You used to be able able to dodge the burning dot from cold fire, but they took that away recently too.

are you saying you can dodge the initial hit of a fire ballista but still be hit by the fire dot?

yes, ive had it happen many times, where i will dodge the direct dmg hit from the ballista but still have the dot on me

If you had a cold fire dot on you, you could dodge the tics if you kept dodging. But not any more.

Anyone can take DOT damage from siege after not being affected by the initial hit. Many times I've seen people ride or run or blink into the AOE and eat a tick. It's a ground DOT after all.

the fact that the ballista hit can be dodged sounds unintended as it's an aoe. it sounds like the impact causes an aoe, then they have a second aoe coded in to apply the dot. I don't think they'll do anything about that.

As for the dodging of the dot tick issue, i don't see that returning either. Stop Drop and Roll isn't a game mechanic to get rid of fire.

Now, if you're not seeing the AOE and are getting hit by a ballista that is on-grid with you, that sounds like a bug

If you are getting hit by a ballista that is itself invisible, again that's a bug

but if you are getting hit by a ballista that is not on-grid with you, then that sounds like a game limitation or exploit. Anyone intentionally abusing exploits would likely be punished, and that is reportable, though the person exploiting might not know that they are exploiting (they might just be firing from such a distance that they know there's a fight there, but are unable/unwilling to participate). It's also not a good idea to fight in range of a keep and their defenses, but out of range of seeing who is on the wall- so again, if this is the case, it's preventable to an extent- but anyone continuously abusing this line of sight issue would likely be seen as an exploit abuser to support.

The problem is you can't see that there's anything on the floor. Lately It's stealth AOE so you don't even know you're standing in stupid. I have it set to show AOE in hot pink and I will drop in areas that are not pink, yet plainly have ground dots.

Just tested some things in the base. Malacath seems to work. Lighting staff too. And CP too.

You tested fake siege on fake targets. Try real ones on real ones.

The ticks seem longer. I'm almost out of magicka after using my matriarch heal so many times after being hit by a cold fire ballista. It used to be enough to heal myself 2-3 times but I keep having to go 7-9 times now. I'll get hit with another cold fire ballista while healing and this makes it nigh impossible to use siege, atleast for me.

And no, I'm not a vampire.

the situation that usually happens is i see the circle on the ground from the siege getting larger and attempt to dodge roll to get out before impact (mostly habit), but the siege hits the ground while im still in the area during the dodge roll, and notice i didnt take dmg from the bolt but i still have the dot on me (for reference i run in a semi brawler NB that is certainly not running meta gear, so i need to hit heals to make it through the dot ticks, but its easier to heal through the ticks if i didnt get hit by the initial bolt too)

i usually try to avoid the dmg entirely by not being in the area but sometimes its not possible or im near the edge and try to dodge roll since it covers more ground than normal sprinting

This is due to Elf Bane. Other things that can buff this ontop is deadly, plaguebreak. Vicious Death, Occult CP... Being a necro. Im sure I missed some.
try jumping before impact. You get the initial hit of the siege, but the dot in on the ground and missed.

I don't think it is a case of doing more damage. I think it is a case of lag obscuring the true timing of when the the effect lands on you, alongside making it hard to use skills, or movement, as a reaction to getting hit. When you have to hit a purge synergy, or your healing skill, 3+ times for it to register, siege are going to be a larger problem.

i hate the fact that this is most likely the correct answer...

Tab targeting makes jumping irrelevant. Also, you can't jump out of ground DOTs, as they have an upward range (suspend a dummy in air and test for yourself). And jumping lowers your maximum movement speed to 100% unless hacking, so you aren't avoiding stuns or getting out of range faster. But that's a subject for one of the many other threads about it. :)
