Crab-Slaughter-Crane in Wrothgar is still uncatchable with Sharp's Passive. (PC/NA)

As you can see in the thread, there was hope that the fix of sharp's passive would fix this problem. The issue of pulling up no fish IS fixed, but it is still impossible to catch the fish with his passive unlocked.

Before update 39, I spent about 12 hours fishing in the correct location with artaeum pickled fish bowl, both slottable CP stars, and sharp's passive, and the correct bait (worms). No luck. I had multiple people come and group with me for the group fishing bonus, and those without sharp's passive got the achievement within the first few fishing holes. One person who did have sharp out (but not the permanent passive) fished with me for at least an hour and half, then put sharp away and immediately caught the fish on his next hole.

After update 39, I tried it again, hoping it was fixed. I have been at it for 4 hours this time, still no luck. I have again had people come and group with me, and those without sharp's passive caught it on either their first or second hole.

It's extremely frustrating that someone's dumb coding mistake wastes a day of my life. And to rub salt in the wound you've reduced the amount of daily quests needed for murkmire prepper by 80%. More hours and hours of my life wasted on literally achieving nothing...

I am still having major issues getting this. Did you ever manage to catch it? Has anyone with sharp managed to catch it with or without CP/food since U40? Been here for 2 days and have caught about 4 stacks of fish. This is not counting the treasure fish.

I have Sharp's passive.
Is it still broken?

Do I need to be in group with another player necessarily?

The last post in this thread before yours said the fish was caught, so it was fixed at that point at least.

If you find Atorag near the Morkul Plain wayshrine, she explains that you should try at night and bring friends. But I caught it alone before Sharp and CP 2.0 existed, so friends should not be required. And UESP has a note saying fishing at night (in game time) “doesn’t seem” to be required either. This claim is uncredited but may be based on multiple reports on the forums from when the zone was released saying that it was caught in full daylight.

I used a saltwater fishing hole by the ocean at Morkul Plain, but others report having caught it at different locations in the zone in the past.

To maximize your chances, you could trying using the food, Sharp, CP, and bring friends, but none of that should be absolutely required.

Is it not possible to catch it with a character that does not have Sharp's quest completed and not able to use Sharp? I have had to do this with other achievements etc, use an alternate character or create a new one.

So you are suggesting that I try with a new character that does not have Sharp unlocked?

Unfortunately I completed Sharp's quest so his perk is now account wide.

But I supposed I can try that way.

That shouldn't be necessary, as this bug was from 2023 and was fixed as of the report from one year ago this month. This is effectively a necro.

This fish is extremely easy to catch if you follow the in game instructions. No buffs should be needed. I never had any on the several characters I caught this fish with. Most I had to do was fish 3 or 4 of the holes. Usually, it was the first hole that netted the fish.

However, you will not catch the fish if you ignore the instructions, no matter what you do.

Which instructions can we not ignore?

The only advice from an in-game source that I’m aware of is that given by the NPC Atorag, yet it’s clear from my experience and those of many other players that it isn’t necessary to bring friends or fish at night, which is what she says to do. I don’t know of any other instructions provided by an official source on the matter, so I would be interested in knowing where to find it.

I read the entire page before I posted the first time here, which is why I am asking for your explanation of which instructions are required, as I seem to be missing something.

I have also caught this fish multiple times, but I was not fishing in accordance with the NPC’s instructions when I did so.

The NPC says we should fish:
-at night
-with friends

As plenty of people have caught this fish during daylight and/or solo, including myself, I’m confused as to which instructions are the ones that must not be ignored.

That’s why I asked for clarification. What instructions are actually required beyond fishing in ocean/saltwater in Wrothgar?

Getting this fish by following the instructions doesn’t prove you can’t get it without following the instructions. Those are two different claims.

Fishing grouped just helps with the loot table chance as always.

Years ago when I was cycling Alts through the zone, I never caught this fish when the sun was up. Only at or just after sunset Maybe something was changed. Or it was bugged before.

My friends and I were fishing yesterday, and while the sun was high we had no luck, but during sunset all 4 of us caught the fish.

Sharp's passive active, fishing CP, and pickled fish bowl active.
