What race do you think fits best to the new class arcanist besides dark or high elves?

I will surely create a new character with the new class when it's live.

I am sure most have in mind a dunmer or altmer for it or maybe even a breton.

But do you think other races might feel right for the new class?

What about a khajiit or argonian? A nord? Would they feel like folks that would seek and study dark secrets from books of Hermaeus Mora's library?

Daedric Princes have followers from all the races, in general Mora cultitsts arent gonna be your normal members of society, so, at least from my point of view, any race is pretty much an equal fit. That said, I'm personally planning to make an Orc Arcanist, if I get the chapter.

    I was going imperial.

The more I look at "Crux" the more in my head this is just another Molten Whip mechanic with the difference of having more visual component and other ways to consume stacks. The question becomes how many generators and spenders are there, it may turn into an all or nothing approach; mix matching between class skills and non-class skills. Until we see what it looks like in April, won't have a definitive answer.

My variety will run from Redguard (already planned before I heard about the companion) to Bosmer, Breton, and Altmer. And maybe a Khajiit and Imperial. I have numerous slots available including the two new ones with the chapter. I don't play Argonians, Nords or Orcs, and I'm not at all fond of Dunmer, though I have a couple at CP 160.

Already planned my first Arcanist going to be a Argonian. Any race can be a Arcanist, for what actually matter of is the individual's background not of their race, so yep other races will feel right for the new class.

Main is Blue-Thuxis, a Argonian stamSorc, whose also is a werewolf! 2nd main, Cobalt-Thuxis, a Argonian stamArc, an identical twin sister to Blue-Thuxis, even is a werewolf as well! some alts:
Nirn-Scale Rajthux (Argonian, Templar), Ros-Ei Nature-Thuxis (Argonian, Warden), Crimson-Thuxis (Argonian, DK), Bone-Thuxis Tharn (Argonian, Necro) Why Bone-Thuxis has Tharn as a last name:
The siblings were separated at a young age due to a Dres slaver raid, Blue, Cobalt, Ros-Ei & their mother were able to escape, Crimson & Bone weren't that lucky. Crimson was later "rescued" by some Orcs that later ambushed the House Dres Dunmers, unfortunately one Dunmer remained & sadly successfully brought the young Bone-Thuxis to the Dres plantation. Later an Imperial, a Tharn, bought Bone at a auction & later told he was free, the young Argonian sadly had no idea where to go & doesn't know if his family was still alive, so the Tharn adopted him into House Tharn. This family of Argonians finally reunited years later.
, Kenneth Clyde (Nord, Sorc), Selene Gray-Thuxis (Argonian, Nightblade), Urmanda (Orc, Warden)
Some ESO history: I originally started from PS4 NA during June 10, 2015, I did reached CP 810+ on there. I eventually kinda got tired of paying PS+, so during February 4, 2019 I started moving to PC NA. Also CP: 810+. Nowadays I play ESO PC mostly, while PS4 is dust.

I think any race can fit any class, it just depends on what you want the backstory and the build to be.

If I make an arcanist I'll probably make an orc, because I've had an orc character in mind for a while who was going to be a sorcerer and one reason I got put off making him is I don't like sorcerers that much. But I want to try the class out on the PTS before I make a final decision, rather than going off marketing hype.

As others have said, could be any race, whatever character concept or look you like. :) There are powerful mages from cultures traditionally more distrustful or disinterested in magic.

    Any of them, really.

Any character who delves into that sort of experimental, mysterious, forbidden magic is already an outcast of their society.

Just like the Necromancer, it's less about who would do it, and it's more about how they justify their actions. Are they just selfish and want that power for themselves? Do they think it will lead to a greater good for society? Do they think it's worth the risk?

Different characters will have all sorts of different perspectives, biases, grudges, passions, and lies they tell themselves.

I feel like any race can go for it, and anyone can write a story as to why they have those powers.

I'm trying something different for mine - instead of being a Hermaeus Mora cultist, my Arcanist is actually going to be someone who categorically rejects Mora. He's a Skaal shaman. But he ends up trapped in Apocrypha and the only way he can get out is to start using the Prince's own powers against him. Fortunately he's really smart and has a photographic memory, so deciphering spells off pages floating through the air is easy for him.

And then when he finally gets free of Apocrypha, he keeps the knowledge he has. And then his whole story is trying to keep the Skaal knowledge away from Herma-Mora while still being forced to interact with him. He leaves Solstheim, ends up going to find out more about the Demon of Knowledge, and then... well, I guess we'll see what Necrom has in store.

The dead ones. Death to all Daedra and their worshippers!

more seriously though, I'll probably do an Argonian or Khajiit depending on which I use to make a throw away character to do thieves guild and dark brotherhood on.

My first will be a Dunmer.
But I've also considered Orsimer and Nord for others.

Although, since I've been thinking harder about it in the last few minutes, it might be an opportunity for me to finally create an Altmer character that will stick.

Since this thread is only a couple of months old, figured I would revive it.

Now that we know more about the Arcanist class, have people's opinions changed on what race people are planning to use for their first Arcanist?!?

I was planning to go Dark Elf, since it would be easiest to switch between Magicka and Stamina builds. Plus, Dark Elf fits in well with the chapter. However, due to sustain issues and the Fatecarver focus, High Elf might be a better choice. Decisions... decisions.

I feel like Bretons work really well- their original affinity for conjuration magic must lend at least passing familiarity with the Daedra, and perhaps many amongst their most accomplished mages traffick with them as their primary source of power.

Besides, inasmuch as the real-world inspirations of races are a thing, while the High Elves can have their High Fantasy fireball slinging, I like the idea of the medieval mage cloistered in the bowels of some ruined tower gaining their power by making bargains with the daedric entities by summoning them on their name-days according to lost and forbidden grimoirs full of dark and twisted secrets.

Altmer and Nord are probably the toughest sell. Nords consider Herma-Mora an adversary, and Altmer despise Daedra in general, even more so than the other people of Tamriel.

Bosmer have cults for Herma-Mora, although they claim he's not a Daedric Prince. Honest.

But those are just general considerations from a lore perspective. Any individual could be a follower of a Daedric Prince. Even an Imga.

Myself I'll make an Orc and if I like the class, maybe a Bosmer.

I feel like whatever you want, honestly.

I'm all about writing backstories for my character, and any race could have a reason to be a Hermaeus Mora follower. Sure, some races may be more inclined to do so, but anyone could have a reason to do so if you're creative enough.

I'm being clever with mine and making it so mine isn't a follower of Hermaeus Mora. He's Skaal so he actually is antagonistic towards him, but he ends up trapped in Apocrypha and the only way he can survive is to start using the Prince's skills against him. At least he's got a photographic memory so he picks it up right away. He eventually finds a way out, but then the Demon of Knowledge has his eye on him and he goes into exile to protect his family and find out more about Herma-Mora. And all the while, he's trying to keep the Skaal secrets from him.
...which, if anyone's played the Skyrim DLC, we can see he doesn't ever give up his secrets.
      c146kz4cyuqt.png

I love coming up with backstories.
