Help. Before I retrieve DISAPPEARED storage chest OAKEN

Logged in today ,went to home and two storage chest filled with random gold armor sets no longer sit in there spots that I placed them in (and I have never moved him from this spot before) and they're not placed in any of my other homes. Retrieve menu says they're 506 m away standing in the original spot where they were located. If I move in any direction away from the original spot the distance becomes further away. Even if I build a platform in the air above the original spots the distance gets further away. My conclusion or assumption is they are below my feet 506 m because when I travel upwards 20 m they become 526 m away I thought maybe I could pinpoint where they are or where they have morphed to in my house but they only get further away on the retrieve menu. So the help I need is. If I retrieve them from whatever realm they have disappeared to, will it destroy everything that's in them since it's not placed in another house. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions because maybe something like this has happened to you all before thanks

This is a problem across all platforms and has been for several updates now.

It is always a guessing game whether my chests, coffers, Armory station, and other collectible furnishings will be where I left them or yeeted hundreds of meters away to inaccessible locations.

In my partner's house, it is the Aeonstone lighting furnishing that is sometimes there and sometimes elsewhere.

So far it's only been "collectible furnishings" for me.

ETA: forgot to mention that you should have no problem with the items inside. You can in fact "disappear" the chests and coffers by stowing them in every house, and your items will still be there when you put them back out.

I don't know, but I'd just place them in another house and then retrieve the instances stuck in the void.

If you don't have any other houses, I think an inn room is like 3k gold, or a bit of time to make a new char and get a room that you don't own yet

The items inside will not be deleted if you retrieve the chest. They are considered "instanced" the same way your banked items are.

Someone just decided to bury your treasure.

And here I am with an opposite housing problem lol. My very first house has a "ghost" item in it that I can't remove. That is it was an item I had placed in it when I bought the house way back but have since removed. However, the item is still there, visible on the wall and can't be removed! It also does not count towards furnishing slots. There is only 1 other item in the house, "the antiquities map of the zone" and the furnishing limit shows only 1 item.

Wow if I could figure out how to duplicate this issue, we could have found a way to have more items in our houses!

Storage chest inventories are essentially mini-banks. The storage chest furniture is just a furniture form representation for the inventory, a furnishing you can use to access the mini bank functionality.

You can remove the storage chest furniture safely. You can move it safely. They are just that, furniture. Any manipulation done does not affect the inventory functionality.

No it won't destroy anything in the chests. Just use retrieve to pick them up then place them back in their spot again.
