What and when is a new class coming?

Zerin_1

What is the next new class coming and when is it coming. I hope we get a better healer class maybe the best healer ever or a ritualist. Obviously I got to be an investor to make better class options or more classes for new games and old and i'm already getting ready to retrain in the spring. I'd like a new healer class that is better than templar or a ritualist class or a bunch of new classes not just one. Templar is hands down best healer it can hit everyone and not miss.

Well, Wardens came out in 2017, Necromancers came out in 2019, and Arcanists came out in 2023.

By doing math I predict the next new class will release in 2029.

We had Arcanist this year, Necromancer in 2019, Warden in 2017. I wouldn't expect anything new soon.

Nobody knows. But we JUST got the Arcanist class added this year, so we will probably not see another new class for a while.

    Morrowind added Warden in 2017.

Elsweyr added Necromancer in in 2019.

Then we had a drought up to 2023.

Warden was 2017, Necromancer 2019, Archanist 2023. So earliest is likely 2025, but could be 2027.

Best really depends on your considerations, so I can’t agree with “hands down.” Best at burst, perhaps. But since Templar doesn’t offer much in the way of unique group utility, Wardens and Arcanists (and sometimes still Nightblades) are often favored more in endgame PvE. There are two Templar healers on Ansuul HM right now - the same number as DKs. The other 62 are Wardens, Arcanists, and a few NBs, Necros, and Sorcs. Cloudrest has a much greater representation of plars at 13 of the top 100, which is still less than the 14 there would be if each class had an equal distribution. Group comps in PvP may include a Templar for the burst, but the optimal comp does not rely on stacking Templars when other classes can offer shields and buffs on top of healing. Which goes to show that healers are valued for much more than raw healing, and classes need to bring different strengths to the table to be “best” at a role in content.

mhmm I think we do not need new classes now .... the once we already have cover all roles .... if you want to build a good healer you could try Templar and Warden :D best in game healer PvE and PvP wise :D

This is clearly a sequence of squares:
2017 to 2019 can be written as: 2^(2^0)=2
2019 to 2023 can be written as: 2^(2^1)=4
The next new class should be: 2^(2^2)=16 or 2039

Until the implementation of a system that allows already existing characters to be able to change their classes for free, without needing to create another character, i'd say that the game does not need another class.

I mean.. no serious raid group ive been in doesnt bring a warden. Its a given. If a healer class is replaced its most often templar so i simply can't agree with that. Is it used a lot? Sure. To say it is better then wardens which are an absolute must for every group.. thats a reach. I see it replaced with blades or arcs with relative frequency as arcs offer an absolute ton of group utility. For open runs in one of my more serious raid guilds for example the healer slots read as follows:

    Warden healer: typically spc/pil/symphony
    Templar/arc/nb healer: roaring/jorv/spaulder

considering that there was a new class just released 3 months ago, like others said probably be another 2-5 years before we get another class

not like its really all that needed, some of the current classes really need to be rebalanced/overhauled first (*cough* necromancer *cough*) lol

But the last new class is only a few months since release, and is very strong and desirable for end game healing. Most competitive groups will pick arcanist and warden healers over Templar all day long.

The last three new classes were ALL Healing Classes! Sheese! Greedy much? How about a nice new fighting class? Or how about a Bard class?

Not sure about it being 'free', but considering how long the games been out, we do need to be able to change classes.

A lot of time and effort can go into maxing out a character (horse training, getting skill points, leveling crafting, etc.) and losing all of that to try out a new class is not for me. I'd happily pay a steep fee to change classes.

We probably will not know what until it is close to arrival. As for when it will happen next we likely just have speculation.

This will be the first time in over half a decade where ZOS hasn't had story content that people could get in the second half of the year.

The approach could work well or it could bomb either of which might or might not have a significant impact on ZOS's choices (Depending on how far ahead ZOS operates on development it might be too late for them to actually change course. It's possible the next Chapter has been seriously underway since June and thus by the time that the Endless Archive drops and clearly succeeds or fails it will be too far along to actually change much).

Part of any delay will have been due to hardware replacement, so indirectly perhaps. They knew they would have to offer new character slots with a new class, and they said they wouldn’t be able to offer new character slots until the hardware was replaced. The hardware was delayed by covid, which would then have delayed the rest. Whether they would have released a new class earlier if they hadn’t had to wait on the hardware is an interesting question, if moot.

Thinking about Dev chats over the last twelve months they had to do lots of work with the engineering team to make space in the system for a new class.

It sounded like it was a tight fit

If thats the case I'd guess Arcanist is the last class for a very long time - if ever.

It does seem adding new classes is one of the most arduous tasks the development team can accomplish, if not the most. It must be worth it, as sells of new content certainly increase following thoughts of new skills, themes, gameplay, and characters which can be created with the addition of a new class, and character more slots.

Reworking older classes though debatably needed, would likely upset many players, and would not generate the benefits, or revenue of a new class.
