You should have said about the incoming class and their portals skill instead, that might have held more weight. GW2 - Mesmers (a class) can place portals for friends to go through from one place to another. The only difference that the incoming portals with the new class is that they go directly on the ground unless I am mistaken and not standing upright.
In GW2 these are mainly used for helping other players to do jumping puzzles. We don't have jumping puzzles in this game (yet ) so I think they will be of very limited use.
Now ZOS, lets get to it - bring on the jumping puzzles!!!

Oh please no.... I can't handle stuff like that at all!

Hahaha, trust me, I don't want them here either. Mind you there are 2 already here in the game, but not really, they are VERY basic, and both involve Skyshards I believe.
I really would not like the difficulty of them that came after base game maps in GW 2 here - they just would not work. For one there is no decent jumping in this game, it can be tricky just jumping on something right next to you for example. It seems the game can't understand that you want to jump and move forward at the same time from a standing position. You have to walk first and then jump, that comes with it's own problem then of over jumping. Jumping in this game is VERY bad. So yeah, jumping puzzles won't be a thing unless they add a Z axis or whatever it would need.

Also to port people inside the castles in wvw
Worry not everyone, gw2 mesmers actually need to get to both ends of where they set up their portals, so that was the work of having someone hide inside the castle when enemy have flipped it, or when your side tried and failed to flip it....
And in my understanding arcanist needs to be able to point the cursor at destination while also having enough ground in front to place the entry portal, so trying to mimick that with arcanist portals is going to be... difficult.
