Rewards from dragon kills are pathetic

This one irks me to no end. WHY would people waste their time killing dragon only to receive crappy green rewards and even worse items from the dragon bag (or whatever it's called)? I keep forgetting how worthless fighting dragons really is and the upcoming event is NOT something I look forward to. Dragon fights should have GREAT rewards so more people find it worth spending their time in Elsweyr but what we're getting is beyond insulting!

Just spent 30 minutes helping a few low level players (yes, newer players) with a dragon in Northern Elsweyr and I wanted to rip my hair off because of how pointless our effort was. HOW and WHY hasn't ZOS done anything about this? They've had YEARS to make dragon fights worth it!! These zones are dead, I see maybe 2-3 people when riding around, only new players. This is embarrassing, and ZOS should be the ones feeling this embarrassment.

FIX DRAGON DROPS, PLEASE!!! Make it worth our time to waste 30-60 minutes fighting them!

The best thing from dragon kills are the rheum, blood, and bile (rheum obv the best drop)

some may want document satchels as they can have treasure maps from new zones, pardon editcs, etc.

Yep, this. Alchemy ingredients plus possible furnishing plans make this my favourite world event.

I don't kill the dragons for the rewards but for the experience of working together in a random group. (The Shimmering Sand is a nice bonus though.) It is as close to WoW's LFR as I have been able to find. It reminds me of the special events which involve killing world bosses, I love that. Just randomly coming together to complete a task and then everyone goes their separate ways.

I like the fights, and I've never been in my own against one - whenever I've put out a request for help, people have turned up.

Also the Stained Glass of Lunar Phases, is imho, a stunning furniture piece - I never get tired of walking into my house and standing under the projection. It's the reason I wanted the hourglass.

As dolmens and such go, the rewards seem decent to me. Is Elsweyr that much quieter than Western Skyrim?

Of the various dolmen-type systems, I like dragons and the original dolmens themselves the best as both had that wow factor when first encountering them! And after dying a lot to dragons with my early damage dealers, bringing a tank to the fight and going face to face — that was something! Personally, I think the rewards are alright for the time and effort it takes.

Most people farming dragons does so in southern Elseweyr because shorter ride distance.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I guess it all depends on what each person finds of "value" or considers "great"

For me, I find that the rewards dropped are very valuable. The daily dragon reward coffer too.
I make some very nice sales on dragon rheum, gear and jewelry drops. And before you scoff go look at how much something like epic Crafty's with Impen or Divines is going for, 5-figures EASY. Motif pages also, Pellitine and Anequina sell for good prices yet.

Treasure maps also. Either in the value of what you dig up(to sell or decon for mats) or selling the map itself if it's for a newer zone and especially if there is a lead drop chance in a new zone chest.
The dragon's treasure items sell for ok gold and what gear isn't worth selling breaks down into good components for crafting or selling. Shimmering Sand is a big one.

It would be nice if some of the rarer drops like paintings, etc would drop more frequently. But I spose the odds of finding an intact painting in a Dragon's gut would be low anyway lol.

Maybe adding some Lead drops other than the Stained Glass of the Lunar Phases would be nice too.
Don't get me wrong, its a beautiful mythic. But as of last night I have 32 of the damn things, not counting the few leads I got that I intentionally left to expire. I wish I could give the item to others, it feels wrong to destroy them so I just keep collecting. Thinking about making a geodesic dome house with them.

    Next, the fight time?
I've never been to a dragon fight that lasted 60 minutes? I've been in some long ones, maaaybe 25 minutes? But an hour, good gods no. On average with a regular zone group it takes 5-10 minutes.
If I ever finally solo one then maybe I could see it taking 30-60 mins but that will likely never happen bcuz:
A ) Part of that success is based on luck as far as what spells the dragon uses and
B ) someone usually shows up and jumps in to help.
But if it seems like the dragon's health isn't dropping steadily between each Fly -> Land sequence then ask in zone for backup. People will come. It's pretty cool too in a very "on the first light of the fifth day" kind of way

Population may also be the time of day or server\platform you are on.
For for me on PC\NA starting about Noon EST, N. Elsweyr has a fair number of ppl running about, fighting dragons, WBs, etc.
The number increases into the evening, with a slowdown around 10p - Midnight and then the numbers seem to climb again. Time zones I assume.
    Weekends are busier still.

