Names Not Allowed (?)

So I created a new toon, Magicka Arcanist Khajiit. He is orange in color with those slightly faded tiger stripes. I attempted to name him
1) Ike Tiger
& then
2) Ike the Tiger
Both of these names were not allowed. Why is that? Was there some 'rule' I broke while attempting these two names? Thank you.

Dunno about a drug ref - but someone(s) else might have already used those names. They aren't really "singular".

Hmm. Does the chargen actually state "name not allowed"? Or are you getting "name taken"?

As I said-- I really think it's probably got something to do with an anime reference:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtpIfJccRcE

Apparently "Ike! Tiger Mask" means "Go! Tiger Mask," so it isn't a proper name, but "Ike! Tiger" might still be disallowed due to its similarity to the presumably copyrighted title of the show's theme song.

Use a naming scheme to have a lot of possibe names for your characters, then patiently try em until you find one not taken. For example I use water related words in a language with less than 6M speakers for female names. I used a list of short Scrabble words to name characters in a less successful MMO earlier but quickly found out ESO has most short english words in use.

I don't think the auto-censor would catch it if it infringed on copyright. It didn't protest when I made a Khajiit character (since removed) called Tony the Tiger after the Kellogg's mascot. I'm guessing @Elsonso is correct and it censored the 'ket' which is short for ketamine.

I see. To be honest, I hadn't caught that abbreviation.

Still, given the age of the "Tiger Mask W" show, it might be conceivable that "Ike Tiger" was added to some list of disallowed names years ago. I'm not saying that it's likely, just possible.

I'm also asking myself what made the OP choose that particular name in the first place? I mean, think about it. Am I supposed to think it was just some randomly-chosen name and that it wasn't in the slightest inspired by the name of the theme song for the "Tiger Mask W" anime series? After all, anime is such an obscure art form that no one has ever heard of that show and no one is familiar with the name of its theme song, right? /sarcasm (I mean, I had never heard of it, but I'm an old fogey.)

Assuming they use the same censor system for names as for in game chat it will catch "offensive" character strings in innocent phrases and words in style of "whi***e" regardless of context and there is nothing you can do other than try another name. Did you try "Tiger Ike"? In any case, ESO has a lot of character names in use, references to popular culture are very likely taken and some may be against TOS too.
Edit maybe: "Ike", as ex president of some obscure country is the problem. For same reason you cant use Adolf, ex king on Sweden in character name.

Something like "ket" would only be reportable and bannable depending on the context, I don't know that it's censored ingame.

Parallel to the context you are referring to, a name like "Mike Tapioca" would be a name that's not allowed. This would be silly/frivolous.

In terms of reportable names, while something like "Drowns-in-Skooma" may be fine, "High-on-Ket" wouldn't be.

You're right. I just tested that name and the game accepted it, so the reason must lie elsewhere.

It would be silly, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Someone in another game was trying to call a character T I G G E R and another person tried to use a name like Georg McMan and it wouldn't allow that either. The reason for both (confirmed by admins) turned out to be that the game doesn't allow the letters G or M with a space either side or in the format anything-G-space-M-anything to stop people putting G M in their name and pretending to be an admin.

Obviously it's not ideal, but that's how automatic censors work, they can't understand the word or context and make a judgement call, they just have a list of letter/character combinations which are not allowed and block them any time they appear.

I just successfully tried on PTS names "Tiger Qwertyu" , "Ike Qwertyu", "Tiger Ike" (and forgot the Qwertyu part, sorry,) "Iger Qwertyu" and "Ket Quveryu" so it's not "Tiger" or "Ike" or "Tiger Ike" or "Iger" or "Ket". PTS has EU characters now. Verified "Ike Tiger" was already taken. Either it was really taken / marked unavailable or someone else already has tested that name on PTS because this thread... who knows. I deleted the char but "Tiger Ike" should be "already in use" for everyone else now on PTS for a while. It might be still available on PCEU unless someone has tested/taken it there after chars were copied to PTS rather long ago.

All this is useless if your platform is not PC and is using a different censor of course.

Apparently some letters aren't allowed to be near each other. Like xxxg mcccc, nothing with g m is allowed

We are allowed to use Jesus Christ as a taken before caught, alongbwith Harry Potter so I doubt it's copyright issues.

Well, they're not saying "censored" - but if the name is taken, it states "That name is not available". If it's being censored, it states "That name is not allowed". Note that I may not have the words correct - I'm paraphrasing as I've never seen either one on my own characters, but others have said similar.

      No.

there are definitely issues with something like this is censored by at least the in game profanity filter, when i have had that on it would block stuff that made no sense (just because there were 3 letters that made a profane word even if they were spaced and part of 2 separate words)

they probably use the same or similar system to validate names

I'd say it's not unreasonable to assume they weren't trying to reference the anime.

I say that because when I read the OP, my first thought was that they're an LSU fan and wanted to make Mike the Tiger, but they figured that would surely already be taken so they dropped the M and tried for Ike the Tiger (which would make it sound close/similar), then got the "name not allowed" message.

I think Mike is pretty well retired to his personal mansion/exhibit these days which is probably better for him but it was cool back when he made more appearances. Oh and congrats on the the baseball title. (Here's to us both beating BAMA come fall - GBO) :)
