Vateshran 2h not building stacks

Hello all,

I've noticed that the Vateshran 2h set for some reason, every now and again, simply won't build the stacks at all while Momentum (and both of its Morphs) are active. That means no damage and no proc.

The only pattern I can find is that if you activate Momentum outside of combat, then you won't build stacks in combat. You have to activate Momentum while currently in combat to get Vateshran to work. Even then it occasionally doesn't work either (although it usually does, like 90% of the time). Still, Frenzied Momentum won't work at all if you pop it outside of combat.

You do have to cast Momentum in combat for the set to activate properly, yes. The tooltip is not clear on this point and should be updated: “While Momentum is active after you cast it in combat, casting a Stamina ability…”

Is it still bugged so that you can continue to gain stacks for 40 seconds after casting Momentum and Rally, even though those forms only last 20?

I do not recall this ever being the case. I have used this weapon a ton, and it always worked exactly how the tooltip stated. It is fairly recent that this is not the case.

When I tested the bug mentioned above back in September of last year, it was the case for me that I needed to be in combat before casting Momentum to get the stacks. Otherwise I could not get stacks at all.

Don't take this the wrong way as I do not mean to be rude, but that just tells me that the bug has been around for a year. With all due respect to the developers, bugs like sometimes last years.

One notorious example were one the Passives in the NB skills called "Magicka Flood" which increased the NB's Magicka by 8% if a Siphoning ability was slotted on that bar. Sometimes it would grant it on the opposite bar, other times it wouldn't grant it at all. In fact I think it might still be broken... I'll have to check.

Yes, there are plenty of bugs in game, for sure.

In this case, though, the developers have established a pattern recently (the past couple years) of changing or designing sets and skills not to be able to proc unless in combat. They even did that with Arcanist’s crux after release. The behavior of Frenzied Momentum fits in with that pattern, so I do not think that’s necessarily a bug. I think it more likely that the wording is not the most accurate, which is also not uncommon.

I hope the devs look into this and fix whatever’s the issue, since I agree that the function of the set is not matching its tooltip with the current wording.

    • Frenzied Momentum and Spectral Cloak: These sets will now only apply their effects if you cast their respective ability requirements while in combat.
We protested on the PTS but the change went through anyways.

That is such an odd change...

So I have to cast Rally in combat... Just to proceed to cast Stamina abilities in combat.

I appreciate the info, but that is just plain strange lol

Thanks for this! It is nice to have confirmation that it was intended, although the change had already happened by last September, as previous threads show. It seems they were merely acknowledging it in Update 38.

Frenzied Momentum may have been bugged before Update 38 but BRP DW (Spectral Cloak) was not. I track every buff on my Stam Sorc in PvP with an addon and use Quick Cloak every single day, probably 100+ times a day or more.

Yes, I remember you pointing out as soon as Necrom hit PTS that Spectral Cloak had joined the "only in combat" club - and also had the bug where you could continue to get the effect even out of combat as long as you didn't let Cloak expire. I'm sure you're right that the BRP DW change did come with Necrom. I was meaning Frenzied Momentum, which I believe got this change much earlier but which was for some reason left out of the patch notes until U38.
