Xbox - Free to Play AT LEAST Since no crossplay

I wish ESO would at least do free to play like destiny 2 does. Currently you have to pay for Xbox live AND eso+ on top of that.

ESO Still has not yet implemented crossplay or cross save and there’s no way I’m going to start all over on PC achievement wise, crown purchase wise, basically everything I collected over the years. But I’m very conflicted with having to pay ESO+ and Xbox live.

Since it seems like crossplay and cross save being the most asked for feature that never goes away is just being pushed off and probably won’t happen (what a shame, crippling the community and keeping the numbers dwindling on old MMO concepts) at least work something out doesn’t Microsoft own y’all? I’m sure if Bungie could make it happen some how you guys could too. Or reduce ESO+ by 9.99 a month for Xbox.

Is that an impossible ask like crossplay/cross save seems to be? Or heck account transfers from console to Pc?

They’re just hurting themselves and the game by not making a free to play push on all platforms to increase player counts.

If Destiny hadn’t gone free to play and added Crossplay a couple years ago then the player base probably would have died. ESO is on track to do the same.

On Xbox ESO already almost is free to play. With the recent addition of GamePass Core tier, which is the minimum you always need to be able to play online any other game, they included ESO in the 36 games of the list, for the price of 60$/year or less if found on sale.
Gamepass Core is what gives access to online gaming, so it's a must for Xbox players. Since you already pay it you are basically not paying anything for ESO. True - ESOPlus is not included but I think it's quite fair.

I would keep indefinitely ESO in the GamePass Core subscription, seems a good move for them.
With that said, in an interview Zos said that cross play is not possible at the moment but that they are thinking about implementing cross progression - not the best of the best, but still would definitely be something positive.

Edit: also, the base game is periodically dirt cheap, not that it would be a huge barrier of entry...

    1. ESO going free to play would be a two-handed maul in the face to veteran players that coughed up $$$ for the base game in it's infancy.
    2. Crossplay is something that is "near" impossible to pull off, specifically to a game that operates on a megaserver, let alone multiple megaservers like eso, and is usually something that has to be baked into a game before actually coming out entirely (small examples of crossplay include outriders, no man's sky, etc. also welcome to be wrong.)
    3. Cross save is something that may be somewhat easier but it would also be a matter of using/allowing certain proverbial account credentials like Sony, Microsoft, Steam, etc. across multiple platforms/consoles in eso, and it would most certainly require quite a load of work, but that is also something that is almost very unlikely to happen unless they are talkin septims.

A smarter approach for the xbox forefront would be to merge ESO+ into Gamepass Ultimate, wouldn't be hard considering most of Zeni's revenue in ESO comes from crown purchases and DLC chapter purchases for that year before being converted into a crown store purchasable amongst other things.
They’re just hurting themselves and the game by not making a free to play push on all platforms to increase player counts.

If Destiny hadn’t gone free to play and added Crossplay a couple years ago then the player base probably would have died. ESO is on track to do the same.

The reason for that is because of bungies breakoff from activision and then later being bought out by sony. Which also highlights the first point made above.
If you see me anywhere. Know that I am sitting back with a bag of popcorn, watching as ESO burns the goodwill of its player base with practices that only disrespects the players time like it did to me and many others...

If a game does not respect your time, best thing to do is move on from it and find something else.

destiny 2 still requires ps plus/xbox live for the matchmaking activities like gambit and crucible.
    1. ESO going free to play would be a two-handed maul in the face to veteran players that coughed up $$$ for the base game in it's infancy.

that reminds me of the people that get angry at the possibility of student loan forgiveness because they paid for it.
i believe it's awesome if people don't have to pay for ps plus or xbox live anymore or base game.

and the base game is €20 regularly but 7 or 8 on sale so it is quite cheap already.
if zos can afford to make it free and not require ps plus or xbox live anymore that would be awesome.

especially since both subscriptions got more expensive recently.

