Oakensoul needs to be disabled in PVP. It messed too much with the ebb and flow of it that you literally have two classes of play: oaken builds vs non oaken builds.
They did a ninja nerf on Caluurion's Legacy without any warning or announcement when it was at the gold vendor the week before patch, communication was kinda sucky.
They seemed to only listen to feedback which made people too OP rather than feedback about how bad the u35 patch was, Mara's Balm was the exception to this because we had many people saying how broken/op it was and they released it in the broken/op state anyways.
Rush of Agony not nerfed, they put in a special ruleset for it for no reason tbh. Pull immunity should be a thing but it isnt, we get to be tossed around like yo-yos.
Warden slab in BGs makes playing ranged anything suck butt. This damage shield needs to be reworked, it's far more deadly than the sorc's stun variant which doesnt even block damage. The ice effect isn't instantly break-freeable and the visual effect that it hits you is minimal- you have to notice the projectile coming at you and not dodge and you gradually lose control of your character before you can break free. On top of this, they can fully block the damage of a single person hitting them as the shield is spammable and blocks 3 ranged projectiles, and you can only manage 2 ranged projectiles in a gcd- then you have to contend with being stunned. Not good design imo,
My opinion: they should add in a damage-through-damage shield mechanic and buff shields to their previous strength. I still got no clue why warden DS can cover their whole HP bar in BGs with 1 ability.
Sorc pets still suck butt in pvp, warden not much better.
Deathmatch BG pvp weekend was quite fun, all the rest sucked butt due to coinciding with the tank meta and being objective-based in a no-CP setting.
Cyro performance is butt despite people swearing it's so much better. BG and IC sometimes your character won't do what you tell it to do as well. I have a feeling some people who post don't play the game at all. The poll results don't lie despite these people lying to themselves and others. Maybe heals need more limitations on number being applied, while the heal amount a player can send out isn't halved from battle spirit. Less processing is probably better.
Was going to give it a 3/10, but my main (magsorc) got gutted because of their mistakes and oversights.
They forgot to fix a set that wasn't working as intended (savage werewolf) and had 1 overtuned stamina morph (crystal weapon) which allowed 1 specific stamina build of sorc (bowsorc) to become very strong.
Then they also nerfed everything else in the class because they deliberately released oakensoul in a completely overpowered state (despite other classes abusing oaken even harder and not getting anywhere near as heavy handed nerfs as sorc got as a result, looking at dk/necro/nb).
They also nerfed the most expensive burst skill in the game (mines, at 5400 magicka cost at base, wth) because it could be cheesed with dark convergence on a niche build that almost nobody ran due to it requiring a very precise locations and well timed set up to pull off, despite other classes having multiple easier and stronger convergence triggers (colossus, boneyard, standard) that did a lot more damage, much easier to use and were far more common in pvp.
The reasons it got 1 and not 0 (outside of 0 not being an option), frost wardens got buffed (although they shouldn't have forced frost staff on it, I still appreciate that frostden got something) and magicka sorcerer was at least fun to play at the start of the year in U33 (not overpowered in the slightest, just fun).
- weaving in pvp (hate that)
- unable to see which gear my opponent using and even his class because ppl use outfits and costumes in pvp
- broken balance, ppl can sign for pvp from 10 lvl but they fight against 10-49lvl ppl with more skills, passives and gear with no chance to win. Broken OP classes like Warden with top healing and damage compared to others.
- "pvp" gear is useless so ppl need to grind PVE to be competiteve in pvp
- no new pvp maps since 2018?
1/10 for 2022
I pvp in cyro ps4 na.
well... I did.
honestly, eso pvp doesn't need any new stuff. If the stuff we have worked, it would be great. If what we have worked, there would be a Q so long this post would be a poll about long Q times.
Also,
cutting the IC event was weak sauce. Weeeeeaaaaak sauce
I was so impressed with PvP at console launch. Sure, it was a pain getting smashed by maxed out PC transfers, and it had the same technical hiccups that any game of this scale would have, but it really captured the promise of "massively multiplayer".
