Can someone do a breakdown of where you should be, where you start, and what is considered the starting island?

I know there is the tutorial, which can push you to level 4-ish, then the first area you get to. Then there's the sugar cat person, that can take you to a second island available immediately. Is one of these zones considered the starting area, or is it something else?

Actually, Sugar Claw will take you "back" to the first island. "Back" in quotes because your character had not been there... here's what happened.

During beta, one of the issues identified by testers was that the game forces you to go through the 1st island and not let you leave until the main quest is done (can take hours if you are a detail explorer type). This made it impossible for people to create a character and start running them towards friends elsewhere and play together unless they are in the same faction. A change was made so that your first landing is actually on the 2nd "island" or "mainland" with the option to go "back" to the first island.

For Auridon, Sugar Claw takes you back to Khenarthis' Roost. That's when you should head towards, once you left ColdHarbour and got separated with the Prophet.

As others have said, you should be able to get to level 6 or so before you run out of things to do in the first island and head back to Auridon.

See i dont get how people play ... from level 1 to now, wich is 26 i never had toubles finding stuff to do or level up, its quite the opposite for me, i have a hard time finding mobs that i havent outleveled yet. How do you people do it? Just rush rush rush through quests or something? Ignoring mobs and what not?
Or do you just do the map main quest without picking up anything else, because yes then you gonna be to low.
And i see questions in zone chat all the time, im level 13 where do i go to level? Uhm ... youre asking that in Grahtwood where mobs are level 16-23 ?

I'm a first time noob to MMOs, so starting in Auridon first did throw me for several days. the beta version landed me directly into Khenarthi (Eagle Strand) so I didn't understand when i landed on a ship in Auridon this time, why the quest line was telling me to go to talk to Razum Dar & travel to Khenarthi before I completed the Auridon area completely, but now after reading many posts and googling questions re this, I feel that it actually is smart....

It gave me basic familiarity with Auridon for several quests and I joined the Mages Guild & Fighters Guild (accidental) by visiting their bldgs.

I checked the TESO life.com Quest Guide (which is awesome!) and I see now that both Khenarthi and Auridon have multi levels which let me travel back and forth if I wish to do that for a more expansive playing area to start!

I wish that in the BEGINNER FAQ, this was better explained for new players:

Tell them to proceed to Khenarthi Roost (for Altmer players) then backtrack to Auridon. :)

The starting experience is odd. I started off on Auridon quests then noticed we were getting close to level 7 and went to Kenarthi not to outlevel quests there too much and then went back to Auridon seeing as we were starting to outlevel other quests we had taken.
I think the design was more liniar before, forcing you to do the strating isles first but they changed it because people complained. Maybe it would've been a better idea to leave it like that.
