Actual status effect nerf?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but actually the developers wanted to improve status effects with this update. The damage of those who deal direct damage was increased. At the same time, however, the charged trait has been drastically nerfed, from 365% to 235%, which is quite a lot. Most notably, this nerf affects ALL status effects, not just the buffed ones. Which would be an overall nerf. In my opinion, the big problem with status effects is their unreliable nature. So why are they now being made even more unreliable? You can critically hit practically every second hit. Triggering a status effect, on the other hand, is much more tedious. Especially on multiple opponents.

I'm curious how you people see it. Maybe I missed something.

There are already many classes that can reliably access the status effect, or increase the chance, such as Wardens-Glacial Presence, DK-Venomous Claw, NB-Debilitate. So it makes sense to lower the charged trait.

I also requested again that New Shattering spines be given overcharged on hit! Make Shattering spines more useful in PVE.

honestly i think they should standardise sorcs magical damage to shock.

Most of the other bonuses remain the same. There is also much more skills that guarantee or increase base status effect chance by a lot vs where they were at even 2-3 years ago. There is still 100% from Destro, 60% from CP, Warden's 200% for Winter's Embrace, and Arcanist's 55% all remain in tact.

    Base chances are:
    • 20% Enchant
    • 10% Single target direct
    • 5% AoE direct
    • 3% Single target DoT
    • 1% AoE DoT

On live, using only Destro + Charged + CP, which anyone can use:
    • 125% Enchant
    • 62.5% Single target direct
    • 31.25% AoE direct
    • 18.75% Single target DoT
    • 6.25% AoE DoT

    With PTS:
    • 99% Enchant
    • 49.5% Single target direct
    • 24.75% AoE direct
    • 14.85% Single target DoT
    • 4.95% AoE DoT

If you're Warden or Arcanist, these are improved a little bit further. It seems fine for what we're gaining out of the changes. The status effects are much better balanced and to some degree, come down to preference instead of burning/poisoned or gtfo (dps).

These changes are really good for whats coming via Scribing, since a large part of customizing those skills will be the first script which chooses the damage type. Instead of everyone jumping to fire spells, the choices will be more open to actually choose what you like for RP, class passives, or simply whatever you may be missing in your kit.

honestly i think they should standardise sorcs magical damage to shock.

But this would waste Sorc's black magic identity. It would be better for Sorc to be proficient in both shock and magic attributes, and avoid being bound to a single magic element.
Let Shock cause area damage (Mages' Wrath, Hurricane, Liquid Lightning), let black magic cause direct damage to a single target (Crystal Fragments, Rune Cage)
This is also more consistent with imagination, electricity will be conducted to other targets, and black magic will curse/hrut on a single target.

What bothers me is the fact that, for example, precise and the more frequent critical hits are useful for all classes and combinations, while the nerf makes charged even more niche. But I'm just a casual gamer, I guess I don't understand the mechanics the way they're meant to.

Yeah, burning and poison were also literally nerfed. It's odd.

Particularly because the changes are supposed to improve status effects with a direct damage component, which only makes sense if you apply them consistently and continuously.
When you apply Burning, you can at least think "okay, job done", and even extend the duration with Serpent's Disdain, but if you want to make use of the better damage from Concussed now ... you can't do that without a good proc chance. That means, Charged.

And Charged was already nerfed before. I find it even harder now to justify using Heartland Conqueror with Charged, going from 730% to 470% is really brutal. Especially when it was almost 1000% before.

Maybe it's time to give all classes guaranteed access to (three specific) status effects.
    For example:
    DK-Poisoned & Burning & Sundered
    NB-Overcharged & Diseased & Poisoned
    Warden-Chilled & Hemorrhaging & Diseased
    Templar-Overcharged & Sundered & Burning
    Necro-Chilled & Diseased & Concussed
    Arcanist-Chilled & Sundered & Overcharged
    Sorc-Concussed & Sundered & Overcharged

If you want to obtain status effects other than classes identity, you need to use additional means such as Charged or Elemental Susceptibility.
This will not only allow all classes to fully utilize the new Status effects, but also enhance the identity of the profession.

Charged definitely isn't niche its still probably meta for off hand dual wield dps

Which is exactly what a niche is. It lacks applicability for more than a few cases.

This update just misses the point imho. Status effects are buffed, but the chance of them activating at all is reduced. This makes them less interesting, especially for those classes that have no or only insufficient options to use them reliably.

As far as PvP, Stinging / Rending Slashes got nerfed, but it seems like a buff to Ele Sus. So no change, then.

Single target fighting is down now that charged /flame/poison was hit

AOE fighting with charged would be silly if this is what we can look forward to:

    6d2bfmxohq40.png

Third row down (1.8%) is the disease AOE proccing every 4 seconds against six targets

Sundered may be interesting to keep up all the time but 100 weapon damage doesn’t compete at all against Nirn / precise dual wield or precise 2-H
