New chapter....new character selection screen.....old request: choose your own.

This isn't the first time this has come up, but here goes:

Any chance we can have the option of choosing backgrounds for the character selection screen? I'm not sure i can do a whole year of looking at diseased vegetation. It's really offputting.

The game art in general is gorgeous, but I'm with you on the new character select screen. That bleeding cookie mushroom makes me feel a strong negative feeling. And it's so large and in the foreground.

It would be nice to be able to select from previous options.

Thanks for saying so. I agree there's so much art that's wonderful in the game. This is a difficult change and is going to be hard to live with.

Agreed, there is the option to choose the loading screen music per character, so why not extend that to be able to chose appropriate art per character?

It's not like having a different background makes me less interested in the Necrom chapter.

Also the gamepad 'press A to start' screens are really gorgeous compared to the default PC keyboard login.

Yes! I came to the forums just to post on this because the current one is SO BAD!! It was nice to see other players thinking the same. PLEASE let us select from different character screens. It would be nice to reminisce on the different screens over the years anyway. It's not a big ask.

Tastes differ, but apart from that: how much time do you spend on the character select screen? Not that I'm opposed to choice, just wonder how you can get such strong negative feelings for a screen I spend maybe 30 seconds per day on, switching betweeen characters.

I'm going to bite, since you used my exact wording. Well, I cycle through all my characters to do my daily writs, and sometimes I go to an alt for another reason. It doesn't have to be a long time to be noticeable.

I'm sure you have places that your eye is drawn to on various loading screens, for better or worse. It's a once seen, can't be unseen thing whether that is reasonable or not.

Would like to have an option to switch those as well, as I've barely seen any footage of the pre-High Isle ones.

I would really like to change the main menu to whatever I wanted and change the character select. I miss the old alliance based ones, logging in and seeing my nord against a snowy backdrop was great

It’s neither diseased nor vegetation — it’s fungi!
I like the new character background screen but I’d be all in support of an option to select your preference if it isn’t complicated to implement.

I’d like the faction flags to return to the character select menu, I always hated to see them go.

There are probably a lot of PvE players nowadays who have no idea what faction their characters are.

Some of characters look totally out of place in such a rural setting. They're townies. There isn't even a proper footpath. They might get mud on their shoes

They allow us to change the music, they should also allow us to change the background as well. It would be a nice feature addition.

Originally, the character background depended on Alliance, so there were three in use at the same time. Then we went to a single background for all characters, and lost the Alliance standard, because that was part of the background image.

So we know that having the background depend on the character is not something new, but we need to remember that we couldn’t have the old scheme back without the Alliance linkage. So what aspect of the character could drive it? Perhaps their home zone, i.e. the one containing the player house where /home returns them. Or the one where they logged off, which could be the same thing.

The original Alliance backgrounds also represented five zones at once, so some extras would be needed, but they likely exist from the dungeon DLC load screens.

The combo of the screen change and music gives a rather foreboding feel, but I don't mind it so much because it's a good precursor to the chapter to come.

I would love the option to change it back to Blackwood or High Isle though

I’m actually surprised at how bright and colorful it is! Given the “Shadow over Morrowind” theme, I was expecting something a lot darker, but I’m happy to see Morrowind again. The ability to choose background screen would be a nice addition though.

It's really odd to me that they're plugging the morrowind side of the new expansion, instead of the literal deadric realm of apocrypha. The latter would've made a much more interesting start screen.

But also because I'd love to keep the current one on my Dunmer forever, because I absolutely LOVE it

Personally, I don't want the choice(although I wouldn't mind it) BUT I want the screen behind my characters in the log in window to be based on WHERE those characters are. Why are all my characters that I park in Gonfalon Bay all of a sudden presenting themselves with giant mushrooms behind them??

They could do something similar to dcuo. Dcuo every dlc up to the 11th or 12th added a new background for character select. We can chose wich one of them to use

having the "choose-you-own-background" option would be nice for new players who never got to see the previous backgrounds. Plus....you gotta admit. The new one is very ugly and the characters seem out-of-place.

Seconded, much as I like this one I do miss the old covenant one.

Would love to change the login screen too because good god that dodgy screenshot they used is really below par compared to the old artwork.

It makes strange noise too. Art is always amazing just not fan of the mushroom background for characters. I feel less immersed

Agreed. I'm a huge Lovecraft fan so I'm way more excited for Apocrypha than I am for Morrowind; I'd love to see a dark, foreboding background at login
