This is a weird ask... but I wish there was a way to mute specific sounds.

I wish I could redo my character’s voice selection lol. I rerolled a race and just go with whatever the default look is, skipping through the menus to just get back on the game. Little did I know Khajit voice options are WILDLY divergent, with the one I’m stuck with sounding like a strangled cat when I get on my mount (which ironically, is also a cat).

I was looking for an Addon for that too. Most other mmos have something like annoyance removers. LOTRO even lets you blacklist individual sounds.
I would really like to mute some things. Like the blubb-sound from Psijic Weapon, or the <flrtsch>sound from Cephaliarchs Flail. Those sounds are just gross.

You are not alone in some specific sounds being so irritating that you avoid them. I am similar although I am more insensitive than you. I can tolerate the irritation longer but I eventually succumb.

For me, I avoid making Sorcerers because the crackling energy sound effects of two of the Sorcerer’s main skills is too crackley for me to handle over and over again.

And once I had a 5 piece of Almalexia’s Mercy, and when it first triggered I freaked out and ran away from capturing a keep resource in Cyrodiil because I was thinking that some stealth ganker had tagged me with some new “marked for death” power I had not encountered yet.

I’m also like another poster here who said they turn off music and just listen to sound effects. Me too! The foley artists for ESO are brilliant. I love the work they did. I encourage more folks to do the same. Turn off music and just bathe in the ambient sounds.

I love my solitude wolf pet. But after a couple of years of him being my pet, i can't deal with one of the sounds he makes. I would LOVE to be able to turn them off, so I can have him out again. If i turn the relevant vol down, it affects the sounds of skills, and i rely on the sounds when fighting.

Some of you may find the addon "shut yer trap" useful for the NPC dialogue you never want to hear again.

Almalexias Mercy called to say this is a strange request, why would anyone want to mute one particular sound?

I have sensory processing issues with sound, and I actually have to play the game with sound turned off completely because of it. There are so many background noises in this game that I just cannot handle, way worse than any other game I've played before. A great example is the first boss fight in Darkshade Caverns 1 (the overseer dude). There's a terrible, awful humming tone throughout that entire encounter that sets my teeth on edge.

I have most sounds off. I don't want to hear the music over and over and over. I don't ming ambient sounds, but combat - eww. Dialog? MORE than EWW. I really really hate VA.....

That addon doesn't work for all NPCs - eg there are two near the stables/ WS in Stormhold that cannot be muted. Drove me nuts when I was doing the then-150 Murkmire Prepper quests, to be the point where I'd ride down the road a way to avoid their stupid lines.

In particular the "magic hum". It's used in a variety of places but you can hear it if you go to the Dragonguard Sanctum Wayshrine.

FCO ChangeStuff allows you to mute several hundred specific sound effects. Near the bottom of the addon’s in-game settings.

Idk if anyone recommended this addon yet, but there you go.

    So annoying!

When I ran from my alinor house every day to the crafts or wayshrine, it was such a relief to mute that crazy conspiracy lady.

My addon FCOChangeStuff got a sounds list where you can click and play the sound to hear it (some are even muted by the game -> do not play a sound at al allthough they exist in the SOUNDS table) and blacklist it then so it won't be played any longer.
But that's ONLY UI sounds like book opened, menu opened etc.
We cannot control nor change any effects or overland nor any music sounds
