Dark Convergence - done with this game until it's gone

Dark Convergence ruined this game's potential imo. I played this game religiously through thick and thin times since 2015, primarily PvP. Despite the many setbacks others have had with changes made over the years, I never minded really minded myself. I definitely had frustrations at times but I ultimately still made the best of them and had fun. I'm nowhere near being one of the great PvPers but I can handle losing and still have fun, so this isn't just a salty post. So many fun memories in PvP - wins and epic losses! But everything changed for me when dark convergence came out.

Whole fun fights just get sucked into it and decimated with a few ultimates. What used to be a fun PvP experience with drawn-out, adrenalin-pumping combat is now, for me at least, completely contingent on whether that set is around or not. When dark convergence is around, there is no fun battle flow anymore - you're just pulled out of combat so frequently and frankly, pulled out of the in-game world experience that takes you away from your real-world troubles.

I've taken several breaks from eso since dark convergence's arrival hoping to come back to it being nerfed or removed. I came for the PvP so I can only stay distracted by PvE content for so long. Now that I'm realizing this set is here to stay, I'm honestly thinking this just isn't the game for me anymore. I'm sure it's dramatic - all over one set. It just ruins the whole experience for me and I'm really that disappointed in the kind of PvP play it has led to - what it was before and what it is now.

Decent health, block/dodge roll out or just walk out.

It can be annoying but it can be overcome.

Most of the time that is true. In the memorial district of Imperial City some have figured out how to place the AoE so that it grabs DC players as soon as they go up the ladder.
I don't mind dark convergence most the time but something needs to happen so a player can't be yanked off a wall by a well placed AoE.
Does get frustrating when a ball group throws out four or five of them in a pattern followed by appropriate ulimates then runs around keeping each other healed while building ultimate again for repeat.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

Indeed. I'm actually a healer so I tend to survive them. But half of those around me blow up and then there isn't enough of a team to put up a fight. Or on the other end, someone on my team makes the proc and the enemy players blow up so quick that the fight just becomes an underwhelming win with nothing to be proud of.

Yeah I use it in pve. It's very fun and helps position mobs. In pvp I only use it because I'm too lazy to switch. If it gets nerfed in pvp that is cool. I understand.

Personally I don't feel the set is that disruptive anymore. The second pull got removed, the single-target damage is way down too and the cooldown is longer. Aside from magicka necromancers (who don't really have a lot going for themselves otherwise) I'm not seeing that many people use it anymore. Sure, it's still present and in the right hands it can be deadly but usually it's not that big of a deal. It only becomes an issue when there are a ton of players in a small area together and there should definitely be counter-play to stacked groups. That's where the set shines but it's pretty average otherwise.

I think Nocturnal's Ploy is going to be a lot worse. Managing your buffs is a lot more important in this game. People are complaining about Oakensoul DKs but an Oakensoul DK can get their ult removed by someone with Nocturnal's Ploy using any basic skill that applies a major and/or minor debuff. It can take away your potion sustain too. If multiple people are using Nocturnal's Ploy, even with the 15s cooldown it has, the set can completely ruin your day - worse so than the double pull from early Dark Convergence could. Nocturnal's Ploy undoes whatever you did on two of your global cooldowns, so everyone is going to have to wear it to keep up. Or wear the nerfed Oakensoul because ironically that set counters Nocturnal's Ploy. Or wear both.

More than anything I would want performance to be fixed though. That's what killed the fun in Cyrodiil PvP for me.
This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

I use DC in PVE, though think about dropping it since the latest nerfs.

But I also PVP now and then, and the MYM confirmed again, that DC simply is destroying the gameplay experience there.
Some say "simply block and walk out". Wrong: if it is activated by graveyard or the Necro ultimate, you are dead almost instantly. Such gameplay is far from fun, and I'm glad when MYM is over.

    Hey there,

We do apologize as the incorrect Thread about Dark Convergence was closed down. The other that were active were previously older. As this one is the newer one, with recent postings only, it will be reopened.

We apologize for the confusion. Thank you for your understanding

Absolutely not true. If you're near the heart of a Colossus proc dodge roll is not going to get you out. If you're not on cc immunity you can't block because you're stunned.

I spent a couple hours today on a full tank pve build in Cyrodiil. All my deaths were DC procs.

The meta gankers cant kill me. I shrug off Cold Fire like it's nothing. But a decent dc proc will kill me every time. By decent I mean one that's also hitting several other players. Its damage stacks and you have the vd proc from the squishy people on top of that and the size of the AoE prevents you getting out and the stun preventing you blocking and.... theres simply no counter play whe someone who knows what they're doing procs it.

It's not just DC though. The Colossus simply deals too much damage over too short a time. It's ridiculous how hard that thing hits. Which is why every dc bomber is a necro rn.

MM is a DC fest. Got myself killed yesterday trying to run away from a ball group which had at least 5 players using it. So, try to break free while being hit multiple times in a few seconds apart. CC immunity doesn't seem to work.

It’s a crappy set that makes PVP less fun, if you like to use skills, not procs. Gimps use it.

I don’t mind the set, although I’m only starting out in pvp courtesy of some rather awesome guild mates. Ironically I did take the hated dark convergence set into no CP with my toon, and I’ll say this, it’s quite fun throwing an AOE heal onto allies who are getting mobbed in CC and having DC proc, gave them breathing room and time for me to heal them up 🤫

I can Deal with DC on a good Performance with all my Classes.

But on Bad Performance (PC EU + XBOX EU) so let me say 95% cause i can only Play Prime Time because of working....

And here im not agree and say pls drop this Pull effect. Mostly it pulls my in the rolldodge or after im completly out of circle, or it pulls me 5-10m away from circle, cause this game have a rlly bad Player Positioning in the bad Perromance.

This with PB/VD/Accult its 90% in my Death Recap. Only on my Nightblade im fine with it.

Aynway dont understand the Design. You told us you wanna do someting against Ballgroup but you put Sets like PB and DC into Game and Push CP Like Occult. But this feel more a Toy and Push and not a nerf, cause you not wanna touch the Hot stacking. Oh lord..

I gotta say this thread reminds me of how silly pvp could be in Guild Wars 1. The fun of searing flames wrecking pvp, or touch rangers... or the hilariously broken whirling dervish.

Pvp is always about finding ways to cheat the system - not enough is done to create a level playing field in any MMO you play.

I used to love logging into guild wars and entering observer mode to watch the top pvp matches of that day. A great system.

Op.you are correct , this set should have never made it to live and should have never been in pvp period. People made post and videos about how broken this set was for pvp back when it was on the pts. Should have been locked to pve only.

Im not a fan of Dark Convergence either. In fact, its part of the reason I really dont PvP anymore, but I also dont think that its the problem. Its a symptom of a larger issue. That is the sets that ZOS introduces in general. I suspect we will see it again very soon with Nocturnals Ploy. And when that set is gone there will be another.

To me, it sucks the fun out of what it could be.

I use it for PVE only and it's a blast to use in dungeon runs! Especially on a Necro. Mob's get pulled in quickly. Never had a Tank get angry about it but I can see it may be an issue. Still, fun to use in PVE.

DC is definitely an annoying, and brainless set to exist in PvP. However, like others have said, the mechanic is simple enough to get out of. The problem is that it becomes uncounterable when used with Plaguebreak/VD and Occult Overload. Simply blocking or roll dodging does nothing when you're deleted in 1 shot. The combination is entirely op, and allows players to gain access to ridiculous damage without much skill.
