Disabling speech from companions completely? Well, it's everyone's personal choice, I'm fine with having options.
I'm just wondering what the use of companions is, then? Most content so so easy that you don't really need them, and if you solo group dungeons with them, they don't really talk that much while fighting. I actually think their chitchat is one of the main reasons they exist - roleplay, immersion, adding to the atmosphere, etc...
Not every player finds most content easy.

If I harvest wood I tell him "your coffin" some ore and he hears "your headstone" and similar responses for other things harvested.
