Can we get a light source for dark areas?

all the addon does is change the ingame brightness slider depending on the time of day. Even without the addon it can still look exactly the same depending on where you put the slider at.

of course you could increase the brightness on your tv some. set your brightness in game to what zos recommends and then adjust your screen brightness of your tv to compensate. it won't blow out your eyeballs probably.

I could just turn up the brightness of course but then I would ruin that... uh, no thanks.
All I'm asking for is either a toggle for almalexias lantern or a new perma light source.

Skyrim has torches, Fallout has the pipboy light. even Morrowind had torches and lanterns iirc
    just saying.

It's a feature that is missing from the game imo.

So, for a comparison. We have the torch from the treasure hunters personality and then Almalexia's Lantern memento.
Clearly the torch is useless as a light source which is sad because I would prefer it over Almalexia's IF the light radius was at least twice as far.

Almalexia's lightens it up nicely (a little too much imo) which I use this as my main light source now. However it is on a 20 sec or so cooldown. So either a much brighter torch or Almalexia's Lantern be turned into a toggle. or both or a third option of a new proper light source item.

So, for us role players out there and immersion junkies please make it happen ZOS!

Edit: these screenshots are base vanilla ESO, no addons used. (Except for auto HDR from win 11)

    Personally love the torchlight pic.

All the single player ES games had torches. I always collected hundred's and used them rather than the various spells/staffs, and I felt like that was one of the reasons for releasing the Treasure Hunter personality in ESO. I like the personality the way it is, but I'd be OK with a torch that had a larger lighting area. Not sure I'd want it to be as bright as Almalexia's Lantern, but maybe somewhere in the middle. Might work as a longer duration memento as long as you can still walk and cancel/draw your weapon/interact. Pretty sure all the long duration mementos still allow normal game play even while using them.

More glow in the dark stuff added into the game would be cool.

Agreed. What would be perfect would be a memento that is just a small lantern that attaches to your belt and is toggleable. That way you could fight with it on, turn it on and off at will and the light radius could be about half or so of Almalexia's lantern.

I believe that Almalexia's lantern is ESO's version of mage light from Skyrim. Which is cool! Don't get me wrong, but just make it a toggle so that it makes it infinitely more useful at least!

You know, I never actually thought about it. But we do technically have Mage Light as a skill from the Mages Guild skill line. I wonder how well it works as an actual light source though....

Of course, it uses up a slot. That's a bit of a downside.

....You know, I actually HAVE it on my front bar as a spell crit booster. I'm not sure why I never thought to try and use it as a light LOL. :D

I'm not trying to sell anyone on this i swear lol but this is what a little bit of brightness tweaking and some HDR can produce in this game. It goes a long way imo.

Edit: This is how it looks every in game night and in dark places like caves. So a light source is very much needed.
I don't think HDR comes through screenshots (not sure how that all works) but you get the idea.

Sometimes I throw out an on the ground spell to light up an area. Templar shards works quite well. Wall of lightning (destro) works fairly well. You might experiment with other spell effects. Not ideal but I've found them to help.
Yes, found this nice doing that thief guild maze, guess it would work for the cloud walking to but not tested it.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Elden Ring has one too, a belt-mounted lantern, very useful, because it doesn't replace whatever weapons you're using.

    [Snip]

Some parts of the game are simply too dark when played at the correct gamma settings (as determined by the gamma calibration provided by the game itself). There are passageways where, played at the correct gamma on a decent screen, you can sometimes bump into things on the floor because you can barely see them. Some of Skyrim's dungeons suffered from a similar problem.

Is that atmospheric in some way? No, not really, unless ESO is intended as slapstick. It's ridiculous.

So, for the bit ZOS is responsible for, there are really two options:

    1. Increase the ambient lighting in all parts of the game, which would be a shame and kill a lot of the atmosphere.

    2. Provide a more consistent means for players to light the world as desired. Which would also be truer to real life. My character isn't, the way I see it, mad. They're not going to walk into a totally dark deathtrap without a light source.

Almalexia's has always been useful for this. But ideally it would be on a toggle not a very short timer. It would also be lovely to have an easily available other option that provides warmer light. Because Almalexia's can make some beautiful environments look like the strip-lit supermarkets of yore.

Yeah, I like the lantern on a belt idea too. If you're a nightblade... problem solved. Just get yourself a 1H weapon or two and slot Grim Focus.

I'm actually kinda curious how much light the Ghost Lantern provides now? Or the Dwemervamidium Mirage (which has a long duration)?

The treasure hunter torch could be made brighter. I love the idea of a hip lantern too. Also I still want a new clothing slot for a backpack (not just on costumes but one that can be incorporated into any outfit) with different themes, there could be an adventurer backpack with a lantern.

There's a memento, almalexia's something, you get it from Deshaan. It's basically like candle light, from TES 5. i use that.

Almalexia's memento is really good to light areas
That's what I use, e.g. in the Lightless Oubliette in Coldharbour, although I still don't understand why ZOS nerfed its duration from about 33 seconds to 22 seconds.

I don't know why its duration was nerfed, but it would be interesting to know when they did that-- in particular, was it before or after the Greymoor chapter's release and the introduction of Antiquities? The cooldown for the Antiquarian Eye is shared with the cooldown for Almalexia's Magic Lantern, so if you accidentally activate Almalexia's Magic Lantern when you had meant to activate the Antiquarian Eye then you must wait for Almalexia's Magic Lantern to go out before you can use the Antiquarian Eye, so I'm wondering if they shortened the duration to help decrease the length of time you need to wait? It would be better still to let each of those tools have their own durations and cooldowns, but as long as they share their cooldown then nerfing the duration of the original cooldown by about 33% is a somewhat reasonable alternative-- far from perfect, but at least it was shortened by only a third.

you can only have 1 active memento/tool active at a time, so all mementos/tools are put on the cooldown of the one you used

if you used the saturnalia tree you couldnt use any other memento or tool for 3 solid minutes