My first early impressions of the pvp zone were enormous fights at bridges and keeps mixed with wondering the outskirts of the zone and being amazed with how much space had been created for PvP. The idea of PvP in an Elder Scrolls game was so full of potential and it seemed like the development team was ready to use all this space to really flesh out this new way of experiencing Tamriel. They had a strong base for active combat, and I could see the potential for great combat tracking and metrics and rewards along with an evolution of their first pass at AvAvA scoring...it was all there and ready to be fine tuned to greatness.
Since that initial excitement, it's been a long, disappointing road of neglect, half-baked ideas and half-hearted efforts. The potential was wasted on a team, possibly due to some personnel changes, that didn't have any real interest in developing ESO PvP to its fullest, if at all.
>bad meta
>no new pvp content
>broken defensive sets
>no good offensive sets
>UNPLAYABLE cyrodiil
>pvp rewards are useless
>BG's are also bad cant even play with friend because queue tooks 2 hours
4 - for hope. But the impossiblity to play due to the constant lag and technical issues makes it a fairly sour experience. Sad, because the entire base-game story is meant to lead to Cyrodiil, and the general idea of pvp. I think there was enough pve content released over the years, and there are stories and content out there to keep that general crowd busy long enough. Why not create a new story pvp related, and do not forget your origins. This past year's story with the whole peace idea felt almost like a declaration from the devs of ditching entirely Cyrodiil and all that side of the game. I think the ignorance displayed towards the pvp aspect of the game ( without which no proper mmo should exist) needs to be addressed in a more serious manner than the bits and crumbles it has been lured with thus far. To make up for this lack of content, EACH new pve content release should come with a bit of pvp attached to it, in whatever form, if not for anything else but for the self-respect for one's own ... work. You started it so - why not continue it? Not many people are attracted to it? I believe every single player has that curiosity roaming in the back of their mind. All you need to do is keep it alive. That being said, I believe half of those who choose never to touch pvp are more scared of the constant negative inputs of bad performance than anything else. Fear in general? Why I'm the biggest coward into existence - and I grew to love pvp!
I went into Cyro today & my goal was to land at least one 2H heavy attack on an enemy player. 2.5 hours later.... zero heavy attacks landed. I saw plenty of heavy attack animation windup... never saw any damage numbers. sad times.

By design, of course, as ZOS nerfed light attack for all and buffed heavy attack for ranged users (in PvP.) They are aware that melee heavies are practically worthless against mobile players. Yet another strike against Update 35.
My rating is entirely carried by the few weeks after the server upgrades. We were given an amazing glimpse of what cyrodiil can be, with no lag, no skill delays, no being stuck in combat, just smooth snappy combat and battles. It was wonderful, and exactly what we’ve been wanting for so long.
For those of you not on PC NA who never got to experience it, don’t despair. It didn’t last, and performance is as bad as ever.
But the entire year was tainted by terribly imbalanced sets and combat “balance” whiplash, in addition to the typically poor performance. Dark Convergence everywhere, pre-nerf Oakensoul, and pre-nerf Mara’s Balm, and probably others I’m not even remembering. And that’s not even factoring in how many builds they broke with U35, which was the final straw for me.
In all, it was a year of un-fun metas and manic development.
Edited to remove references to garbage I thought was 2022 but was actually late last year.

I calculated my choice on a point based system.... I added a 1 because there was a time where I chose to embrace the Oakensoul Ring and ended up having a lot of fun. Didn't realize how tedious having to manage buffs was until I got to play without doing it. It also brought my magsorc back to almost how powerful she was before Greymoor.... not fully, but it's closest I've gotten since. Really though, I actually do not like that item at all and thought it was pretty OP.... I'd even say game breaking from a solo/small scale PvP perspective. Then any other combat changes to the game that had any affect on PvP this year were actually total garbage and zeroes even on their own so yep.... it's just a 2.
Same old same old. Over buffs, over nerfs, questionable performance. I'd put this year on par with every other year, and can't honestly rate it less than 5 because if it were less than 5 I wouldn't be playing.
It's the only game I play-- I play it 2 hours a day-- I have a lot of fun doing it.
My myriad characters, gear sets, and ways to pvp continue to keep me interested and make me feel like today wasn't the same as yesterday. That's what I've always liked about mmo pvp and even though this game has obvious problems I would be putting on a front if I didn't admit it's my favorite.