ESO still uses console VOIP because the console versions have native voice chat so realistically there has to be a cost. The devs can either do one of three things:
    1) let sony and microsoft charge the player (which is what is currently being done)
    2) absorb the cost themselves
    3) cut a deal with the platform holders to let and players to use the services for free and in exchange they'll put more microtransactions and the cut that Sony and Microsoft takes of purchases on their storefront would more than make up for it. (This is what F2P games like Genshin or Warzone do).
Just paying for gold/gamepass/PS + is probably the best outcome tbh

going purely free to play with no barrier of entry is just asking for the game to be overrun with RMT spammers

we already got a taste of that when epic store did a free eso giveaway and then weeks afterwards we were plagued by RMT spammers which we hadnt seen since game launch

likely this was also something that played into the whole crown store gifting fiasco too

There are many open threads (one on the front page) that are discussing cross play. And there have been numerous explanations as to why it is not possible.

You don’t have to pay for ESO+. You can play without it.

Free to play is a bad idea.Look at what happened on PC when Epic was free basegame to keep for all for a week.Botters and gold sellers went rampant, and as soon as one was gone more popped up.Maybe you should ask console companies to lower or remove their access fees instead, seeing you pay internet, then console fees, then other game stuff. If you mean full acces too all of the game, won't hapen,or microtransactions would be worse and higher priced. You don't need plus, buy DLCs and chapters as they on sale, and no + really needed, except craftbag, lol.

I don’t think crossplay is a good idea but the ability to transfer from console to PC would be nice. PC to console probably not. Addons make PC a whole different game.
Also consoles requiring a subscription to play online games is awful and part of why I am not a console gamer.

Content creators want to make money just like anyone else and the biggest reason they stop making content for a game is because of the lack of interest of players for the game. There’s no ad revenue in spending the time making content for a game that gets you 5,000 views when another game will get 50,000+.

I’ve been playing since 2016 and these last few months is the lowest active players I’ve seen on PlayStation NA.

Lol literally everyone took free to play absolutely wrong. When I said free to play it means you can play ESO on xbox/psn without having to pay for xbox live service just to play. That’s 9.99+14.99 eso+ Some people are like it’s part of game pass blah blah so it technically is free. No, literally would not be paying for game pass period otherwise. I play all other games on PC which doesn’t need a sub to play online.

If they allowed cross play, paid account transfer, cross save this wouldn’t be an issue. It’s also not an impossible task as others have pointed it out to be. It would not be that difficult, specially with big daddy microsoft, which bought out ZOS, which also tries to take the lead with making games cross play available. They have the recourses it’s time to get rid of this antiquated MMO structure before the game truly just dies and bring everyone together.

Have you tried Microsoft Rewards? You can earn points eg by searching on The Edge app, or by getting achievements on games. The points can be used to pay for the new Xbox game pass core so it'll take a small amount of time a day surfing etc to get game pass for 'free'.

And the only bots on console are farming resource nodes in starter zones.

Bot farming on console is far worse than just farming resources in starter zones. They are rampant in every base game zone. From clusters of sorcs with pets killing mudcrabs, bears, wolves, senches 24/7 to bot trains running programmed paths around the zones, killing and harvesting everything in their path. I've seen bots in public dungeons like Lion's den in The Rift, running around the dungeon, avoiding the mobs and harvesting everything. To my knowledge, these kind of programmed bot activities can only be done on a PC running a console emulator in order to set paths and move the bot trains in coordination.

As for crossplay, it would ruin the console economy, especially guild traders, since there are only 5-6 traders per town. There is already competition for the trader spots. How would that work out if the number of guilds competing for a trader just doubled (if NA and EU servers crossed) or tripled (if all 3 NA systems merged. The same for EU.) Or 6X increase if ALL 6 servers crossed) There aren't enough traders to go around and since gold is far more readily available on PC, console guilds wouldn't stand a chance at getting a trader, ever again.

All the dates on posts in this topic are month then 2 digit day (except the most recent ones which show the time of day). So the topic was started on the 18th October - 6 days ago, and the most recent post before today was yesterday, the 22nd.
