Cyrodiil is your tray of beautifully decorated cupcakes crashed to the floor with the piled-high frosting facing down. You still want them, you pick one up, scrape enough off of the top to seem good enough, and eat it. :'(
Fan of playing magblade since 2015. (PC NA)
    Might be joking in comments.

That's kinda PvP across the board in ESO. Phenomenal gameplay but so much is left on the table by the devs.

    Greetings everyone!

We've removed some posts from this thread as they violated our rules on baiting and spam. I've been played ESO for 6 years now, mainly PVE content, but after completing most of that I thought I'd give PVP a bit of a try as I thought it would freshen things up. How wrong i was....

Firstly, I was a bit shocked at the dreadful lag, daily disconnects, lost lobby connections, choppy audio when there's big battles, unresponsive controls - and the list goes on

Not only that, but the broken sets in the game, like Maras Balm and Dark convergence. I didnt realise that this was PVTD, player VS target dummies! I know the tank meta is the thing, but seeing 40-50 people not being able to take down 1 single player isnt PVP, its a complete farce.

Another thing is these crappy ball groups, which I thought ZOS were keen to discourage? I guess not seeing as they wander around almost completely immune to any kind of counter attack, roll over players to farm people for AP points, probably laughing out loud at the sheer ridiculousness of it all, which is rather silly considering the sets that were supposed to prevent these goons are now being used to their advantage.

Something else that I find odd, and that's these dreaded nightblade cheese builds, who often 1 shot players. Is this called PVP or PVI? player vs an invisible man? I get the NB is a cool class, but its pure garbage players can take someone down instantly, and that to me is an unfair advantage. Even casting magelight doesn't seem to do what it says as they return to stealth before the spell ends

Stuck in combat! Really? even when I'm about 1 million miles away from someone on the other side of the map? It gets a bit tiring going to Sheogoraths Cheese Land just to sort that out, and running on a map because I can't mount my horse......why is this still an issue despite years of people reporting this bug?

I have to say, my opinion of ESO has completely changed now...I actually took out a subscription for the first time a few months ago, but I won't be doing that again, nor buying anymore ZOS products, because in my opinion, while people plough money into it there's no incentive to fix this broken game that myself and millions of other have bought

    [snip]

    [edited for conspiracy theory]

40-50 people not being able to take down 1 target face-tanking them is not mathematically possible. These claims have been thrown around often but there isn't a single video that shows this or a build that can display this kind of survivability.

I have pvped since 2018 and have yet to come across a single instance of 50 vs 1 on the live servers.

It is possible to activate an ultimate such as Magma Armor on Dragon Knight which caps incoming damage at 3% of max health for 10 seconds which might be what you saw. But once those 10 seconds are up you die against that type of damage.

What did you do? Stop and count 50 people attacking 1 guy for 10 seconds?

That is a hell of a story.

The most annoying part of the unaddressed stuck in combat bug is that not even death is guaranteed to remove it. Respawn at the transitus and still can’t mount, read mail, etc.

It’s crazy how they let this go on for years unresolved.

If you used a ground effect that places a DoT on the target that keeps you in combat until it goes away.

If you put a HoT on someone or left a ground effect down that adds a HoT to someone those also stay in effect.

If you debuff someone that also keeps you in combat.

Or if you put a status effect on a player and it stays on them than you also stay in combat.

These are all things that keep players in combat.

Although there is a slight bit of exaggeration (1 player tanking 50 for example), I understand the sentiment of the OP since he/she is primarily a PvEr.

PvP is no longer the same. Don't get me wrong, the complaints about "tanks that can do damage" and unkillable ball groups have existed since the beginning, but the game has evolved to be more reliant on sets than ever.

Back then, you would have meta sets like 7th Legion + Warrior's Fury dominating stamina builds, but you weren't necessarily at a massive disadvantage if you decided to run something else like Clever Alchemist + Bone Pirate. You'd have a slight disadvantage in terms of min maxing, but it wasn't noticeable and you could perform very very well in off-meta gear.

That all changed though when the first wave of Mythics were introduced. Suddenly you HAD to slot Malacath, or you'd be at a massive disadvantage. It wasn't a case of "I can still compete even though I have slightly less stats", but a case of "I have to use Malacath or I will lose every fight".

