I really didnt understand why on earth they changed it so your starter toon was morphed directly into the city hub for the area instead of the nicer starter zone during beta. The quests led you to the higher level city in a streamlined way so that you were ready for it by the time you got there.

but yah, i agree with you but it wont help... its just how gaming is nowadays, all rush and immediate impulse gratification and then onto the next big release......

I didn't even realize people were having a problem being under leveled. I've enjoyed seeking out quests so much that I often find that I am actually over leveled for the quests available to me but am reluctant to skip them and go ahead to a more level appropriate zone.

I call BS. Twice now on two characters I found myself 2-3 levels behind the quests available to me and I do EVERYTHING. I shouldn't have to mindlessly grind mobs for several hours to stay in the level range for my quests. Kindly take your advice and stuff it. There is a real problem with not enough xp given for quests and mobs.

So there really are people who are underleveled? Though that was a joke? Just doing quests and running available dungeons ONCE, without doing any PvP, has an ability to literally catapult your level..

I'm ALWAYS so high level that my quests are green or even gray.. I've entered Alik'r (31-37 zone) as 35, right not I'm somewhere in 2/5 of it and I'm almost 38 already... by the time I finish questing there I bet I'll be 40 to 41 at least. And the exact same thing happens in every zone.

    My typical new zone routine
    1) explore the zone grabbing as many discoveries, wayshrines, skyshards, nodes and quests as possible, killing everything in my path that wont kill me first. Even the rabbits.
    2) go through every public dungeon, grab skyshard and kill boss.
    3) complete as many world bosses/anchors as possible at the current level. Come back later if too hard or undergrouped.
    4) quest. Quest. Quest (oh sweet! Rewards!) Quest.
    5) complete "delves"/group dungeons.
    6) next area.

On my first toon, I did a lot of dungeons & such (lvled as a pure healer, so yeah...he did the main quests to get skill points, & found the skyshards but that was about it).

My second toon, I've quested and have never even come close to being under lvled. She's never been in an instanced dungeon, and only done the tutorial PvP quests to get the 2 skill points, but she's been though every delve & every public dungeon. Every group boss & dolmen has been completed & every exploration point found. She entered Reapers March (37-43 or so) at lvl 42, entered Coldharbor at lvl 48, and hit lvl 50 about 1/5th of the way through coldharbor (hell, she's still in coldharbor and is almost 1/4th of the way through vet 1). The only annoying thing I've encountered with her, is that it's a pain to get soul gems (i.e. I hit lvl 50 in coldharbor, but none of the mobs in the area I was in at the time were higher than like lvl 46...I've now made it to the point where mobs are lvl 49 & some bosses give grand soul gems now, but for 1/2 the zone I had no soul gems.)

I call this BS because I tried to make through quests without killing any unnecessary mobs, without exploration gear, without any kind of xp boosts and still had overleveled character. I just completed every quest, dungeon, world boss etc. I bet if i could get a chance to play one of your chars I will find out that you haven't done everything. Most people really miss a lot of things and come here and cry that they have done everything. One of those people was one of my guildies and when we ran through what he have done we found that he was missing about 20-30% of game and that was a reason he was underleveled. The thing that you have zones achievements doesn't mean you have done 100% in that zone. Most of the zones have a lot of sidequests and those are sometimes way of the regular questing path.

I try only doing quests on my level, starting with the lowest one. Despite this and without grinding, I always find myself looking at quests lower level than I am. Note that I am only partway through shadowfen on my highest char but already have several quests below my level. Popping my head into cyrodiil? Pretty much messes it up, but even on chars I do not pvp with this happens. I expect this to be the case all the way up to 50.

Then you didn't do "everything". If you actually do "everything" you will out level the quests, and a lot will turn grey before you get around to them.

Level 1-50: I didn't have to do all the quests in each zone, maybe 1/2 -> 3/4 of them should be ok. I skipped a large amounts of the side quests....and hit VR 1 easy.

VR 1-10 pre-craglorn: pretty much, I had to do every single quest, boss, and solo dungeon in every zone + grind mobs to reach VR 10. Man that was a painful slog....ugh.

VR 1-12 Craglorn patch: hit VR 1, go to Craglorn, and profit. From what I can tell, if you grinds with the zergs or small dungeon parties you should hit cap in 1/10th the time it would take questing. Best part is...you can watch TV while doing so and watch the exp fly! And here I went through hundreds of hours of awful questing. DOH!

I am having no problem staying within level except for the guild quests, It seems I always start the next zone 1-2 below the next level of Mage/Fighter.

I have no problem completing them, but am I getting anything MORE for completing any quest under-level?

I thought the maximum for NO XP is 5 levels lower than character. Is there MORE experience or RNG loot for killing/completing above-level quest/mob?

Just a quick, big THANK YOU to the author, and a hearty thank you to those who commented with Actual Helpful Advice (I am only at Lvl 15, so it's best to learn now, not later.) Best bite of snarkism I've consumed in a while! The part about the player bots running around made me GOL (giggle out loud.)

I am 22.8 now and finished every quest on the first 3 zones. Means everything is now white colored on the map. Bosses, Dungeons, Places, Dolmen. The next Quest in my Questlog is 24.

There is only one thing i did not do, i did not do the Groupdungeon in the second zone.

I have the achivements for the Quests, and for the Skyshards.

There arent enough quests, to just level with quests. Sure i could grind, i but i hate grinding with a passion. Even after playing Everquest 1 for 7 years (or maybe because).

Forcing players to grind is just bad design - thats my opinion.

I'm going to have to totally disagree with you on this.

I started an alt on the AD side and have finished about 1/4 of Malabal Tor. I'm level 36, already. At this pace, I'll be low to mid 40's before I even get to Reaper's March and will hit 50 well before Coldharbour.

I haven't done any grinding on my alt and even try to run around mobs so I don't waste time fighting trash. I have done all the dungeons, delves, and dolmens in each zone. I've only done everything once. There is more than enough content in each zone to outlevel everything.

I started my main the day of early release and had to skip the entire zone of Greenshade because the zone wasn't stable. I still hit 50 well before I finished Coldharbour.

Turning everything white does not mean you did every quest. There are lots of quests that don't turn the map white and lots of things that turn white without requiring a quest. Go to the Achievements part of you Journal. There is a quest section. Look in there for quest completion. There will be stuff like "Complete 68 Quests in Glenumbra". If that is at 60/68, you missed 8 quests. Probably more like 12 quests because you get some leeway with those achievements. There are a few more quests in each zone than are needed for the achievement.

Way more than that actually. They significantly lowered the number of quests needed to complete the Hero achievements. So using your example, Glenumbra now only requires you to complete 53 quests. In actuality, there are 67 (I'm an OCD completionist and I counted). If you only do up to that achievement, you still missed 14 quests.

Thank you, OP. Could not agree with everything you said more.

Not once was I ever below level whilst going through 1 - 50. Explore! Find all the quests. Do your dark anchors. Do all the dungeons. World bosses. Find all the locales. Even treasure chests help with levelling.
