfed Boneyard to the point where Graverobber couldn't even break through a wet paper bag.

This update did not pass the wallet test. Good bye Magcro your best move is now stamina and good luck my fellow Necro mains you'll need it.

I wonder how many people purchased necro when it was on sale, leveled one up, and will log in on update day and not understand what just happened to their PAID class...

I’m trying to get as many uses out of my necro before the patch drops.

Might have to do some necro only trials again.

Man, I can’t wait to go into PvP with these new changes and be slightly annoying. You know, really taunt the enemy and whisper them “Take that, it’ll bruise at some point!”

I feel like Necromancer is Meg in Family Guy and it’s the episode where they all get mighty superpowers and all Meg got was slightly bigger nails.

Flame Skull ''MIGHT'' have some use in PvP since GLS makes third cast AoE and by extension it should also make it un-dodgeable. Other than that, the rest of the offensive kit is the same crap as always:

-Avid Boneyard can be walked away from, Grave Robber synergy was gutted a while ago.
-Shocking Siphon can be walked away from and can also break from small obstacles on the ground.
-Skeletal Mage can't even be commanded to attack a specific target.
-Glacial Colossus can be walked away from before 3rd hit stun happens.

This is the same class that has the lowest access to sources of named buffs, has no on-demand cc, no execute skill, and not a single sticky DoT.

In PvE the rotation is becoming even more demanding, since you now have to manage your 3x Flame Skull casts before using your Corpse consuming skills and with worse sustain since Reusable Parts is not affecting your main skill now.

Unless I'm missing something, this is literally the opposite of what the Necromancer changes were supposed to address.

The initial target can still be dodged. It's no different than Reverse Slice - the AoE proc itself is undodgeable but the initial target of the skill can still dodge the attack and prevent the AoE portion from firing.

Yikes. Guess we are stuck with this BS for at least 6 months.

Personally I'm okay with the change, gonna need to get used to the shift in rotation but that's nothing new. If there's something I'm going to be wanting in future, and I'm hoping that's what the major PvP update will be in Q4, is for them to have separate PvP and PvE skill effects because that seems to be the main issue for balancing purposes.

It's just pathetic at this point. They've doubled down and blatantly ignored the pages and pages of feedback about how this isn't a good change for the class. Necro gets nothing for years and the one major update they do get has zos delete the ONLY good dmg skill in the entire kit. Great design choices right there. At a bare minimum, they could've change Blighted which is the more niche morph.

This is unfortunately a pipe dream that will never happen, especially on a game entering it's 10th year. ESO has well over 40-50 outdated and unused sets that they willfully choose, with every patch, are pointless to balance. ESO has classes where half the toolkit is never touched by anyone because the morphs are clearly biased, yet they prove, with every patch, that they don't care about bringing the base skills or morphs up to balance.

If they don't now, they will never have the willpower to balance all their sets and skills for different actions depending on what content they're in.

Necro got gutted in a way I've never witnessed since picking up this game in 2016. I used to be a magden main before the hybrid changes. I was livid about the shalks change, but at least that was only a retiming and power differential change. I've never mained plar, but at least jabs are still (sort of) jabs and weren't deleted and turned into a non-damaging buff.

Stalking blastbones is gone. It won't be coming back. We paid extra for this.

Best part of this is that Necromancer held up so much of the spotlight this patch that nothing was done to address how absurdly broken Siphoning Strike morphs are :D
