I'm sick and tired of getting this as a pledge and having group after group after group (almost always over 1000cp too, so that should tell you something about how unintuitive this game is) being unable to do the Droda mechanic, even after being told what to do.

This nonsense needs to be nerfed.

1. Let us taunt Droda.
2. Let us interrupt her drain/heal mech.
3. Add a combat tip that tells the player they need to break free.

Honestly, not one part of this fight as it currently stands is fun. It's a chore and I'm sick and tired of having to slog through it and deal with players who don't want to listen when being told the specifics of how to break free.

It never thought someone would struggle this hard to do a non-DLC veteran dungeon. Tbh If your fellow group mates can't do it after you told them how to do it. It's on then. Roll dodging away from her AoE when she teleports and breaking free to avoid her health drain is little to no effort compared to some other dungeons, arenas and trials. Direfrost Keep is fine, but people need to pay attention to mechanics instead of avoiding them.

I can imagine how atrocious it would have been if they queued for DLC dungeons lol

    1. One of the more unique fights where a tank is redundant. If taunt worked ZOS could play it in one of two ways for the drain mechanic. They could have it so that only the tank gets drained or have the drain still be random. Boss fights are either or in terms of mechanics being random (Mylenne Moon-Caller, crosses fingers to not be chosen and save who I can) or directed at the tank (Dranos Velador, I always focus on saving the tank, but if I'm tanking in a pug I purposely lose aggro prior to mechanic to make mechanic random cause too many times none be interrupting adds smdh). The main difference from the Droda fight is needing some else to save you.

    2. IMO if they had it so that others could save ya, then they would probably remove the break free component. To my knowledge all other boss lockdowns in dungeons require someone to interrupt the boss, while Droda's is the only one where you need to save yourself.

    3. A break free combat tip would be great for peeps who still don't understand how important it is to get back control of your character even if you're just randomly feared I remember more than once where I had to demonstrate how to break free by holding block and bashing before the Droda fight while describing the mechanic in chat.

To be honest, I don't think a nerf is needed. Players just need to be willing to listen to others in their group or get kicked. Being kicked will hopefully encourage them to listen to dungeon tips from others.

    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

If it's bothering you that much, you can slot a purge for those people who will not learn.

(Note: pretty sure this is a long-standing bug which was never addressed, just like you could purge the chains from Sabina Cedus in Fang Lair which was later fixed from PTS at the time)

LOL, I detest that fight, and I've done it solo several times recently to complete my sticker book for the helms which makes it worse than terrible when I get it with some random who just cannot or will not break free and there is nothing we can do but hope she kills them.

Not sure I'd change it though, maybe delay the heal a few seconds (she seems to get a tick or two before it is even possible to break free), maybe scale it back at the start then ramp up fast (along with the damage so she can just kill whoever cannot do the mechanic and the rest can finish the fight), or even just let others bash / interrupt.

Also, break-free sucks (not the intended mechanic but how it actually works or rather doesn't) and the default binding (double mouse keys) on PC is garbage and should be updated to a single key (as in the default should be updated).

To be honest, I'd prefer if they went the route of making it harder. Make it so the tethered person cannot be healed. So they break free or they die, and if they die after 5~6 seconds, the boss won't continuously and indefinitely heal. Or give the tether ramping damage so that eventually (maybe 10 seconds) a tick would be a one-shot. Then you can just leave them dead. Punish the person with the tether for not breaking free, not the group because of one person.

When I saw the title I thought this was going to be about those unnecessary floor plates.

I am honestly surprised to hear that Drodda is still causing headaches, because once you learn how to conserve the stamina to break free, she is one of the easiest bosses in the base game. Just because her mechanics are so predictable.

Although, to be fair, usually when you get immobilized by a dungeon boss, someone else has to go and bash them to free you. I wonder how many players just sit in the beam waiting for someone to bonk Drodda.

If I had to adjust her battle while maintaining the importance of breaking free, I would reduce the healing from the beam to make it less likely that Drodda will top off her health, and increase the damage from the beam to incentivize learning how to escape it. It is much less painful to scrape someone off the floor than it is to drag the entire fight out.

There's a way around it when solo. Not sure I should post it here in case someone decides to 'fix' it. Devs may be aware of it since it has existed for so long though.

Technically getting past the gate opened by the two plates requires another player, but nothing in the dungeon itself requires more than one player, and there are ways to do it solo.

Sadly, the developers have wasted resource time patching some of the older ways - go figure, spend resources making one of the easiest dungeons more annoying to solo because of a gate mechanic while leaving in a stupid boss mechanic that lets the idiot in your group make finishing on vet impossible or at least very, very, very annoying.

    ZOS priorities lol.

Remember having a lot of problems at direfrost at my first time in vet, was on healer and I blocked too much so I was out of stamina and could not break free.
Now I say if you get an group who struggle here you are unlucky, granted I gotten groups struggling in normal dlc.
I say change the pressure plates so you can solo it.

I mean I'm also sick and tired of Direfrost, but that's because it was my go-to duo dungeon with my wife for years and years to test out our builds on. We'd go in, I'd usually be testing out a DPS and she'd be testing out either a healer or a tank. So we did that dungeon to death.

So your problem with it is the final boss? The break-free mechanic is obvious. You're in a state where you need to break free or you can't do anything, so I don't think there needs to be more than what's already there. As for the healing mechanic, it can be a bit annoying on vet, but you just gotta have okay DPS in your group to out gun her. As for not being able to taunt, she can be taunted, it's only the teleport mechanic that causes her to target the furthest person away, a la usually the healer.

heh, this reminds me of when i first did vet direfrost & I just could not break free from Drodda's drain & she kept healing back to full health every time. One DPS was losing his mind yelling "BREAK FREE BREAK FREE!" in chat... I'm mashing my break free button but nothing is happening! Finally the DPS has had enough, he questions my sexual orientation, infers that my mother may be overly promiscuous by current social standards & quits.

While we waited for an new DPS to que in, I discovered my break free was not bound to a key. :#
    Easy clear then, lol.

I don't understand how people haven't figured out that mechanic, its even relevant on normal mode.

Tanked for a low level group doing the dungeon for the first time during the pledge, one was doing the quest the other 2 seemed just intent on clearing it, how did I know it was all their first time then? Had to tell them how to use the pressure plates.

The 2 not doing the quest rushed up the stairs, I stayed back helped the guy doing the quest with the 3 bosses around the fire, then we caught up to the other 2, for the frost atro battle after than I explained in chat about the break free mechanic on are way to the final boss. The guy doing the quest had a little bit of trouble conserving his stamina but other than that no issues.

And by tanked I mean just that not as a dps with a taunt, but a shield and board one bar resto the other, filling both the tank and healer role where necessary, didn't annihilate everything in my path for them, kept the bosses focused on me kept the group alive, kept them supplied with resources and sources of penetration and concussion on mobs and gave them the chance to learn the dungeon.

Now that is on normal but still, its not a hard mechanic to get your head around, just don't understand how supposedly high level players doing it on vet can struggle so much.

I only find her really frustrating on vet hard mode.

Honestly this is the simplest mechanic. It does NOT need nerfing.
I type in chat the buttons to press to break free when she lifts you up. Usually works.
