How is the ESO pvp doing?

LoveForElderScrolls
I've been away from the game because I had to play the real life game instead. How is it looking in pvp? Are there still large battles? Are there still arguments in pvp chat that kept us entertained? I'm trying to come back soon...

Play for 20-30 min a month and get 50 transmutes. No other reason unless you like bad pchat and ball group style fighting. Watching chick flicks on netflix is more exciting.

    Its dead. Boring and dead.
I wish cyro became chapter zone with all that "after the war" questlines and @ZOS will make something new, up to date and balanced. Like Cyro-from-2014.

    PVP is in rough shape.

There hasn't been any new content in 3 years and 9 months (when the last BG map was added).

The balance is heavily in favor of healing/mitigation at the moment, which has resulted in a very tanky meta where it is difficult (or impossible) to kill many players while on your own.

If you're on any server other than PCNA, the game is unplayable. It is so insanely laggy on every other server any time there is population that you genuinely cannot PVP in cyrodiil.

Even on PC NA, with our new server hardware, the cyro campaigns have been extremely laggy every single night since U36 dropped. There is noticeable skill delay once the campaigns fill, that doesn't go away until they start to lose population.

Either zenimax really messed something up in U36 in terms of cyrodiil performance, or the server capacity for cyrodiil was reduced. Either way, it is a very concerning indicator for the future of the game.

Not that anybody here is wrong... But I do feel the need to tell you my side.

I'm on Xbox NA, for starters. Ive been playing the blackreach campaign lately which is normally 2 bars all around. I have 5 year roots in ravenwatch which is a little dead but fun during primetime. I also play battlegrounds frequently.

All three of these work well for me. Minimal lag to zero lag (mid-gen console, normal homeowner internet,) the game is very fun. I repeat very fun and very playable.

There is a tank meta but not everybody knows about it. With a well built toon you can still kill people-- the majority of people in fact. When you encounter somebody you can't kill you either go somewhere else or... Well, die. Neither of which is all that bothersome.

I encourage you to start playing again and find out for yourself... Do not get eso+ until you know if you like it or not. It's that simple.

The forums as a whole, while being extremely educated, sometimes give an overly negative outlook on things. The people here push the limits of pve and pvp. They know the meta and enjoy fighting other meta players and they have problems that everybody doesn't have.

Boring meta leading to stalemates all the time and very bad server performance.

It's like a perfect storm of sweat and salt.

Optimized defense is insane and unbeatable, but you still need to know which sets and skills to abuse and get some practice in. Once you do, like React said you rotate your defensive skills and pretty much can't die.

All offense is weak compared to optimized defense, but it's still very power crept compared to offense a few years ago. So if you bring a casual build, or can't stay 100% sweaty focused 100% of the time and make a defensive mistake, you can still very quickly get bursted down by combos, bombs, zergs, etc.

Worst of both worlds. Evenly matched fights are dragged out stalemates. Deaths are sudden and seemingly random. Casuals get completely destroyed mechanics they don't understand and have no good way to learn. Tryhards get bored and end up stomping casuals just trying to get away from "yet another stalemate."

But hey, if you've never experienced the power fantasy of solo wrecking a bunch of PvPers you know aren't trying as hard as you are, it can be a guilty pleasure, at least until you remember how the guys on the other end feel.

Yes, you can still find large battles on Gray Host PC NA but, if it gets large enough the performance can degrade somewhat.

It's significantly easier for me to get into Cyrodiil than it was earlier this year so the population is likely down a fair bit.

Chat does have arguments still as well frequently about where the faction should be going and some other petty items.

Generally speaking from a casual EP perspective, fighting against AD is fun more often than not and fighting against DC isn't fun most of the time. DC tends to bring more coordinated groups when they show up and they also tend to either show up in ridiculous numbers or not at all.

The actual combat can kind of stink a fair portion of the time.