A few times since the new year I've found a very large organized group farming dragons, this is in N. Elsweyr btw. IDK if it's a guild or some of the regulars from S. Elsweyr got bored lol.

I start nearly every game session by grabbing the dragon daily for the XP, loot and skill training, feels very worth the effort.

During the Season of the Dragon two things will change tho: zone population is going to get claustrophobia-levels of huge and the trade values of many of the items above will drop due the market becoming glutted with them.

That said, there is no better time to farm dragons and stock up on all those good mats, plus fights will be stupid-easy and fast.
I recall last year dragons not lasting even one minute and often not being able to get TO the fights in time before they dropped. And I know all the quickest ways to get there. So it gets a bit nuts, TBH I'm very happiest after the event ends and everyone gets the heck out of my backyard ;)

Hi! I'm here reading this. If you could elaborate, that would be great. It would be even better if a separate thread could be made to highlight this. Happy to get these details over to the team.

People fight dragons because it is fun. I also use them to test builds, get counterfeit writs if I run out, get Rheum, blood, & bile, and also appreciate the occasional dragon treasure or transmute gem. The rewards aren't that bad to me (as long as you aren't dying all the time)!

If you think the rewards are poor, try Harrowstorms!

I think the problem is that they give out rewards suitable for large groups that kill the creature in a matter of seconds. Not the opposite which is for a few or solo people fighting a hard epic fight for many mins and then being insulted by said reward. Apart from that, the other rewards and probably the intended MAIN rewards are for the daily quests of killing dragons - as you will see in the upcoming event.

So yeah, sadly I feel the OP's dismay, but that's how it is and why outside of events people really bother unless they REALLY want to get rid of an achievement or 2 and like NAO!

Harrowstorm rewards are pretty boring, true, but you still have a chance to get document pouches with furnishing plans iirc. I think the worst would be abyssal geysers and volcanic vents. Unless I've just been incredibly unlucky, but the volcanic vents have dropped nothing I could't get from literally anywhere else.

Dragons are my favorite piece of openworld content and I enjoy them so much that the rewards have never really bothered me haha but I do think that loot in general in this game feels very meh. I'd just be happy if things dropped more gold/more pricey items to vendor. It's lowkey boring that my character only feels properly rewarded when someone buys an overpriced chair I made off of a guild trader.

I was thinking that myself when I saw the title.

I've lost count of how many times I thought I'd get something good for killing an enemy, a tough one in particular, especially if I'm able to solo it without interruption.... only to get a handful of gold and weapon/armour that's useless to the character build I'm using.

Except for Bosses I think the drops in this game are fine. Certainly, better than in GW2 anyway. Compared to something like Runescape tho, no that's still the king in my book for drops.

So many millions I made from whip drops and other goodies. Ah the good old days of mmos. :D

I currently mainly play Fallout 76, and it feels a lot more rewarding than ESO. They use a scoreboard, you can get 100 scores, 1 for several daily and weekly tasks. You will get all 100 in 45-90 days depending on how much you play, 90 days cover a season, a thematic "Event".
Rewards include dyes for weapons and armor, cool furniture like trucks (as stalls), a tree with a wheel to swing in, lamps etc.
Lot of this is something you just would get as crownstore items in ESO.

Despite these nice rewards, that keep my interest in repeatable content alive, I still DO buy additional items in the atomic shop. More housing slots (camps), costumes (like in ESO).
So making repeatable gameplay more interesting offering great rewards, does not mean the crownstore would no longer give profit.
So I wish, ESO would run a similar strategy, this might attract me to spend more time again (and crowns).

My sole compliant about dragons is we still need 3 kills for the daily quest, even after Harrowstorms got reduced to 1 long ago.

So now, all other similar content only need 1 kill for their respective daily - harrowstorm dailies in western Skyrim, The Reach, vents in High Isle, Galen, etc. but dragon daily still needs 3.

On top of that, dragons take longer than harrowstorms and vents, and still stuck at needing x3 the requirement. Seems zos will never adjust this given the reduction to Harrowstorms was done years ago but dragons ignored.
