DoT's maybe they should try the opposite instead.

Example:

Live: 10 second DoT deals 10k over its duration = 1000 damage per second.

PTS: 20 second DoT +33% deals 13300 over its duration = 665 damage per second.

What if they did the opposite to certain DoT's?

Alternative: 5 second DoT -33% deals 6700 over it duration = 1340 damage per second.

But here is the thing. Because it only lasts 5 seconds, now you can't just fill up on DoT's on your bar which would still result in a NET DPS loss (which is intended). However, players that wish to focus on using DoT's can do and thus DoT builds aren't wrecked. Allowing them to be still useful in trash fights and viable in PvP.

Not saying that this would be good for all DoT's, but maybe a select few of them. Ground DoT's for example.

Result is the same for parses, due to time limitation, while at the same time buffing their individual DPS which is ultimately what DoT's need.

So basically rotate 5 skills on frontbar in PvE?

Hey, I never said this was a great idea. But given this PTS... I think any idea could be acceptable in comparison.

Imagine if before the combat changes were announced, someone came up with the same idea as what is on PTS now. I think most of the community would think they were trolling or had no idea what they were talking about. But here we are.

In response to your question, basically yes. Back bar for buffs with long durations, front bar for damage and active abilities.

    Example:

    Magden:

Backbar: 20 second buffs such as: Lotus Blossom, Ice Fortress, Arctic Blast could keep its 10 second duration but lower damage, Elemental Susceptibility and maybe Mystic Orb could stay 10 seconds.

Frontbar: Bird of Prey for passive, Degeneration 6 second DoT 12 second buff, Winter's Revenge 6 seconds, Unstable Wall 5 seconds, Frost Reach Spam.

You could rotate 4 times on your front bar before going to your back bar resulting in a short downtime on DPS while you reapply buffs. Same effect reducing DPS overall but not gutting DoT's completely.

Because ZOS said managing dot timers of 10s or less was too hard. ;)

Seriously, 2s ticks on dots makes them useless to slot for anything but PVE bosses, and even then why waste the slots.

No worries. Tank will be dead, anyway. Boss DoTs still tick every second, but HoTs now tick every other second. Meaning tanks will take twice as much damage before getting health topped off. Which means a lot of non one-shots will now kill tanks because their health will be fluctuating much more, making them vulnerable during the time between HoT ticks.
