Post-nerf Basalt Warrior is better just on paper

I am comparing it with my current build. On paper, numbers are better.

If it's played as it should be, the results are on par, slightly better. Effectively better given that you can switch weapon and activate a Potentates.

But this is just on paper.

1. You have to constantly watch the timer and re-cast one Earthen Heart ability in due time, otherwise you lose ultimate. You need a distributive attention, to both Magma/Corrosive and Molten Stance. There is more information swapping on the screen, more tiresome to use.

2. It entices you to weapon swap to a Potentates, and while it's good in theory, you lose time, time that could be otherwise used to be in the action.

It's overall far more stressful than its current alternative which has an easier rotation, less time to lose and needs less information awareness.

I agree. And as is, it's just another Drake's Rush without cooldown but with more hassle for proc condition.

Drake's Rush would be fine but the cooldown makes it undesirable.

Post-nerf Basalt isn't even worth the time to farm out in EA.

Yup. Grinded out the entire Necro set because it looked great on paper and it does a grand total of nothing. When pit against a DoT DK, they cleaved right through that set.

Anyone that looks at Basalt-Blooded or Nobility In Decay, the two “tank sets,” next to Daedric Trickery, will pick Trickery all day, and what’s sad, is that you can just craft it.

Meh. I'm hearing three different things here. One that says the set is worthless, one that says it's probably just barely the best if you manage it properly, and one that says it's 2nd best to Daedric Trickery.

And this is worth complaining about?

Amusing that when it was first announced it was largely complained about for how strong it is. What do you people want exactly?

A bit off topic maybe but I'm reminded of another conversation where it was asked what happened to build diversity and why theorycrafting was dead. In the context of this discussion my hypothesis remains the same as it was there: build diversity and theorycrafting are wrecked because of the proliferation of information. People hop on the PTS and make pie charts for every little thing and anything that's strongest needs nerfed and anything that's not is deemed trash. All before it hits live.

Digressing from my tangent now... The thing that bothers ME about the DK set has nothing to do with its strength but more to do with what it attempts to be strong in. Ulti generation and increased healing? Oh great. How original.

We want people to wear this instead of Daedric Trickery, is that it? I really fail to see how that would change anything at all.

A rose by any other name would still be a rose... Or however the quote goes.

Drake's Rush would be fine but the cooldown makes it undesirable.

And with Basalt, you do get the cooldown in form of Major Heroism buff going away when you barswap and when you barswap back, counter will actually glitch out if you don't happen to swap back right before the tick of ult gen happens. And divines forbid if you cast Earthen Heart ability twice (mostly because bars not swapping in PvP combat zone, a good ole issue), that will also glitch out Major Heroism more than half the time to not get benefit until you wait 1.5 or 3 seconds and barswap back. At least with Drake's Rush, you get a guaranteed proc that you won't be glitched out of. And you bring that same buff to the group.

As is, this set offers far less than Trickery. And as ZOS said 'future' incremental patch, it could be the next patch or never. So... yeah.
