Skills randomly not activating from queue

When I attack the training dummy and spam any skill, it will randomly not fire.



3.7s Power Slam HIT
4.7s Power Slam HIT
5.7s Power Slam ?????
6.7s Power Slam HIT
7.7s Power Slam HIT

My internet is good. I have 100ms ping to the server and stable ping to Cloudflare DNS.



Does anyone else have the same issue?

I restarted ESO, tried a different skill, and still have the same issue.

I can reproduce this just by spamming Resolving Vigor. So it's not specific to attack skills.

I've turned Addons OFF and the issue still happens.

I just think its normal, you see the ability button light up and nothing. /shrug

Yeah happens to me on console all the time. I don't have many ways of checking on my combat in that sort of detail, but my abilities definitely light up on the bar sometimes but don't actually happen.

So do mine on PC (both NA and EU) - and I have to attribute it in my case to satellite mega-ping.

It happens and it is incredibly frustrating at times. I first noticed it with winter’s revenge, but maybe it was fault of my own for having the aoe double tap thing on. But now it happens with taunt.. and that is a problem. See ability go off, whether inner rage or frost clench… yet it doesn’t taunt.

With a gaming mouse, I have experimented with the poll rate to reduce this skill lag or no skill when called for. With the poll at 1000hz I seem to have this issue more often.

Delayed or failing skills, bar swaps and ridiculous lag are an everyday occurrence for me, and many more like me in Australia. No interference from addons on console but we still have the problems.

I use mobile connection. (Fiber is at the edge of plot, still some digging to be done.) For me, skills and actions in this gaem sometimes happen when I press the assigned key. And when it does not happen, I just have to press the key again until it happens or its too late. I guess it's the way how this game handles input. Other games handle queueing input gracefully, flushing the queue only if required for input to make sense (like dodge would flush queue), this game just eats it.

This has been an issue of mine since 2015. This issue really comes into light in PvP. Press a potion? You hear sound and it never went off. Ults too. You only see 3 seconds of skill being greyed out without actually firing as well. I could blame this on 200ms because Asia/Pacific/Oceanic zone. But I've had this issue when I was in US too. So... yeah.

I started to notice this problem when I play on BG after the release of update 40. I keep the enemy targeted, press a skill and nothing happens, I have to spam the skill for it to work. The same thing with the bar swap. To be honest, I thought that the problem was with my keyboard and mouse (the bar change is assigned to the additional mouse button), but apparently the problem is in the game. My ping is 60-80, EU server.

Is older than u40. I've seen streamers talk about it. It's a old issue. Things sometimes just don't fire.

I've long had this problem, on both PS4 and PS5, across multiple ISPs. Seems like a problem with the game. I could throw up a parse to see if I can document the issue.

Skara, from your testing can you tell if it's consistent? I.e., is it every x cast or does it seem random?

I just tested the following.

Resolving Vigor

• 7th consecutive cast did not fire
• 6th consecutive cast did not fire
• 7th consecutive cast did not fire

Power Slam

• 6th consecutive cast did not fire
• 6th consecutive cast did not fire
• 5th consecutive cast did not fire

Pierce Armor

• 5th consecutive cast did not fire
• 41st consecutive cast did not fire (impressive!)
• 6th consecutive cast did not fire

Twilight Matriarch

• 8 consecutive casts fired successfully
• 8 consecutive casts fired successfully
• 6th consecutive cast did not fire
• 8 consecutive casts fired successfully
• 5th consecutive cast did not fire
• 8 consecutive casts fired successfully
• 7th consecutive cast did not fire
• 7th consecutive cast did not fire
• 8 consecutive casts fired successfully

So mostly around the 5th to 7th consecutive cast.

Now in your title you say "from queue" so am I to understand that in your testing you're pressing the buttons too fast on purpose?

I only ask that to ask this... Do you ever notice skills not firing when you press them exactly 1 second apart?

Because again, on console, it doesn't seem to me to be so much about lag (although that is certainly it's own can of worms,) but when I'm in those heated moments probably pressing buttons too quickly.

And I'm not at all critiquing your testing methods so much as wondering if I'm right about how I can fix my own problem. Because I just try to slow down a little.

Also-- not so much in your testing, which is probably in a parse scenario, but in real action-- I wonder what effect animation canceling might have on queued skills. Might it sometimes clip the wrong animation? Cancel out queues entirely? Like if I tend to cancel Vigor with a barswap-- but Vigor was queued and has to wait-- might my barswap not just cancel Vigor entirely then? I think this may also be the case.

Edited to add: I just went back to the top and saw you had some timestamps all 1 second apart. So, sorry for missing that. But I do think I saw something a while back about skills queing to happen next even if you go faster than the cooldown. Is this even correct, or has my brain took a walk on me and I'm just lost? Ha! Sorry to have to ask that, I'm suddenly full of doubt.

mine does that too sometimes. Sometimes my stuff just won't fire and I need to click it again. Definitely in PVP but also in PVE/on the dummy ... it sucks but I haven't found a fix yet.
