Selene's set is a copy for Guild Wars 2 ranger skills?

Been playing a bit of guild wars 2 again lately, the ranger class, and its just strange how one of the ranger skills (greatsword/skill2) is like selene monster set bear invocation.
- same animation: a big bear appear and mauls your ennemy
- same sound effect (bear roar)
i mean its exactly the same??? and guild wars 2 came out 2012, eso 2014???

Maybe, maybe not, just wanted to point that out, maybe some players have encoutered this too :pensive:

I'm sure there's many examples of similar skill animations (even similar skill mechanics) in different games. For example how many games have some type of chain lightning or flamethrower skill? I don't think it's a big deal.

It’s a bear doing bear things. Can’t copyright bears, let alone bears bearing.

Its normal... MMOS in general have almost nothing original, one has inspirations or things from others with another face! If we take into account the ''copied'' things we would have to mention all the fireballs, all the staves, swords, equipment, resources, skill colors etc, that change from one game to another... I don't see anything too much, if you come across things similar to other games especially mmos... Anyway, just have fun.

Animal themed classes and skills are common in video games. What is one of the first animals people think of as imposing and dangerous? A bear. What do bears do? They maul. What do they do when they maul? They roar. If anyone should be suing for plagiarism, it is Mother Nature.

You should have said about the incoming class and their portals skill instead, that might have held more weight. GW2 - Mesmers (a class) can place portals for friends to go through from one place to another. The only difference that the incoming portals with the new class is that they go directly on the ground unless I am mistaken and not standing upright.

In GW2 these are mainly used for helping other players to do jumping puzzles. We don't have jumping puzzles in this game (yet ;)) so I think they will be of very limited use.

Now ZOS, lets get to it - bring on the jumping puzzles!!! :p

Or sees the Arcanist beam that looks like Moira's ultimate ability healing/damage beam in Overawatch or the Arcanist's portal that looks like Symmertra's portal in Overwatch ;-)

If you were a talented Mesmer they sure made for some fun side cash. I used to love the gravitas from carrying people through some of the larger more complex puzzles added after HoT.

Hahaha, trust me, I don't want them here either. Mind you there are 2 already here in the game, but not really, they are VERY basic, and both involve Skyshards I believe.

I really would not like the difficulty of them that came after base game maps in GW 2 here - they just would not work. For one there is no decent jumping in this game, it can be tricky just jumping on something right next to you for example. It seems the game can't understand that you want to jump and move forward at the same time from a standing position. You have to walk first and then jump, that comes with it's own problem then of over jumping. Jumping in this game is VERY bad. So yeah, jumping puzzles won't be a thing unless they add a Z axis or whatever it would need.

I was going to say the same thing. I don't think ZOS have any intention of adding jumping puzzles and if they did they'd have to revamp how jumping works first. The way it's done now is ok (usually) for jumping over small obstacles in your path or for 'bunny hopping' in combat and I suspect that's all ZOS ever intended it to be used for. Anything more than that runs into problems.

Also to port people inside the castles in wvw ;)

Worry not everyone, gw2 mesmers actually need to get to both ends of where they set up their portals, so that was the work of having someone hide inside the castle when enemy have flipped it, or when your side tried and failed to flip it....

And in my understanding arcanist needs to be able to point the cursor at destination while also having enough ground in front to place the entry portal, so trying to mimick that with arcanist portals is going to be... difficult.

Yeah, that was my thought after posting my last post - portals being abused in castles in PVP. I have not seen enough of the new class in action tho to see how they work - so thanks for that info, looks like that won't be an issue.
