Wrothgar fishing, is this a bug or feature?

Anybody that has the rare fishing achievement, were the fishing holes empty?

I went through the salt holes near the NPC that spoke about the rare fish, at night time, and all the holes were empty, I'd do the fish successfully, and no loot, occasionally I'd pull up a furniture item like a sea sponge but never an actual fish be it green, blue or filletable. Am I wasting bait here? Is this a bug? Or is this meant to be a place where you fish exclusively for the rare fish and it is either that or nothing?

It's been a long time since I did the last master angler (like 3 years or more); I don't remember that I had a problem like that - if I HAD I'm pretty sure I'd have posted about it.

I helped a friend with this achievement around 2 months ago and it was working as intended back then.

You're definitely fishing at the right spot, so it's either a bug invented with necrom or just really bad luck.

It's not actually part of Master Angler, I've got all fishing chieves in every zone. The only one I'm missing is this crane-slaughter-crab-donkey fish thing.

So when you did it, you were pulling up actual fish too? What time of day/night was it? The NPC alludes to night time, did it really matter? I do it at night regardless.

It was working like other fishing nodes (i.e., normally) when I did it a few months ago.

Whites, greens, and blues, as well as the one purple that is exclusive to Wrothgar.

Yes, but I just did all the DLCs at the time I was doing master angler. And yes, IIRC, I did get other fish in the one fishing hole (straight down to the sea from the quest giver) it took to get the purple fish.

I used the same hole on all 4 master anglers, and it only took that one hole on all of them. Maybe they not only messed the holes up with Necrom, but screwed up the drop rate if it's taking you a lot of holes. I believe I fished at dusk, though I don't remember for sure now.

Yeah we were pulling up trophy fish as well as standard ones all the time, so it's likely a bug. Can't say anything about day/night as we followed the npcs advice and fished only during night-time.

It wasn't reporting a bug, it was a query as to whether this is normal. Regardless I can now confirm it is a bug, and I know what caused it, please inform the Devs that it is Sharp that is the cause.

I just tried again and the fishing nodes were empty, I got rid of Sharp and the first pull was the Crane fish.

I told several people that were having issues to remove Sharp, the next time they went fishing, after many days of failed attempts, they got the fish very quickly without Sharp present.

What I think is happening is if your "fishing bonus" gets too high then you get no loot window. Once you "reel in the fish" there's no loot window, and the fishing node returns to being able to cast into it.'

I was using the CP green passives for fishing, plus maxed-out Sharp's fishing perk, and artaeum pickled fish bowl food. This produced no loot window when fishing in Wrothgar.

So to experiment I switched to some other non-fishing food and could fish once again.

I then encountered someone else fishing the Wrothgar fishing nodes where you can get the golden fish and that broke fishing again... presumably because the total fishing bonus went above some threshhold which is causing this bug.

I submitted two bugs, the most recent of which is 230717-00709

Yes exactly the same. I managed to get the rare purple fish this morning by sending Sharp off for a nap and fishing with someone else who had Azandar Caught it first or second cast.

When I had Sharp out yesterday and was fishing with someone in the same pool I several times got the invisible fish which I assume was the purple one bugging out

When I stopped getiing loot from hole, I sent my Sharp away and got purple fish from next attempt

For people who have Sharps passive permanently unlocked, I believe this fish to be unobtainable now. Definitely a bug

I have a friend who is affected by this bug too. Turns out having the collectible that makes the buff permanent gives you this bug as well, so it's that that's giving the bug and not just sharp. A heads up for those who have completed the achievements.

Same bug here, happened to me several days ago, and I am posting it now.. -> I have Sharp special bonus permanently now, and I loot no fish now when in a group of fishers. The Wrothgar special fish is unobtainble now.

The dreaded RNG strikes again!!!

The first time I did this achievement (NA-PC) it took in excess of 500 casts.
The second time (EU-PC) it took around 300 casts.

What is happening here is not RNG.

The amount of casts to get the fish at the moment if you have Sharp out, or Sharps passives unlocked is infinite.

Sharp breaks the loot table in Wrothgar, the fish simply will not be available, you could waste 1000 bait on it, and you are guaranteed not to get the fish, or any fish for that matter.

after many hundreds more casts into saltwater fishing nodes in Wrothgar I've confirmed this bug happens when a certain fishing bonus level is exceeded many, many times

there is also a much, much rarer failure with the bonuses that otherwise work (fishing CP and Sharp permanent bonus) that acts just like the other failures - no loot window, node returns to being interactable and I suspect that is the purple Crab-Slaughter-Crane purple quality fish failing in a slightly different way, as I've gotten every other possible type of loot and this failure is very, very rare.. otherwise, I cannot say what contributes to this rarer failure

I submitted bug ticket 230717-00709 for this related but separate fishing bug

@ZOS_Kevin could we get a confirmation that this bug is known and how to avoid it for the other people thus far unaware of the issue and whether this will be fixed soon, please?

So, I now am apparently experiencing this bug. Since the companion trinkets are account wide and I have Sharp's trinket unlocked on my account, I now can no longer obtain the Crab-Slaughter-Crane fish on any of my characters and thus cannot get the achievement. ZOS, please fix this ASAP.
