It was overshadowing lightning and ice staves. Not sure if a status effect damage buff was the right way to go about it, but in principle it was long overdue to make the other elements worth using.

Passive skills do not enhance skills outside of the Staff of Destruction tree in any way. This is a very bad change.

What is it that you are concerned about here? The loss in total damage? Because you are still getting a damage buff in return, just on something else. And the relative damage contribution kind of doesn't matter at the end of the day so long as it doesn't break anything or create some new broken interaction.
i recommend swapping to bow front bar unless you're using a staff skill for some reason.
bow passives are now far superior to staff passives.

If your build is not based on the Staff of Destruction and you spam from this skill line, you will lose damage. The players used the Staff of Destruction only to keep their distance. But now your damage has been reduced. And to get it back, you have to use skills that are somehow related to status effects. In addition, if you do not change the trade, then status effects will work less often and you will lose dps both in pve content and in pvp, since the 500 damage bonus does not apply to dot damage.
The difference between melee and ranged is 600 spell damage and you can't cover it if you spam class abilities and don't use skills from the staff of destruction branch.

Have you tested it though? The 500 damage adds up even without any trait changes. Not to mention, you could probably run an Asylum staff now and be fine. Most destruction staff users are already using Force Shock already anyway, the exception being the same classes that would now prefer lightning or ice staffs (or DKs who appreciate status effect builds already).

Here I sit and check. Now all of my skills deal less damage, but Blastbones and Skeleton Archer still have a low chance of triggering a status effect.Even if I put the trade on chance to cause a status effect. Basically, this is a nerf for all class and pet related skills.
