For those of you on PC who are already hunting down the new leads, how is the treasure map situation looking, and are we looking at decent drop rates for leads, or are we in for another mind numbing grind?

In the "run into" Tel Pen for one CE treasure map, and into Apocrypha for another, I got a lead out of each - purple in Tel Pen, gold in Apocrypha.

The purple was on my PC EU account, gold on PC NA.

The fact that they keep putting so many with treasure maps shows they have neither understanding nor consideration for how a good portion of the player base feels about these types of leads. One or two is tolerable, but 9 for this and the 14 required for motifs is egregious.

Thankfully there isn't an Ancestral motif in Necrom, so those 14 leads in treasure maps are gone, but 9 other leads seems a bit much. It was weeks before I saw my first Galen map, and to-date I've personally looted maybe 5-6 Galen maps, so hopefully the drop rate on the new maps is considerably higher, or else I'll be skipping all of the new antiquities as well.

I've lost track of how many leads I've gotten but most of mine have been from harvesting, from mobs and I got one from fishing the other night.

I think at least they can make the range larger for example you can also get the lead from vvardenfell maps

Also got two gold leads at the same time in one bag from a Vvardenfell world boss quest turn in. That was a first for me.

for codex completists, that number is multiplied by 3, unless they have only one codex entries (i've counted 7 with 3 entries, maybe i missed some) :s

Any lead from Treasure Maps is going to be a mind-numbing, excruciating grind because of the nested RNG.

If they follow the 'usual' pattern there will be a good chance for treasure maps during the chapter event later in the summer.

Also a good chance to farm Bastion Nymic and grab whatever goodies drop from there, I have an inkling that the popularity of this activity might take a very sharp nosedive unless they make QoL allowances so 'farm it while is hot' and all that jazz.

The pain is when it comes to DLC, which generally has just two treasure maps out of a pool of a couple of hundred and is usually a couple of years from release before is part of any event that may have a increased drop rate of treasure maps.

For that The Deadlands currently takes the mouldy, stale biscuit.

We might get a Blackwood + The Deadlands event in late autumn but given that this year's Q3 is different (no DLC) and the event schedule is all over the place due to the EU megaserver upgrades idk...

That's awesome. My Codex is still currently incomplete because after hundreds of Deadlands maps, I'm still missing 3 leads for motif chapters. ZOS is never going to learn that treasure maps are a terrible way to implement leads. I get the feeling that I might just have to farm new furnishing plans and just give a hard pass on the new zone and the corresponding antiquities.

from what i saw all of the antiquity leads that come from treasure maps are part of furnishings, which require 3 codex entries

i managed to get 1 from one of the CE maps

im not really happy about the leads in treasure maps either, they really should be changed to just any treasure chest, with maybe a higher drop rate from the treasure maps

Yea I thought most of them were from Treasure chest not treasure maps so might need to go back and double check.

The last Skin lead was ridiculous so hopefully no from the treasure maps only.

if those are random though, its not any better than any other source that gives treasure maps

if your looking for motif leads you need a specific zone treasure map (ive only gotten maybe 3 galen maps since that released and i still havent gotten a single lead from there, heck im still missing 3 of the original motif antiquity leads codex entries)

even when i do get the specific maps i need, i still rarely if ever get a motif lead

The benefit is that it's an extra source of treasure maps that didn't exist before Necrom. He gave me a Galen map yesterday that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise (even though it was a dud.)

The problem with sourcing leads through treasure maps is that it's multiple layers of RNG. First you have to get lucky and find a map, then you have to be lucky and get the right map, then you need luck to even get a lead, and then be lucky enough to get the correct lead that you are actually looking for. And the more zones that are introduced to the game, the more diluted the pool becomes to get maps from one specific area.

No idea why they thought frustrating players in this manner was a good idea.... but it is what it is.

yeah thats why ive never really focused on these, and why i refuse to buy treasure maps

if they drastically increased the drop chance of the leads from the maps, it would help significantly, though still need better ways to get the maps we actually need for the leads (as there is no way to convert a map that we already have)

i wish they added some kind of merchant that allowed you to exchange a treasure map with that of a different zones map for some gold cost

The simplest solution would be to give a higher drop rate for treasure maps in the zone that they are found in. For instance, if you're in the Deadlands, then there should be a higher chance of receiving a Deadlands treasure maps as opposed to any of the other maps. Say 25% chance of the specific zone and 75% chance of any other zone. At least then you could farm specific maps to make the ridiculous grinds a bit less frustrating. Ancestral Daedric motif leads coming from just 2 maps in a really deep loot pool and then having a 20% or less chance of dropping a lead, and then having a 1 in 14 chance of being the chapter that you need... it's downright poor implementation.

putting leads in treasure maps doesnt change this at all, they have been doing this for 3 years now

i mean you cant dig up the treasure without a map in the first place, and that only takes 30 seconds + travel time from the wayshrine
