Are lockpick game hacks a thing now?

I just saw someone open a master level safebox as if it was a normal container, it took about 1.5 seconds, it's just not possible to do that.

I wish I had the player name, but it all happened so fast and they sprinted off again that I missed it. It was in the inn at Vastyr

Sounds to me like they just forced the lock.

One of the leggydeerman ledgerdemain passives increases the chance to force pick a lock by 70% when maxed out

Walk up, hit a single button, and then poof unlocked chest

There's an option on every lock to try and force it, if you don't have any points in the passive your chance of success can be as low as zero, but the fully maxed out passive ups it by as much as 70%.

I do master chests and don't force locks (never got the passives for it %). If the peg stop is very shallow then the quickest it would be is around 8 seconds - about a second a peg with allowance for UI changes.

Dude definitely popped the lock :D

Yup, the lazy way of picking locks. You can still do a master lock within a few seconds if you're good at it though. I've done it many times.

Yes I'm starting to wonder if they haven't accidentally coded the scale the wrong way round!!

Master locks are the quickest to pick because pins move faster. It's not at all hard with some practice. I'm not at all twitchy or precise myself and I hardly ever fail picking a master lock at first try. Just keep picking every lock you can. Lockpicks are cheap from vendors and drop generously from containers.

FYI you can max out Legerdemain in about a week (10 mins per day) by stealing apples at the Belkarth apple orchard.

Two ships at Daggerfall harbour at spitting distance from outlaws refuge have plenty of containers to steal from with no nosy guards and few citicens. Also stealable treasures from containers are not shared loot and visiting outlaws (as zone change) resets em. Good for Legerdemain grind and acquiring treasures of type x for Thieves Guild dailies. Also the few civilians there are good for pickpocket and murder practice.

You can also loot the two boats, take the 2nd boat to Davens Watch, loot the new boat you are now on, take it back to Daggerfall and if you still have inventory, loot it again before hitting the fence.

there is a lockpick helper addon, but it won't help you solve it in 1.5s. seems to me like the person got tired of lockpicking and just forced it.

Just following on from this, I just did the Abbey in Blackwood and every master chest was forced with a single attempt. Advanced was very similar. Every simple took two or three, sometimes four. Maybe ZOS should actually check this? It's been like this for a fair old time.

I force every single lock, unless there is a pick x lock endeavor.

Orcinium is also great, it has the benefit that the palace is its own zone so then you enter or exit it reset.
Main benefit of Belkarth apple orchard is that it don't fill up your inventory as fast.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

An pro tips on pc if you are running especially new dungeons with friends is to let all take turn trying and then exiting chests.
The last one open the chest but all get it marked in map.

And I tend to force locks, not very good at picking, I tend to force until it bunches and then try again but stop at position.

Because my main has maxed out legerdemain, I force all locks, except when I have to pick a certain number for an endeavor.

Whatever "marked on map" you refer to is an add on function, not a general PC feature.

I can tell you don't play (or at least open chests) in Imperial City. Fiddling with a lock is a good way to get ganked. Smash and grab, and be on your way, ready to battle. But good on you for calling everyone else "lazy."

When I create a new character, the Legerdemain skill line is the only one I purchase from the Crown store to unlock. It was a royal pain to level, and being able to force locks on chests is invaluable to me. The other passives, not so much, until I run Thieves Guild quests.

Popped lock for sure. It's not outside the realm of possibility for a person to manually pick a lock in a few seconds though. I got pretty good at it on console, learning to guess the timing. If I miss a single tumbler I'm usually in a rush.

When I first started out, oddly I found the higher-difficulty locks easier because the pins were more responsive.

These days, with maxed Legerdemain passives, I just break a lockpick and force everything open. It's not that common, even on a Master lock, to fail the roll and there's rarely someone else around to snipe it while you're in cooldown from the snapped pick.

IC is definitely one place where I force locks, although I'll pick the lock on occasion, depending on how many players are in IC and where the chest is. Most everywhere else, I'll usually pick the lock so I get some XP, but will occasionally force the lock.

Forcing locks can be a hassle because it always breaks the pick, and could break several picks before you're successful, so if you're someone who prefers to force locks then you've got to keep your eyes on how many picks you've got left.
