Gamepad AND keyboard controls don't work after zoning

I tried again today, but with an alt account so I don't mess anything up on my main. On gamepad mode, even though my controller light was on and plugged in, the game had no idea I had a controller, until I hit the ESC button and went into the settings and changed in the PC UI to Automatic. Well, it recognized the gamepad, BUT started disconnecting while browsing the Event merchant, while trying to look in my storage guild bank, and just randomly started the crazy stuff again where it was actually scrolling the menu on it's own. After backing out of the menu by pressing ESC (the only functioning control I have at my disposal when this occurs), my toon was walking on her own until again I pressed ESC and just quit the game out of frustration.

I use the gamepad UI, the gamepad key functions, the keyboard chat, and have been testing this issue on straight gamepad mode and Automatic (which is what my typical default would be since I use keyboard to chat and with some Add ons for guild store). I have accessibility OFF and I use PCUI for game start.

Still a problem on PS5/NA. Some kind of acknowledgement that they are aware of the issue would be nice and not more of head in the sand approach.

    Stay safe :)

I just suffered through this for two hours today. I had to keep hotkey swapping from gamepad to PC UI and jumping through hoops to get my controller to work again.

Still a problem. Xbox NA, while zoning.
Happened in a random normal as well, luckily they didn’t kick me while I loaded back in.

This is something we've been investigating but are having trouble reproducing the issue internally. We'll continue to try and pinpoint the issue but any additional information couldn't hurt. Let's start with the following to see if there are any commonalities:
    • What kind of controller are you using?
    • Is Accessibility Mode on or off?
    • Are you in a group or solo?

Not sure if this is the same thing, but in groups, more so dungeons, I've had three different issues(2 personal), all of which had to do with skills not working.

Keyboard/mouse, the first time all my skills, even la/ha were void of use in a dungeon. This occurred several weeks ago, the solution was logging out of the game and back into the game, not reloadui nor logging into character select.

The 2nd time was different, my skills were black and white squares, but that was resolved with a weapon swap. This was a night or two ago also dungeon.

A friend of mine also had his skills locked and it resolved when we entered a different area of the dungeon...not through a door/instance, It was vBCII, we killed the first boss, pulling all the trash up to the 2nd boss, his skills froze, we killed the 2nd boss, and on the way through trash and to the 3rd boss, his skills became active again. This was a couple days ago for the pledge.

I don't know if his skill locks was like mine or not, mine was more urgent to fix as I was the Tank, and he was a DPS for his situation.

Separate rant........the above is relevant to this topics thread, but I'm not a one track minded fellow.

But, skill locks are more of a once in a blue moon situation, the whole not loading into a dungeon issue is more annoying, where half the team doesn't load or it shows you kicked or if you try to port to the dungeon to join your team, it kicks you off the team no matter how many times you re-invite them and they port in.

Also queue logic, Tank supper fast, Healer fast, DPS super slow...Tank and DPS slow, Tank and Healer Slow, Tank, Healer, and DPS if Tank or Healer queues it's slow, but if DPS queues it's super fast to fast.
I don't play DPS roles, so unsure if the time frame has improved or not, but can't be much better considering the amount of Fake Tanks and Healers we are plagued with in pugs

Super fast - instant to 30 secs
    Fast - 30 secs to 6 mins
    slow - 10min-30mins
    Super slow - 30+ mins

Also people reading this, don't do a random vet if you've not done all the dungeons on normal. You should not be unfamiliar with the mechanics, most people won't teach you as you go in pugs.

-Both PS4 controller on PC, and with PS5 on console

[*] Is Accessibility Mode on or off?
    -Off

[*] Are you in a group or solo?

I should note, I have not seen this issue pop up recently, but my playtime has been severely reduced.

What kind of controller are you using?

    I'm using a Logitech F310 wired gamepad.

Is Accessibility Mode on or off?

    Off

Are you in a group or solo?

    Solo

As others have reported, doing /reloadui fixes the problem.

I'm not surprised that you're having a problem reproducing it because it doesn't happen often.

To be honest, I'm more frustrated by the guild trader interface bug when using a gamepad, because there's no workaround for that except to use the keyboard. Fortunately I can do that, but players who must use a gamepad would have no workaround if they run into the problem (I have another bug thread open for the problem, which happens all the time). The problem is that I'm unable to scroll through search results in the guild trader interface. I believe R-stick used to do the scrolling. Now it does nothing. Like I said, I can use the keyboard instead, but if I forget to initiate the guild trader interface with the keyboard (using 'E' to talk to the guild trader NPC), I have to back out and do it again, which is frustrating.

This UI bug is happening less often since the last patch for PS. It is always immediately after fast traveling (via wayshrines) for me. I can only move, can’t interact with anything, and have to press touchpad and Options at the same time to bring up text chat box to type /reloadui, nothing else works other than PS button. I am not currently queuing for dungeons so I cannot comment on whether it is related or not.

Happens on PS5, so not sure if you can have an accessability mode there, using the dualsense PS5 controller. It happens to me solo, I only tend to group for trials and I don't remember seeing it travelling into a trial. For me it happens travelling to a wayshrine both from a wayshrine or in the wild via the map. I don't do anything in particular before hand that is repeatable such as go into menus or use an ulti or anything like that. I do get the issue at roughly once a day

    • What kind of controller are you using?

Controller - MIcrosoft Xbox Robot White - it is a wireless controller, however since my bluetooth is not working on my PC I have it wired to my pc.
    https://www.xbox.com/en-ca/accessories/controllers/xbox-wireless-controller#

    Accessibility - Off

Group or Solo - Mostly Solo, however did encounter a problem with a zone group WB a month or so ago. Lately however I have only tested solo.

