Voice chat is not the same as text to speech, and I think a lot of console games have voice chat on as a default these days. It's not quite the same environment/culture as PC, who have always traditionally used discord for years.
I understand the concerns, but I think there will not be cause to worry. I don't think it will default for live; they MIGHT have it auto-enabled for the PTS just to encourage people to test it. But we will soon see tomorrow.

It doesn't matter to me if it's voice chat or text to speech, it's still something that I don't want to listen to.
As far as discord, I only use it if doing a group activity that requires it, and that is rare. I don't think it's the norm for PC players to use discord every time they play. Maybe some do but I haven't met them.

Can't wait to hear sales and guild adverts in robot voice.
I really don't get this "don't want to use voice chat" phenomenon that a subset of players in many different games seem to present nowadays. When we put together trial groups and have to PUG DPS we say discord is required but you don't need to speak because call outs are important in mech heavy content and there are players who don't even want to be in discord to just listen. I've seen this with my daughter's generation who love to text but seem scared to actually call a business to order pizza. It's bizarre from the standpoint of someone who's been online gaming since the mid 90s and has made a lot of long time IRL friends from chatting in gaming - even as one who's mostly introverted.
