Why are Elves so ugly?

Still waiting for answers about class set aura behavior, and also hoping that one day hair dyeing will be an option. We know it's canon thanks to a book in the Manor of Masques! (House of Reveries: The Troupe)

Seminolegirl1992✭✭✭✭✭Elder Scrolls Elves to me always looked pretty alien rather than beautiful. We are actually spoiled in ESO where they were made to be a bit more palatable than in other games. That said, it can take very careful angles, lighting, and clothing to make my elves look attractive even here.

This. A lot of it is angles. I think elves in tv/movie or pathfinder media are far prettier than elder scrolls elves, but I've made do with what we have, and I think they're rather aesthetically pleasing.
I've got even more but I got lazy. Tygerfire✭✭While I generally agree that there are some very ugly elves in the game, I think it comes down more to the difficulty with sliders for that race.
As most of you have posted and evidence in pics, there are quite a large variety of attractive elves out there. I just think its a higher degree of difficulty in the creation process than with other races.
I used to have a few sites bookmarked that showed the slider for their character creations and I would just follow them, but not sure if they are available anymore.0 -

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.2 -

✭✭✭My Altmer was as good looking as I could make.(not very) I bought the gemologist outfit and put on the glasses and haven't taken them off since that day. By comparison i have a beautiful Bosmer and a beautiful Breton.
I would like very dark hair for the Altmer. And I would love her being just a tad shorter as she runs ugly.0 -

✭✭✭✭✭Forgot to post my "appreciation" to elves here. Sure, some people might not think mine characters are attractive, but which has been stated, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder and I and I know others think they are rather fetching.
My altmer might be a bit unusual from many female altmer often shown. She's older, and I wanted to embrace the angular faces and bird of prey eyes. So not exactly mainstream beautiful.
Two flavours of bosmer:
Two dunmer, and I like them for their sharp and angular features:
And for good measure, an orsimer, because they are mer too despite what other mer say and I think he's rather dashing in a ruggedly handsome way.

✭✭ESO made all races look better...more human IMO. Compare the Altmer or the Orsimer to what they looked like in Skyrim or even in older TES games and they look 100% more attractive in ESO. High Elves in Skyrim were super unattractive with very angular faces just like Orcs looked like ill tempered green pig men - but that made it more believable that they were not the same race as Man.0 -

Well, Skyrim was/is predicated on "ugly Thalmor beating on Nords". You can make really good looking characters of any race in Skyrim, but you need mods to do it....

I consistently had an impossible time telling the difference between Bosmer and Altmer in Skyrim. I like how both look much better in ESO.
And also Nords and Imperials felt like they were impossible to tell apart too. The only giveaway was their names a lot of times.1 -
