Manners and friendlyness of the eso community

I am totally fine with the current friendlyness of the community.
Non-toxic behavior itself is good enough for PUG. Warm words at the start/end of a run are a pleasant bonus for smooth run, but really they're not neccessary. I can enjoy a good run in a silence either.

Another point about silent players is simple lack of confidence in English. As I'm not a native speaker, I asked my friends about their communication in PUG. Many of them are usually not sure what to say or just not fast enough. Also some cultures don't include so many 'Hi' and 'Thanks' as in English. It will be the next step to manage for my friends after they raise their speaking level :)
So it is not so much about manners I think. It is more about different cultures and languages.

It just dawned on me what for me is the best example why I like the community in-game: I guess compared to the average player I spend a lot of time just roaming a zone and harvesting. I like the visuals, there is always some need for mats and I am too distracted by other tasks to do other activities.

I happens maybe 2-3 times a month that someone steals "my" loot, be it a chest, psijic portal etc. In ESO, at least on PC EU, people don't steal stuff. If they see someone running for a node or chest and he/she is closer than they are, they abort and move on. If someone is fighting some mobs at a chest, they either don't engage (most of the time) or they help kill the mobs and then move on. In my experience it is extremely rare that someone would grab the chest while you fight the mobs.
And I think compared to other MMORPGs this is the area that best shows the quality of the ESO community.

It doesnt affect my enjoyment of playing eso, so i dont care.
I don’t want to waste my time on manners, not to mention the fact that, in principle, I play this game mostly solo and try not to cooperate with players, especially random ones

while it doesn't affect my enjoyment, the game also doesn't reward you for being nice to others or for your completion rate on undaunted matchmade queues, or allow you to rate others performance like other games, so I feel it doesn't matter to the community staff team even if you could prove there's room for improvement. I don't suppose they have staff who could monitor such systems regardless.

    Hello friends,

as an oldschool player i often miss some good manners of players in game. For example it should totally common sense to thank someone if he/she comes to help you out with a boss after you asked for help in the chat. Maybe a more debatable behaviour is to greet the other players in a dungeon group at the beginning and say "goodbye" or "thanks for the run" afterwards.

Nowadays it feels like noone says anything at all and leaves the group as fast as possible after the dungeon is finished. It should be important to be a good rolemodel for new players, since the world of elderscrolls is more than just a simple videogame to a lot of players (including me).

Do you have the same experience lately or are my expectations maybe simply too high?

Maybe expand your idea of "good manners" and "good behavior" a bit? Or does it only count if you're doing bosses or dungeons.... I ask if any new players are around, and if someone replies, I switch to whisper and ask if they'd like crafted armor, need gold for bank/inventory space, want to be a werewolf, need alchemy potions, food, or stuff to decon to level crafting. I'm not so much into group stuff and avoid pvp like its weaponized plague. I'd like to think helping new players is "good behavior" and makes for a friendly community. If its only group runs, then I truly suck at the community thing.

Recently players using Asian language computers are flooding NA Chat. IMHO it is extremely rude to access a public chat and cut a large number of players out of the conversation, knowing full well that most people on the server can Not read the language you are posting. Not to mention the Chat box being so small, you can't follow English language discussions. NA should be for players to communicate in standard NA languages.

Its irritating to have to ignore every Asian source. And when you make a comment, they become even more rude.

Consideration for others and Manners are a thing of the past.

I'm very surprised at this comment. NA is the location of the server and is the best of the two options for a larger population than just the US and Canada. Trying to enforce a language that not everyone speaks is not friendly in my opinion and you should be considerate of players in non English speaking countries rather than trying to stop them from talking. I play on PS EU where there are a large number of languages spoken and typed, its just the nature of the game

Personally, I'd suggest that ESO install a language translator, that you can toggle on and off, so that everyone can talk in game to whoever they want ..... but that's me ..... languages don't bother me, and I love the idea of sharing a genre I love with as many people as possible .......

That would be awesome and probably funny with the way some translation tools work!

I recently came back to my PC game (and this forum) and have noticed a big difference. The PC game seems more like the Playstation one now with little chat and a lot pf speed-runners doing stuff. I find too that as I write a greeting, the other players are already gone.

I don't honestly know if I'll stay on PC after my sub is up and at least on the Playstation, you have a headset and if you leave yourself on mute, it's a commonly accepted way to say 'I just don't want to chat'

I tend to play solo now and I play 'in character' even as a solo.

Definitely not. The NA server is not located in North America just so that English speakers can use it, there are 2 servers purely to spread the overall load. You should expect players of various native languages to be playing on both servers, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I try to be friendly but not too friendly. Friendliness a gray area, some are creeped out by it if you cross the unknown, unseen line. Are manners more universal? I just try to be polite when I need to acknowledge group members and upon leaving group.

Um, wow. You realize that the North American servers are also the best bet for players in central and south America as well right? Typically they don't speak English either since it isn't their native language. Nobody should be forced to speak a language they don't normally speak or may not even know just because of their server.

I have noticed an uptick in a certain language being used, and I admit it does make me a little uncomfortable due to real world issues. It's problematic for me to even think this, because I'm usually a live and let live sort of person (and I LOVE multiculturalism), but I reside in the general geographic region and this is an uncomfortable reminder of the tensions we face. I suppose this is unfortunately the era in which we live, and these issues are global. I'll stop here to avoid derailing the topic.

I run one RD most days. Seems most players have an initial greeting. Might be because I say "hey" if no one else starts and most ppl follow. I do see most games end with tyfg or gg.

Wouldn't say you make a lot of lasting connections in RD's but I find the players mostly pleasant and have had very very few exceptions. Probably the most problematic situation is someone queing tank and .. they are not. In normals, it is sometimes pointed out. But I tell ppl to wait and see how first boss goes. Especially in non DLC. And we finish the run.

No, just no. I mean just compare the community in ESO to the one in let's say WoW and the difference is like night and day.

 NA has been the home for the Japanese players since they launched the Japanese language version of the game.