Then came the proc set meta that dominated the PvP scene for 2+ years. Suddenly you just couldn't compete with a proc build anymore if you were using a stat build. It became a case of "I have to slot at least 1 proc or I will lose every fight against a proc set user".

Now? We have Rallying Cry, Mara's Balm, and a bunch of other stuffs that I could go on and on about. The game has evolved from "play how you want" into "play how you want if you're 100% casual, but you better slot X and Y sets if you are competitive even for the slightest bit".

I personally still run 100% stat sets, but I still slot a Mythic because it's mathematically better than a non mythic build. That's the kind of game that we're playing right now. It's 70% gear, 30% skill, and I think it won't change anytime soon.

People wonder why everyone complain so much, yet everyone keep playing CP campaign so much. Am I the only one who sees a contradiction here?

At least at the moment, Whitestake's Mayhem pretty much forces people in that would normally not pvp. This event has now happened twice in a row and just reminds me how busted pvp is. These people are going to experience the awful state of pvp and, like me, judge the entirety of pvp by what they experience there.

Furthermore, you are assuming that the people who regularly pvp outside of these events make up the majority of the player base. Far more likely is that the people who partake in ESO pvp make up a minority of players and it just looks like a lot because the game puts you all into the same map.

As a real world analogy, think back to the 1948 US election of Dewey vs Truman. All the reliable polls showed that Truman was going to lose the election by a landslide. However, the people doing the polls conducted it via telephone, something only a relatively small number of Americans had access to at that time. Because they took the sample from only select individuals they got a wildly inaccurate results and the nation was caught completely by surprised when he ended up winning. This is basically what you are doing with your analysis. You are electing Dewey for Emperor of Tamriel because you only asked the dedicated Cyrodil pvp'ers who they wanted.

Basically, it's all a matter of your perspective, and saying that 'everyone complains, yet everyone shows up' is only a contradiction because you choose to believe that 'everyone' is playing Cyrodil, Imperial City, or battlegrounds, whereas in reality it's probably a minority outside of special pvp events.

Generally speaking where zos went wrong, they catered to shrill minority and ignored their more silent majority. This leaves them with an dieing population. I have never seen pvp so under populated as no.

Microsoft as the new parent company better investigate soon or they just bought a lemon.

I have about 23k resistance on my hybrid stam sorc. I get called a tank by some players after i defeat them. Using well your active defense is not being a “tank”. That word gets thrown around way too much. I simply roll dodge and block the right stuff at the right time. Im able to 1vx vs more than 4-5 players sometimes and it must feel like i’m a tank to them because they are not built properly/dont have the right tools like a way to drop my block or catch me tru a dodge roll. (Turn evil, fossilize, binding javelin just to name a few)

Most of the times you just have to adapt and build around some metas and thats part of every pvp game. For example to counter maras balm i would just force proc it with elementals susceptibility (free spell) and like one other effect and just reapply it to get a 30 secs window where my opponent doesn’t have 1 of his 5 piece.

I always find it funny that ppl complain about the tank meta so much. Just go watch even the best meta players streams. You’ll see that they die pretty often like everybody does. Some things line up and just get you in this game.

So campaign WITHOUT all that problems described in 0 post isn't populated and campaign WITH all that problems heavy populated.

Does anyone, please, can explain me, how this can even possible?

Very simple the many set and co options create a wonderful experience in creating your build. The no cp campaign has much fewer options. People like choices i agree with your statement pointing out the craziness of the pvp population but we want choices the more the better and the cp camp offers these. Theory crafting single most fun about pvp.

lol I don't understand it either.

It's very simple. CP stinks, but the set restrictions in the No-CP campaign are far too limiting.

But the whole point of No-CP is to make it more skill-based, so having a limited amount of sets is a good thing.

PvP in the Campaigns has changed a lot from what it used to be when the game first launched. It used to be rare to see anyone with 30k health and now you’ve got damage dealers with 40k and up and healing has gotten so strong it takes hundreds of thousands of damage to kill these players in ball groups.

    Cyrodiil needs a core reset.
