Side quest or not, the way ZOS tends to force our characters to accept working with vampires is really annoying. Working with thieves and assassins I can generally RP around, but a vampire is a different matter entirely for virtually every character I play.
It's plain and simple bad writing when players are forced to work with vile monsters like vampires like it's the most normal thing in the world.
That's the reason I rarely do the main story of Rivenspire, Greymoor or Markarth/the Reach.

I see it like this: ESO is a huge game and it has to cater to different people with completely different interests, likes and dislikes. Some hate vampires, others hate assassins, some love vampires, others consider the Dark Brotherhood their favorite group in the game. There are many groups that are morally shady in the game, be it vampires, werewolves, daedra and their cultists, murderers, thieves, and so on. But they all also have their fans, too, so ZOS includes them as quest givers. Believe me, to some of my characters, a friendly vampire would be no problem at all, but they would never ever cooperate with a bloodthirsty assassin cultist. For other people, it might be exactly the different way around. I would never call it bad writing, though, as long as it works lore-wise, because there are others who enjoy playing this. I just try to avoid the quests that don't fit the character I'm currently playing, that's all.

Btw, to me, vampires in media vary so much, it's hard to believe that Dracula, Nosferatu, Fennorian and Mr. Sparklypants from the Twilight movies are the same type of creature.

have a zone-wide mystery (‘Where did all this jungle come from?!!’) to solve.

I honestly found that part sounding rather laughable. There's a jungle at the border of the great primal jungle* Valenwood? The shock!

If it sprung up more or less overnight, yes, although the locals are probably expecting the source to be a a rogue Greensinger not a sparkly new Daedric Prince.

I'm very much aware, I just found it funny the way they said it :p A jungle, near your Valenwood? It's more likely than you think!

I’m also wondering if this is the jungle Talos shouts away in two hundred years.
That would be a change, because he allegedly shouted it away from having existed in the first place, including in the past.
But which timeline are we in? The one where he has already shouted away the jungle, or the one he hasn't yet?

We’re in the timeline where I prevent talos ever coming into existence in the first place. :relieved:

The only vampire I've ever been able to stomach is Archer Devereux (from the Immortal Descendents books by April White).

As I said, when he shouted it away he shouted it away from ever having existed at any time. That's the reasoning they went for.
