PK-ing via Herald Seeker

Well that didn't take long.

Players have figured out that Herald Seekers have a very long leash and their offensive toolkit has an unusually large range so they are dragging these mobs around either on top of players that are already engaged in combat with another one, or to players that are scrying/digging or basically wherever they can be a nuisance 'for the lulz'.

Given that curving player behaviour is easier said than done it might be judicious to revise the behaviour of this mob to reduce the amount of irritation it can cause in immature hands.

It's messed up for sure, but it's also kind of funny when they try it on a person like me who shreds them. Like, yeah, I'm scrying and I obliterated your troll mob, what now?

Certainly not something I would wish on new players or low level/inexperienced players. I agree that ZOS needs to act sooner rather than later to address it, but I'm pretty sure this will be a thing until like August.

Hard agree on this. Had a player drag a Herald Seeker onto me 3 times today in a row. I was already engaged in combat with a different one which I already had nearly down each time the player dragged another one to me to troll me. I'm not on a character that would have big amount of health so it caused lot of chaos and frustration.

Sheesh… Got my one kill for the fragment, and now I am avoiding anything to do with that daily. Yet it looks like I can’t even actively avoid them now?

I've been lucky - just ran around a bit for antiquities and wayshrines yesterday, saw one Seeker with no one on it, saw another one get dragged on top of a couple of other players, but I was in process of clicking on the wayshrine, and got away before getting pulled. Was thinking about getting the rest of the skyshards today, then saw this thread.... so I think I'll just wait on it all now until it gets fixed. I die enough without help, y'know?

@ZOS_Kevin, @ZOS_GinaBruno, as reported, some players are abusing the Herald Seeker mechanics to harass other players. Is this something you are already aware of?

Herald seekers seem to attack just about anyone in render distance so long as they're engaged on a target. It may be wise to just limit their attacks to people who are in combat.

No. The combat with these things spans half of Tamriel  so any time I am in the Telvanni Peninsula, I will get a circle under me and one of those tendril things spawning at my location. Since I often can't see the Seeker, I am not sure which direction to go in order to avoid further combat. Of course, I can let the tendril hit me and then run in the opposite direction of my companion and pet.

I'll know one is in combat because tentacles will reach and try and squiggle into my tympanic membrane (I play an Argonian so basically those be the ears) out of nowhere.

Being a boi with teh cute fangs I just sprint-stealth away.

I don't know about deliberate griefing, but those ground tentacles can end up being quite a ways away from the seeker itself. I've seen sorcs and wardens traveling the roads and their pets will get aggro and start attacking one nearby, and it can get pretty ugly. Plus a lot of players will pull the seekers to the road so they can get help from passers-by, which usually works but also has the possibility of gathering up the uninterested as well.

Regardless, people doing antiquities should be rendered immune to aggro.

They really should look in to minimizing the distance of, or altering them to only engage people in active combat with, the Herald Seekers. I think they're the one negative I have against Necrom right now. It is incredibly annoying to do stuff in the Peninsula when I can randomly get dragged into combat against something I may be leagues away from and had no intention to fight - especially so if I'm engaged in a conversation with an NPC, or gathering, or fishing, or what have you.

    i hope @ZOS is aware.
there are many Twitch streams with Necrom, some are from Stream Team members and it is quite noticeable during streams that the "stray tentacles" attack uninvolved players by surprise even at a wayshrines blue torch, preventing them from teleporting out.
Not a game-changing bug, but it is funny and annoying. B)

pretty sure they are bugged and attack anything within like a 40-50 meter radius regardless if your in combat or not

ive been out of combat riding a mount past them, and then all the sudden i see their tentacle attack forming under me

as long as it doesnt hit me i stay out of combat, and that attack is the only one that seems to hit random people, not just the players engaged in fighting it

Maybe this is the next stage in evolution for the combat bug!
At least there is actually an enemy you can find and kill.