During gameplay, normally I do use my windows key to go to my desktop to look up something on the internet or various reasons, and I noticed this would also trigger my game inputs to stop working. Not sure if it was just simply using the keyboard that did this or if it was specifically the windows key, but it was a consistent trigger to disabling my gamepad/keyboard inputs, in addition to the other examples in my previous posts. (Guild bank, Event Merchant browsing etc)

In my Event Viewer in my Windows Admin - under Applications I did get a gaming.exe error. Not sure if that is relative or not. I use Xbox Game Bar on PC, just recently uninstalled the Xbox Accessories App to see if that would help or not as my Controller is linked to my Xbox profile. Since I started having this issue, I have unplugged my Xbox entirely so my controller wouldn't get confused and turn my Xbox on which was happening a lot late summer. Also uninstalled the Microsoft Game Input Application as that had errors. My computer reinstalled this. Not sure if any of this is relative, however I was trying various things to see if improvements could be made. I noticed once I uninstalled the Xbox Accessories App (this is where I had my Xbox profile linked to my controller), my computer was registering the Xbox button again to bring up the game bar, as for some reason it stopped responding. This could be entirely co-incidental. Prior to uninstalling, I did update the firmware to it's current version.

During the times I tested my controller in Eso, and when it was having the crazy moments, scrolling through the menu rapidly etc., on exit from the game, my desktop was uncontrollable as my cursor was freaking out up and down my start menu. I had to use my restart button my pc when it started doing that. Only had this happen on exiting ESO.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to this post @ZOS_GinaBruno, as I know not every bug post is responded to. Although I know the Devs look at all the bug posts, it does help a lot to give us hope when we know something is getting worked on. I can't speak for everyone else, but this one is grateful for your response, and is hopeful once again. Please PM me if you wish further info on these errors, as my technical knowledge is somewhat limited.

    • What kind of controller are you using? - Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (plugged in, automatic switching on in game settings)
    • Is Accessibility Mode on or off? - Off
    • Are you in a group or solo? - Both (PC)

I've noticed this issue occurring, it happens after porting or logging in sometimes. It doesn't happen all the time. For me though the only thing that works is the R stick for viewing around. The things that 'fix' it for me is hitting 'esc' key then moving the L stick - which goes back to gameplay, and if that doesn't work I unplug and plug my controller back in.

    Standard Xbox one controller
Accessibility mode has never been used
It has happened both solo and in a group

I've been leveling Tales of Tribute all day today, and on 4 toons it's happened to me 6 times.
It happens wayshrine traveling, traveling to guildmates, and leaving dungeon instances.
Literally doing anything for any period of time, and it's happened to everyone I play with.

The only fix is to hit the home button and end the game.

The fact that it happens with Official PS4 controllers is cause for concern.

After today's update, am having this issue as well which I was not having before. Everytime I use a wayshrine my character loads in but cannot do anything other than walk. No other commands are working. Tried 2 different controllers, same problem.

I'm now having controller issues with the FireSong patch. I play on PC with an Xbox controller. It now makes me freeze up, spins my view, makes me look at the sky or ground. I can barely play with it like this and it's making me angry. I don't have this issue with other games and this didn't happen before this newest DLC. Even the dpad and x y b a buttons aren't responding a lot of the time. I've never turned on accessibility and it happens in solo and group play. My controller is wired.

When this happed to me last night, I can only explain it as all keybinds got disabled. The only thing that worked was the analogue sticks. I tried pressing every button and got no response. But, eventually I found I could press enter and then reload from chat.

I have done some experimenting and what I have found is the following:

My Xbox One controller that I posted in an earlier post - does work on my Xbox One AND in ESO without issue. I have the older Xbox One S. Very confusing as the new ones are also called X/S but this is the older one.

Now the very same controller stopped working altogether on my PC. After digging into my Event Viewer in my Device Manager I have found that the device was not migrating and getting a mismatch error for the XInput. After troubleshooting various things with drivers etc. and reinstalling the Xbox Accessories App, I have realized my BIOS needs updating. For over a year my controller worked on PC, but for some reason after either the Win 10 Pro updates, firmware updates, and driver updates, it is now conflicting with my outdated BIOS. The errors I was having was that USB was not recognized, the Xinput errors so it would seem that my PC was having issues resolving the input, so it would make sense why ESO could not find the input data.

I have installed my previous Xbox One controller that had the stick drift issue via USB Microsoft Play and Charge which is an older model that may not be conflicting with Xinput or my outdated BIOS.

At some point I will update my BIOS, however for now . my older version Xbox One controller does work besides the annoying stick drift issue. Side note it was previously linked to my Xbox account, and also installed on my PC, so the Xbox App recognized it. I 'skipped' the update and it seems to work.

I see many people that have posted here have 'wired' their controller even if it is a wireless. Not everyone, but I do see it as a common theme in this thread. Just wondering if others are also having these events in their device manager with the Xinput 'not migrating' the device and finishing the set up due to a 'mismatch error'. My technical knowledge is very limited but wanted to post my current update to my issue.

Recap: Newer model controller - works on Xbox One - not on PC, Older version of Xbox One wireless controller works on PC AND in ESO with Keyboard function.

Please let me know if you have any questions as I would be more than happy to provide more detailed info.

My controller is a wired controller. No wireless. I use it to play all my games, and I only have problems in ESO.

I'm on Windows 11. I checked device manager and viewed the events for my controller and everything is fine. No errors or warnings. I guess this suggests that there's more than one cause behind this.