If I didn't need the transmutes and kind of want the Knight of the Circle armor I would not be in Cyrodiil.

If you don't have lots of defenses/heals you are going to die nearly instantly much of the time if anyone gets a clear shot at you.

As a result, many players shift towards high defenses and heals which means that many of the players are not enjoyable to fight 1 vs 1 as they take forever to die and that coordinated groups aren't either as they take it up to 11.

PvP is bleeding players faster than any other portion of the game as far as I can tell.

The last two weeks the daily raid group I run with has been lucky to get 9 guild members running regularly. It's getting really bad and the effect is snowballing. I'm starting to wonder how much longer the guild will continue with daily raids.

And every day we fight against the same group of players too. There isn't any new blood coming in to replace the losses.

Probably not worth it to come back, will be far worse than whatever you expect. All camps are dead except for GH which is dominated mostly by ball groups. It's somehow been even worse the past few days, prime time was boring, absolutely nothing was happening besides ball group field fighting. A rss flipping was a notable event.

Yes, there's a lot of ball groups nowadays, with massive heals, and speed, and it's even worse when they're not playing for the map, and just try to troll at keeps. Really frustrating to deal with them.

The number of new threads has gone down significantly. Also the tongue in cheek or ranting is absent. These threads are quite moderate and clearly constructive but still sometimes nostalgy takes me down the road to more chaotic Forum pvp.

Population imbalnace for more than a yaer, and faction teaming is killing the game, apart from all the other stuff noted here. I think i will be leaving soon. The toxicity of the game is an an all time high. I have posted in another chat some issues with PVP and i actaully don't think i will get a response and i dont think there will be change.

Twelve tanks meet at Cyrodiil and one of them says "what if we stuck mountain of HoTs on ourself, that would be crazy.
And that is PvP of present days.
    PvP - Recruit.
    PvE - Dragon food
RPG - A guy who thought, that he can defeat daedric prince, yet guards still chase him off when he accidentally touches some object during daily writs.

There's still large battles, for eg., I recently I got a 45k tick during non-prime time, which you don't see a lot outside mid-year mayhem, so yeah there's still big battles happening. Performance improved for a while after they finished their hardware upgrades, but degraded again, however, there's a code rewrite in the works, as well as a quarter devoted to fixes from next year, so I'm hoping this means performance improvements for overland PvP. Combat-wise,my only gripe is that there are a lot of ball groups that are kind of annoying to deal with, they have speed, heals, CC immunity, and hit like a truck, so unless you have an equally organized group to take them on, they will farm players for a while in keeps which gets frustrating. I think if you already own the game, there's no downside to coming back and seeing things for yourself. There's a few of mythic items released over the last couple of years that are used in a lot of builds, but you can make good builds without farming them, so I wouldn't let that deter you.

I do not understand this whole "ball group are evil" things. In every game (and in the real world too) where ppl can work together the more organised team will beat the less organised one. You can make any sets, change any rules, mechanics etc but if the ppl can communicate and work together they will win. So Ball Groups are simply the "progress raiders of PvP"

in principle, you are right that players who play together are and should be superior to those who are disorganized. however, the ballgroup system is a bit degenerate, as this has less to do with skillful teamwork than with the complete exhaustion of game mechanics.

normally, the average ballgroup player can only run straight with effort, since he has nothing to do except stick, break free and press 3 keys.

but admittedly, as long as the game allows it, there will be players who use it, and that's perfectly ok. after all, zos could make the whole thing abruptly more difficult by limiting the possibilities of healing accordingly.

I have no problem with ball groups, I used to play in them when I used to play. You'll find a lot of the complaints have to do with game mechanics that are overpowered in an organized group, not the group itself. Stacked HoTs, group purging, etc...this has all been talked to death and clearly ZOS has no intention of addressing it, but most of the complaints are the mechanics that make organized group too strong defensively. Offensively, coordinating damage should be incredibly effective, and it is.
