What is the point in a new class?

Ok the visuals are nice ect... But why people would want a new class? How it can be a "most requested feature"?

It offer nothing for old characters, even card game and companions do. It show us some good spells but nothing to use and build our own character with.

It could be a new skill line linked with Hermaeus Mora and usable by everybody like the psijics. Instead it's just a new thing for rerollers. (And maybe some news buff/debuff for 12 players)

And with this new class we can officialy say the spellcrafting will never be a thing in ESO. It was the perfect moment for it (no skills since long time, Hermaeus Mora themed, build hybrydation)

I agree. A new class adds nothing but new animation visuals. Especially since everyone will just wear the same builds

Spell crafting was never going to be a thing. People got all excited about it, and I agree it sounds amazing, but all it does it add uncontrollable nuance to a game they're already struggling to balance.

At most the spell crafting thing was going to manifest as a couple extra morphs of skills (decided by them,) that players could buy/build/find via some new antiquities feature. If you thought for a moment you were going to make your own spells do whatever you want then you were sorely mistaken.

Adding a new class is nice. A new guild would've been cool. A new weapon was my personal wish... But a new class is nice.

On Fakebook people are always whining about a new class. This will shut them up for a while.

For me, that's the point of a new class. :p

That was my thought exactly, there would be broke builds like never before. Too complicated with the number of sets and combat mechanics already in the game.

But we want spellcrafting for the idea of news skills. Most of us ; 1: don't think we will create uniques spells. 2: only want to have more skill to use for our characters.

To create a new experience. I mean all MMO's are going to have metas. I couldn't be more excited to play a new healer, tank, and dps. I really like the theme. I think it adds a lot to be desired. It will also bring in new players and old. People have been asking for a new class for a while. Many have downright said it's impossible. I think it brings a lot to the game that people want but, I get what your saying. Personally one of the things I'm most excited about though.

It sells chapters. They will make it just OP enough that all the try-hards will have to have it, the RPers have already wet themselves just by mentioning a new class, and it will then get gradually nerfed over the next year or so.

Spell crafting is a horrible idea and the deadest horse in ESO, stop beating it. A new class at least has the advantage of being far easier to balance then spellcrafting ever would be. I would also much rather level 2 new Arcanists than level spell crafting on 18 toons. It would be the psijic nightmare all over again. Skills you want to have, locked behind either a massive grind or pay wall. A new class is so much better, it's not even close.

I'm so tired of seeing this about spellcrafting. It's not literally make whatever thing you want with 100% freedom. Think of it like each spell has 6 morphs such as AOE, enduring, single target, etc. It's basically a new set of skills the dev already know about and have worked on. It would be balanced and add a huge amount of uniqueness ro the games. Please watch Hack the Minotaurs vid on it and share that video so people so saying the wrong stuff about spellcrafting

A new class would be an amazing feature if they allowed class swapping (either paid or in-game).

This expansion makes class swapping Lore Friendly. It was Hermaeus Mora that let you respec in Skyrim after all and he is always willing to trade knowledge for other knowledge.

But yeah... with no way to access it on existing characters it is basically a dead feature to a large percent of the playerbase and Necrom will effectively add LESS than High Isle to the game for those players.

I personally wanted some way better than a new class. Maybe multiple new skill lines for everyone.

I don't mind a new class but the fact it is tied to a Daedric Prince is one of the dumbest choices in my opinion. It just feels off and very out of place in ESO

This is why ZOS pretended a new class was the most requested feature:

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    - Mount Learning (180 days) (Or paying ZOS more money for books)
    - Trait Crafting Learning (3 months) (Or paying ZOS more money for scrolls to reduce the time)
    - Paying ZOS more money to buy crystal shards to get all skill points
    - Paying ZOS more money to learn all old guild skill lines

I’d much rather have new weapons over new classes namely crosssbows, 1H+destruction and spears. Classes are a existing thing so I wasn’t really thinking of that as a “new” feature but that’s just semantics on my part. But classes honestly kind of feel the same to me maybe the combo system is different but I’m not expecting much of a departure.

A new class ? Won't be buying it. I have enough fun on the ones already in the game. However if they added a new system that would be encorperated into all the classes such as spellcrafting then I'd buy it simply because it can be used on all classes.

A month ago it would've been overly pessimistic and baseless. Which is why I steered clear of the spell crafting threads-- I didn't want to break any hearts.

Not everything released is for everyone. You can take this threadtitle, and insert anything the person dislikes. Many are happy with a new class, like I am. Stop being so negative! A new class is always welcome.

As someone who plays through overland and dungeons on all classes, the arcanist will be one of them! And I love making new characters, so that is a plus.

PS: For those complaining about getting a new character up to speed... this is a game, relax and do it slowly bit by bit. There is no need to rush or force yourself to do all those things. Enjoy the journey.
PPS: For those wondering, I read we also get two new character slots when buying the new chapter/class.

Lol no. Your answer would be simply that it’s not happening. You went on to explain why it isn’t happening as if you know the reasons. Reasons which are laughable as well. Spellcrafting wouldn’t be hard to implement, it just takes work.

for at least 2 years I have seen an absolute ton of "why aren't we getting new classes" or "instead of companions/a card game we should have gotten a new class" threads here. I didn't see many spell crafting threads.
I've seen a bunch of those threads in recent weeks but that's kind of it. Spell crafting may be one of the most heavily requested features right now but probably not overall.
I honestly suspect it's just recency bias given that at the beginning of the month there were a huge amount of requests for veteran overland and it seemed to be the most requested feature but now it doesn't really seem to be.

But this COULD be for everybody. All they need to do is add a way for anybody to change their class if they want.

Some people (like yourself) enjoy making multiple characters and playing through content on all of them. That's great. You can still do that with class changing existing. It doesn't negatively impact you at all.

Some people though, like myself, do not. At least for this kind of game. In a game like Diablo or WoW, sure... but not here. In this game, your actions impact the places you visit and people react to you differently depending on if you have dome something or not, and sometimes even depending on HOW you did something. It isn't about getting a new character up to speed. That's easy. It's about continuing the journey that you have been taking with your character through the world.

Starting a new character resets the entire world state. It makes everything I have done over the last decade in Tamriel go away. It isn't a viable option for playing the new class, even if it IS exciting, for people like me. And it would be SO easy for ZOS to allow us to also enjoy this new feature without it hurting anybody else (for those worried that class change will leas to FOTM chasers just swapping to the 'best' class in competitive play... they already can and do. Getting a new character to a playable state MECHANICALLY is super fast and easy).

What does it mean? That I'll probably save money on ESO again this year and maybe buy this chapter at a discount.

Dear ZOS it's not a matter of a "new class" if it's not among the ones people have asked for?

It's another dark themed class it's kind of depressing at this point.

I hope it does well tho or else this game is gonna shut down.

The game isn't fun. Overland content is trivial and the only thing that keeps me going is Cyrodill and I haven't played this game in over a year logging in for the first time for a half hour the other day because Cyrodill is so damn laggy.

Not sure how you find spending 6 months to catch up training in everything or spending more cash to level up guild skillines and get skill points is fun or productive especially when overland offers no challenge (including World Bosses). Really whats the point of leveling a new class over the same boring lifeless non challenging content ontop of doing the 6 month grind.

I also don't understand how people play alts. One character to do everything is all I have ever done so essentially anytime they release a new class I only get half the content but to each their own.

I check back in Q4 with the new system.
