In-Game Chat - Already Becoming Infested and Annoying

It's not even 4-4 yet and already in early access the chat is full of guild recruiter spamming and gold for sale spamming. Game gold for real world money.

This needs to be tackled immediately.

They are not selling gold because of the lack of AH. They just want to steal your account

Whether the can or can't is nothing. They are completely flooding the tiny chat window and the intent and advertising if game gold for real world money. That's all Zenimax needs to know.

There's one guy using a fake name after several lines of blank space to try and stop people from ignoring him.
On the plus side, after reporting him earlier today I saw him again this evening on a different account, so he may have been banned once. This spamming is intolerable, though. ZOS needs to crack down.

The easiest piece is they need to implement a report gold spammer option off the right click menu from the chat window. When choosing that, it grabs the account name and screen caps the chat log object and drops it in and sends, no player intervention necessary, no need to make players jump through hoops for a common problem.

You could literally have 1 person on staff review periodically during the day for bans. Boost sales for the game by having gold sellers buy more to continue. Keep banning...quickly. Its a win-win.

Its in every game and no game has ever killed it off, don't expect them to be able to either.

You realise that they're using fake or stolen credit cards, right? Zenimax will most likely lose money due to potential transaction fees from chargebacks from the rightful owners of those cards. Then there's the hijacked accounts of the players who are new and/or foolish enough to believe the gold spammers.

This shows a SEVERE lack of oversight on Zenimax...after how many decades of this gold spam *** have we had to deal with...and devs STILL can't get it through there stupid thick heads that you need to hit this crap with a hammer right out of the gates, and not wait years like blizzard did...in fact to this day, Blizzard STILL can't figure this *** out, yet some guy with only limited access to WoW's API made an addon that blocked 99% all chat spam back when I played.

I swear game companies are reaping huge profits from gold spammers and have zero incentive to actually have a decent chat filter.

You CAN NOT stop gold spammers from existing, but you can stop them from advertising yet no company to date gives a *** about doing this. You can right click/report spam until your face turns blue but IT DOES NOTHING. If that feature actually did anything, it would be abused to hell and back by players with an axe to grind. Not to mention most accounts are disposable anyways. THey buy the game, get an account, make as many characters as they can before the account gets shutdown from either no payment or breaking the rules, but by then they have already made profits dozens of times over from stupid players who give their CC info over and get their bank accounts or CC's maxed out.

No you HAVE to CODE IN TO THE GAME a smarter filter that stops the advertising and makes it not worth it to sell in that game anymore. If the addon that WoW had was hard coded into the game for everyone, it would have put the brakes on WoW's spam problems, but nope, not worth the man hours apparently.

I hope Zenimax is not as full of incompetence as Blizzard is when it comes to this.

This need to be solved asap. Or just wait until they whisper each of you players one by one spamming their gold advertisements (like in FFXIV)

They had a partial fix for this in WoW at one point (preventing players under level 10 from communicating via any method except /tells) and it was reverted due to new players complaining that they couldn't get into Trade Chat.

This was when the gold spammers used to stack corpses in town to spell out the name of their website.

    They always find a way.

I would love to see a smart logic filter that analyzes each reported gold spam, detects patterns and common words/language used, and learns from each new report to keep improving itself, similar to how modern spam filters work for e-mail.

As for zone chat, it should strictly be IC, with an opt-in OOC for any non-IC communications, and the IC zone chat kept strictly moderated to mute offenders.

(Although that does nothing to fix the immersion-breaking egregiously bad names!)

I agree but I gotta say the one thing they did get right is the account-wide ignore, every MMO needs that.

so please continue to report this issue to our Support Team in-game by using the /help command.

You would get literally thousands of reports if you linked a spam report to the dropdown when rt clicking the name.

Many find it easier to simply use the ignore function that is there over taking the time to fill out a report.

That is correct, and all should use the ignore function should they choose to. However there is a clear violation of game policy occurring as @ZOS_TristanK‌ mentioned, and my understanding is that these gold sellers lure you to their website and steal credit card information.

This is no joke for the ESO/gaming community and Zenimax.

Please make it easier to report gold sellers so that I don't have to fill out the whole form, write a note etc. I just want a drop down "gold seller" report it and move on. Otherwise it ruins my gaming experience because I am reporting these gold sellers every few minutes.

It's easy to report them in-game and then add them to your chat ignore list. I've reported some 5 of them tonight...

It is not only gold sellers, I have not logged on in almost 24 hours, but last night there was plenty of guild spamming in chat as well as the typical trolling insults and immature arguments that always plague zone chat.

SO far I have resisted turning chat off in hopes of helping people with questions, as well as resisted reporting people, but if it gets to the point where I feel the need to turn of chat then I will stat using report as well. Some of the arguments were minor annoyances at most, but others were obvious violations.

What is the policy tho are you going to "investigate" for 6 months then ban ? Its not even official release day and the problem is only going to get worse and worse and if you don't do something big and drastic and noticeable by the community to show to us that your actually doing something it will hurt the game. I already have turned off zone chat because of the spam.

You need a couple people to review reports and when its an ad for gold selling leveling and that sort of thing its pretty obvious and that account needs to be banned right there and then no waiting for 6 months take a person about 1 minute per report to see that it is indeed gold selling spam and then BANHAMMER !!!!!

Show us you want to protect your game and the people who are here to actually PLAY your game were all waiting on you right now. Don't let us down.

I suspect some of the these guys are using not-yet-paid-for early access codes; I don't know if banning will be terribly useful (yet). Its like banning spammers in FTP games.

I also have played on and off since pre-launch. Every other chat was a Gold seller. It gets quite annoying when a chat box pops up and the whole thing is filled with 1 message. I don't know that I would stop playing, but if turning off chat is an option, could someone tell me how. Or is there a filter to hit on special characters. It seems most start with Astericks or some other character.
