"Page not found" error accessing moved posts

So right now whenever I try and look at a post that has been moved by the mods I get a "Page not found" error. It just started and seems to be true for all the moved posts on the General DIscussion page.

If I go to the place the content was moved to I can see it just fine. It seems it's just the link that broken.

I can confirm this forum bug, which appeared today. Perhaps someone jumped the gun on "fixing" the forum?

The issue is with redirect links when you look at the address of "not found page" you will see: basic forum url/denied:basic forum url again/thread stuff, if you delete the "denied" and duplicate basic forum url it finds the thread correctly.

The same issue happened with the survey with "click here" link - it added "denied:" in front ofthe url resulting in invalid url address.

Speaking of forum issues I also have had for the past week on my main PC issue with forum rendering, whole chunks of pages just flat out disappear when I move the mouse cursor to the tab bar (for example to close the tab)

A radical solution but perhaps the best choice for the future.

Same here, saw this post title, then tried a moved post and got the same response. It only started today for me as well; it redirected properly for me yesterday. The work around seems simple, but shouldn't be needed.

No thanks. I've done the research and many other forum softwares are way more harder to use, has way more bugs, is more expensive, and are too much like social media. Vanilla is one of the best ranked forum softwares out there. Also forum software changes are very expensive, time consuming, and are very hard to do.

I don't blame the software for this bug. No forum software is perfect. The developers of the forum software will fix the bug. Also someone on the backend of the eso forums most likely made a silly mistake. This bug can easily be undone and fixed.

I'd suggest it might be the way the posts were moved - seems that posts that have been moved by ZOS_Hadeostry have this issue.

I don't recall seeing that name before and they may be doing something different when moving the posts that is causing this.

@ZOS_Hadeostry did nothing wrong. The moderators are awesome at their jobs. I respect and honor the moderators. They are friendly and hard working. If they make a silly mistake then forgive them. They deserve kindness too.👍

I'm very grateful for the moderators on the forums. 😀

Thanks for letting us know. As mentioned by Trejgon, some of the moves we did recently are adding a "https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/denied:" to the beginning of the URL. You can delete that or go to the various forums to find the ones that were moved.

This has been reported through the appropriate channels and is being investigated. We thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

I cannot see deleting a part of an URL as a solution, how about the vast majority (assumed) that do not know how to do this kind of forum-fu? What are their options? I would suggest rolling back this rather misguided "fix" as the forum software is not capable of these kind of alterations?

Moved threads are showing up like this in the url.

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/denied:https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/644084/lfg-is-crazy-toxic-why#latest

    How to remove error:
Click on the url bar at the top of the web browser(on mobile click on edit url--depends on browser) where the url is and highlight the
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/denied:

part and then press the delete key. On mobile hit the backspace key on keyboard.

The url should look like this as a result.

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/644084/lfg-is-crazy-toxic-why#latest

Then hit enter. No error. I did what was instructed and the actual post showed up.

Also the forum team is aware of this bug so they reported it to the appropriate team and they are currently working on a fix. It takes time to find out what is causing the bug, editing the code, and then running tests. Once a solution is found without problems then it is applied and fixed.

They may have to get Vannilla to fix it as the software is maintained by them, ZOS leases the service.

Yep. Every time something goes south with the forums, it stays that way until vanilla pushes out another update - so the last one (the inability to stay logged in here) took almost 3 months to fix....

I doubt it's going to happen real fast. So for now, I'd suggest NO threads get moved until it IS fixed.

In addition to what was said above, links by mods via here also don't work:
    g27uocrj4lc0.png

In this case you only need to delete the denied: part at the beginning of the url:
    rufof97t0pba.png

Not the best solution but a workaround atm

I expect that this is some URL protection setting that has gone rogue, either due to a bug or some misconfiguration. The forums are hosted by Vanilla, in addition to using their software, so some change there could easily account for this.

What surprises me is that it isn't fixed already.

Thank you for the acknowledgment! I hope it gets fixed soon.

In the meantime, since this is clearly an issue affecting many moved posts in addition to certain other links (like Kevin’s survey link), I’d like to second the request that we pause moving new threads until whatever's going on is fixed. I understand how to do the workaround, but it takes additional time and is particularly onerous on mobile to remove the denied: bit that shouldn't be there so we can access content. Moving threads already discourages me from reading them, between the Moved, the Closed tag, and the lock sign, but if it looks particularly interesting I’ll click through despite that. Now, if I’m on mobile, I won’t even try because messing with this address bar is an exercise in complete frustration. It’s yet another barrier to accessing content.
