What? We've had some absolute bangers.

Arcane, The Last of Us, Dungeons and Dragons....all fantastic.

The last of us was not a banger...too much of making Joel pathetic.

Arcane was excellent, dungeons and dragons was very fun and did a good job capturing the spirit of d&d.

These are outliers, though. Wheel of time: trash. Rings of power: trash. Halo: trash. Resident evil tv show: trash. Shadow and bone: trash. Essentially every marvel movie and show (minus 1 or 2) since endgame: trash. Almost every single star wars project since mandalorian s2: trash.

There are others I can't think of off the top of my head, but it is undeniable that writers and producers often actively hate the source material of these adaptations. THEY FREELY TALK ABOUT IT IN INTERVIEWS.

Definitely strongly disagree about TLOU. Joel was the baddest dude there, as he should have been. Most of the best action stuff came from him. He is a bit more vulnerable than the games and it could have used some more clicker scenes though, I'll give you that. Still. I found it Emmy worthy and I hope it gets all the awards. 12 Emmy nominations for a video game property, never thought I'd see it.

A lot of those are novels/comics though. When it comes to the video games, it does feel like these are being taken a bit more careful with these days. Sonic, Detective Pikachu, and Mario were all decent. I mean they aren't the caliber of the stuff I mentioned earlier, but they were fun for kids stuff. Yeah, Halo wasn't good, or at least so I have heard. Didn't watch. Witcher started out promising and then fell off. Resident Evil TV show also trash.

Cyberpunk was pretty good though! I also haven't watched Dragon's Dogma or Castlevania, but I have heard the latter is pretty good.

Overall, these past few years have finally felt like we're getting stuff with good budgets, mostly made by people who actually enjoy the source material. Some of them even have creators of the source material helping it out.

I actually find myself cautiously optimistic for the Fallout series. I guess how that one goes would give us the best idea of how an Elder Scrolls series would do.

Edit: Here's the trailer for that.

I think JJ Abrams, Sam Esmail or Guillermo Del Toro would be good to work on it. They need a lot of people with game knowledge though (unless they all are secretly players of ESO).

Not J.J.Abrams please. He ruined both Star Wars and Star Trek.

I really enjoyed his Star Trek films so matter of opinion.

True, but as someone who’s been around since the first Star Trek TV series the reboot totally wrecked decades of canon.

It just seems presumptuous to take other people’s previous work in the history and throw it in the trashcan.

It entirely depends on who is making the show. If you can't look at super Mario and it's success and then compare what did and didn't get injected into the movie and how it had source material integrity, idk what else to say.
Most shows these days completely dump all over the source material. Witcher is a prime example of this.
I've said my piece on this in several comments so I'm not likely to reply anymore regarding this.

I agree. I too watched the first ST series in the mid 60s. Everything after just ruined the "lore" for me. Sad.

I would love this if it explored the myriad of lore stories and histories that we read about in game. I would hate it if they utilized a player character story line as it would ruin any head cannon around your own experience as the player. I'd be totally down to watch a movie about the Alessian Rebellion, for example. I also like the elves better if they look like ESO elves and not humans with elf ears. They're so alien that a Tolkienesque elf would ruin it. They would need actors with full size contacts to cover the sclera and have prosthetics to reshape faces slightly. And yes, we would need full CGI Khajiit and Argonian faces.
