Shouldn't you be lobbying MS if you want ESO exempt from MS's Game Pass charge?

this would be the best course of action.

Since the logical move if crossplay happened would be to remove PC's ability to use addons, I'm not now nor will I ever be in favor of crossplay with consoles.

That actually would be the least logical move to disable all mods on PC after having them this long.
They’re just hurting themselves and the game by not making a free to play push on all platforms to increase player counts.

Aren't bots already a problem on consoles? Do you want to know how much worse it will be if this went free to play?

You can’t play ESO on console without a PSN or Xbox live subscription.

And the only bots on console are farming resource nodes in starter zones.

Bot farming on console is far worse than just farming resources in starter zones. They are rampant in every base game zone. From clusters of sorcs with pets killing mudcrabs, bears, wolves, senches 24/7 to bot trains running programmed paths around the zones, killing and harvesting everything in their path. I've seen bots in public dungeons like Lion's den in The Rift, running around the dungeon, avoiding the mobs and harvesting everything. To my knowledge, these kind of programmed bot activities can only be done on a PC running a console emulator in order to set paths and move the bot trains in coordination.

As for crossplay, it would ruin the console economy, especially guild traders, since there are only 5-6 traders per town. There is already competition for the trader spots. How would that work out if the number of guilds competing for a trader just doubled (if NA and EU servers crossed) or tripled (if all 3 NA systems merged. The same for EU.) Or 6X increase if ALL 6 servers crossed) There aren't enough traders to go around and since gold is far more readily available on PC, console guilds wouldn't stand a chance at getting a trader, ever again.

If those kinds of bot activities can only be done on a PC running a console emulator, it’s funny how they’ve not totally taken over PCs when an ESO CD key can be bought for $5 or recently downloaded for free from Epic Games. The base game being free or not is not a gateway against bots. Actually policing the game and banning them regularly occurs a lot more on PC and that’s why it’s less of a problem on PC. The developers and game masters play on PC.

Crossplay would not ruin the economy. Xbox and PlayStation have very similar economies right now, and both are starting to die because of the lack of end-game buyers. There are at least 197 traders currently available to rent in the game, and that far exceeds the number of populated guilds. Crossplay with PC as well would definitely increase the price of everything, but console guilds would merge with PC guilds, or they would buy traders outside of the three major cities until they could compete for top trader spots.

Right now, with every platform and both the NA and EU bases combined, the number of active players would not exceed the number of players during the past peak years on just PC or PlayStation. If the game worked then it would work now with the same number of active players.

No because that’s not the point of this post at all. Free to play defined for Xbox and PlayStation for example is you’re not required to pay a subscription to Microsoft or Sony to be able to play one of your games you own.

ESO has their own servers, thus they should at least talk to their new owners Microsoft and say hey, we want our game to be free to play so they can play our game without needing to pay your Xbox live service fee.

Like destiny does and several other popular games on console. Google Xbox games you can play without Xbox live and you will get more understanding on the purpose of this topic.

I did just as you asked, and the issue here is one of definitions.

You believe that "free to play" is defined by not requiring PS+ or XBL Gold to play, but that's not fully accurate. The entire list of games I found from a quick google search are Free to Play by everyone's definition, not just XBL and PS+ users as they currently have no entry fee. While Destiny 2 once had an entry fee, it curtailed that. The most popular games on this list all share that trait: Apex, Warzone, Dauntless, DCUO, Dauntless, Fortnite, PSO2, SMITE and so on.

ESO doesn't have that trait because you normally have to pay either for the base game or gamepass to play it. Sure, it sucks that you have to pay Microsoft to pay and use their servers to play a multiplayer game, but that's not on ZoS, that's been Microsoft's MO since Xbox started and changing it just for ESO is possibly a can of worms they don't want to open.

So why would that be a can of worms they would possibly not want to open? Since ZoS is owned by Microsoft.

This kind just puts out a good point here. That being is crossplay is impossible, crosssave is impossible, and making it f2p from Xbox live and PS+ sub service is impossible.

There are quite a lot of big modernization requests being made across the community even from other players, and all are getting the same instant sharp reaction: It won’t work, it’s impossible!

Which is indeed correct because there is no effort to try. It’s easier to just argue all the reasons why it will be too hard. That right there is just a formula for failure. When there’s more effort into arguing why it’s too hard or can’t happen than there is effort in saying let’s try, or let’s try something.

    Crossplay
    Cross save
    Paid account transfer (Xbox/ps/pc)
Free to play (no PSN+/Xbox live sub required to play, but must own game obviously)

So far, ZOS has not indicated any interest in doing any of that. Hard to say if they ever will.
