So, can you only do this with horses you purchase from the stable? I've never bought one like that and have never seen an option to name them. Or is this something that can only be done on PC? I play on Xbox.

In the collections tab/window i have the option to rename all my mounts and non-combat pets.
I play on PC though.

You can name all your mounts and pets, but you'll only see the name in the collections menu. On PC you right-click on the mount/pet and choose 'rename', I assume there's a similar process on consoles but I don't know what button it is.

I always name mine, unless it's a free one I'm never going to use. But then I run into the problem that they're still sorted by the type of mount so I waste time trying to find them because I'm thinking of the name I've given it and I scroll to the wrong place - for example looking at the top of the list for Brith when my Shadowghost Horse is at the bottom.

Maybe this is something I need to get into!

I do take time and put thought into creating my character names.

I name all mine different things and since I have 18 toons and each use several, that's a bit much to get into. But my favorite one is the Imperial White-Gold Courser, since he's gold and sparkly and shimmery and makes windchime noises when I summon him. I fondly remember people freaking out over him when he was released; apparently he made some folks feel like their masculinity was threatened by just seeing him in the game. So I immediately named him Grimdark The Edglord (I had to leave out a letter because of character limit).

In 2007 in Oblivion, my elf plopped down her life savings at the Cheydinhall Stable and bought her precious mare. Since then my elf has learned time travel and brought her mare to Skyrim in 2014. They both made it to ESO in 2016 where they currently continue to adventure together. Though Superian was black with white mane and tail in Oblivion, she evolved into a palomino in Skyrim and continues to sport palomino coloring in ESO.

The mare's name is borrowed from my late grandfather's late thoroughbred of the same name. The name came from blending that of her sire (Superior) and dam (Terry Ann). Superian's grandsire was Gallant Fox who, as a three year old, won the Triple Crown in 1930. Though a competing thoroughbred, Superian was a hunter/jumper, not a race horse, and her fame never rose to the lofty heights of Gallant Fox.

The horses are usually named Mrs Ed or Mr Ed.. although i think one of them might still be named Glue, after i had a little mountbug once and got a wee bit miffy

Heh love theese names! Someone need to name one "STAAAAAAAHP!" Like the horse Raz talks about one time, i totally forgot how it went, but i do remember he had horse-steaks that night

My main tends to stick quite... mundane names to his mounts and pets, like Fritz (the Ashen Fang Lair Courser) or Frank (the Banekin).
But then he has a tendency to get really silly during festival times, anyway ... currently dressing up as a Zombie baker and vomiting pretty much everywhere when waiting for a Dolmen or Delve boss to respawn.
