Please give us a toggle to make Settings and Key Binds account bound

I use the same settings on all my characters. It is a real pain to try to remember which Settings I need to adjust on a new character, and even worse for Key Binds. Please give us a toggle to make Settings account bound. It could be similar to the housing permissions, where we could choose which character to have these copy.

And since it would be a toggle those who prefer to keep them separate can still do so.

    Thanks for bringing this up!

It's indeed annoying to do this manually every time you make a new toon or even for all toons if zos decides to change some settings with a patch to "improve" our gaming experience (Looking at you, deactivation of automated quest tracking).

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

i used to use an addon to sync those settings across characters, but i dont believe the addon worked anymore and i never bothered finding another one (since i havent made any characters in almost 2 years lol)

its possible theres another one that does similar to that available now, but i havent looked for that type of addon in years lol

would it be better with an option in game for that? absolutely lol (i also use the same settings on all of my characters)

You can get Votan's Keybinder and libAddonKeybinds if you are on PC to get account wide bindings. It would be awesome if they added it to the base game.

Oh my Sithis, is that the thing thats has absolutely messed up my journal and quests?!

I thought my main quest chain not automatically switching to the next logical story step was a bug!

Instead it switches to some arbitrary other quest I have in my log, like the handing in of a Cyrod-daily.

"No, I can hand in my two week old daily later, I'd like to focus on the world ending threat right now, thank you."

Yes, please! Despite having an addon on PC that fulfills such a function, I really don't like relying on addons for such matters because some of them stop being supported and cease to work. Besides, console players would certainly appreciate the ability to globally change settings because, let's face it, almost none of us use different keybinds for our characters because it's simply inconvenient.

Oh, and then you happen to Name Change your new toon that you spent half an hour setting up... :D

(Edit: I do use AddOn Selector, thank god for that one, but I really wish the general game settings would be account wide / character customizable toggle).

The final stage of creating a new character—when I KNOW I'm gonna keep them forever, and not delete and remake them—is setting all their guild chat colors to the same as all my other characters. I even had to write it down so they're not slightly different ... survival tactic. A toggle/import would be great.

It would also help for Accessibility, for players who use custom keybinds, settings, and colors based on their needs and preferences.

I think it's because certain settings are saved to the PC, not the server. If you get a new PC then I think you have to redo all those settings.

not if you had a copy of the saved settings

i think most of the game settings related ones are in the usersettings.txt, in the same folder that also has the addons folder, saved variables folder, and theres 1 other file in there related to game settings (dont remember off hand and im work right now so cant check lol)

i try to keep backups of those for synchronizing settings across computers

I will suggest it’s not a good way to go about this. We want to protect people from making mistakes and this course of action would permit someone to overwrite their keybinds on some characters they don’t want to.

The better design would be copying keybinds from one specific character. Another great method would be the ability to save a few keybinds, giving them names, with the means to import the chosen keybinds settings.

Both means provide more control over an all or nothing design.

    thats what some addons do

the one i used to use a long time ago that is defunct now was called "binder" which when you got on a character you selected another character to load the settings/keybinds from and thus it would synch the binds

at the time that was the only addon i knew of that did that, but it was still significantly easier than manually going through, i havent tried any of the new addons cause i havent really seen a need since theres actually relatively few keybinds i change from defaults, its mostly the game settings and non-acctwide addon settings that get kind of annoying

I don't care how they make it work as long as it works. It is just a royal pain to set all this up on a new character. I don't know if all my characters now are set up the same because it is just too many key bindings to go through.

I'd also like to be able to say "disable all controller binds" because I will never use a controller.

On PC there are addons which can do this.

Synched Account Settings does most settings, I'm not sure if it does keybinds and can't log in now to check.

There are several specifically for keybindings. I use Binder (which is years out of date but still works) because it's completely invisible and simple to use, it works entirely through chat commands. I think Votan's Keybinder is another popular one.

However I agree that this would be a good function for the base game to offer. It should be optional of course and something you have to enable on each character manually so no one will find their settings changed unexpectedly (which is how the addons already work) but for people who do use the same settings all the time it would save a lot of time when making new characters or changing a setting.

It was kind of weird (in a good way) the first time I made a character after installing Synced Account Settings for the first time (I'd had binder for years). I was used to spending several minutes standing in a cell getting everything set up, but that time I was ready to go almost immediately. But it's most useful when I do change a setting, because I only have to change it once, instead of 9 times.

Rather than an account wide toggle, I'd prefer to be able to toggle them on individual characters. Most of my characters use the same settings, but some use different settings because I play them differently. I would use the account settings for some, but not all.

Right now, I use an addon to do this, but that does not work on XBox. :disappointed:

They don't need to implement account wide settings as that would probably make a lot of issues. Just make an option to export settings to a config file, relog and then import the settings.

That would allow you to share your settings across different accounts on different devices.

(Ideally use a NAS w/ rsync or SSHFS and boom, all Linux machies have synced settings constantly, git would work too ig)

This works great for keybinding, but not for account-wide game settings. For someone like me who constantly creates and deletes characters, it would be nice if ZOS just made our game settings were account wide. Like WHY does a new character start in first person mode when 99% of the players play in third person?? Why do I have to change my camera settings for every character, I hate the 'over the shoulder' viewpoint and want my camera centered. That sort of thing.

I know in several addons they allow for account-wide settings, but some allow you to type the name of the character you want the settings replicated from... so having something like that would save a lot of time. Because account-wide settings could be a pain if, for some reason, you wanted a change on one character but it kept reverting each time you logged in. I know some of my characters I have to adjust the camera height due to some characters being taller and others shorter- which throws the camera off.

Well, again, i'm an outlier. While keeping track of keybinds is something I'm not too good at (hence using the addon) account settings by this time are pretty much automatic for me. I wouldn't be unhappy though if they moved all of the keybind and account settings into the game from addons - as long as they didn't screw something up....

I don't have a good color code, but if you don't mind pink, I find a dark and light pink are both pretty readable.
