Devs Out of Touch

Have any ZOS employees completed any end game content? Gryphon Heart? Godslayer? Any trifecta clears? I’d wager not.

Now I get it, ZOS has a negative balance sheet (prior to MS saving them) and they need a way to sell their game to more people, but as the end game players continue to leave in droves, this will kill the game as those are the players that teach others how to play the game (as ZOS doesn’t have any real tutorials). I mean I can’t even fill prog groups anymore

This patch won't help the balance sheet as this patch hurt us lower end players exponentially harder. I have a disability and it was all I can do to knock out 26k. I'm now parsing at 14k. I can kiss trial and Vet dungeons goodbye now. I'm done if this goes live.

    :( sorry about that

I agree, though. This patch actually hurts casual players wanting to get more into the game. “High-end” players will still breeze on through, while it is now even harder for low end players. You will now need perfect weaving and APMs for certain content (namely the newer vet trials DPS checks).

In a similar boat. Been working hard for the past 19 months to get to 50k, got there, and if this patch goes live I expect to be hitting <40k DPS. If I do, I'm just turning off damage numbers and stop trying to get better if I keep playing.

This is what I don't understand.

The newer trials are HARD. And they are DESIGNED to get absolutely stupid dps. The speedrun for vRG hm is literally impossible if you can't push atros with dds in portals. VDSR is DESIGNED to split the team into 6 and 6 to kill bosses for the speedrun!

How can you make mechanics and achievements where you literally NEED excessive amounts of damage to perform them, and then nerf damage like this?

All of this right here. My rotation was simple. Buff up with boundless and crit surge then, Destructive reach, unstable wall, weapon swap, lightning flood, two lightning heavy attacks, animation cancel one of my buffs (do other buff in next rotation), and finally repeat from reach. If enemy is at excute range then I mix in some Mages' Wrath. I also use the elemental rage ultimate or overload depending on circumstances.

Now I always parse on the pts to ensure that I can still hit 50k+ on the trial dummy and 30k+ on the 3 million... I didn't bother with the trial dummy considering my parse was between 21-22k on the 3 million dummy. My whole playstyle is messed up with dots taking too long to do anything while I'm essentially doing 6 heavy attacks due to how much wasted time is present while waiting for my skills to end. It was a very unfun experience.

I was only able to get my damage up to 25k on the 3 million dummy by using the new set that gives empower (Rage of the Ursauk) rip Kinras. The fact that they introduce sets like this along side a nerf to light and heavy attacks show that they only care about getting people to subscribe for or outright the buy new content. It's quite vile and despicable. My time played in this game is ridiculous, but for the first time in a long time I really don't want to play this game anymore. It's just not fun and all they are doing is making it harder for people to play in a way that most suits them.

    Favorite Foods and Potions

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Without getting too off topic, some of the blame lies squarely at the feet of the gaming community itself.

It's about maximizing profits. By making a game harder, they're hypothetically increasing the retention time of people playing the game. It takes longer to do something, so you'll stay longer to do the thing and hopefully spend more money. By changing the meta of the game often, sometimes drastically, it forces players to spend more time making new builds, getting new sets, running dungeons to get those sets, etc. By raising the floor, they're making the game more accessible to new players, increasing the likelihood that they'll stick around and try to do the hard content that I mentioned before (the changes don't raise the floor, in fact it does lower it quite a bit). Veteran players are not the target audience, it's new players as newer players are more likely to spend money than veterans; at least that's what the marketing department believes.

there's a lot of reasons, but they all revolve around profits. It's a for-profit game after all, that's the business. Games wouldn't exist if they didn't make money, at least not triple A games made by large companies.

The devs are extremely out of touch. If you have ever seen their livestreams on Twitch where they run through the new dungeons (on NORMAL) they take like an hour to do them (and I'm not talking about the previews, I'm talking about them actually doing the dungeon). I would love to see/know of any devs who regularly do vet HM content, or have tris.

This patch just goes to show that they do not care about the mid-end game community, and this is going to create even more of a rift between casual and higher tier players, and between long time players and the devs.

The devs have talked a lot recently about being transparent and more connected with the community, but it still feels like they aren't listening.

When they came for the RPers and collectors (AWA), many of us said the same thing: they don't care about you, the integrity and spirit of the game, and least of all the opinions and concerns of their paying customers. They proved beyond reasonable doubt back then that "feedback" means nothing unless it echoes their opinion and canned PR responses.

More than 90 pages of feedback about AWA on PTS were ignored. Why would they even care this time?!
U35 (with some minor changes thru the PTS cycle, as usual) will go live regardless if we like it or not.

Even Nefas-- a player who has arguably done more for this game than any other player-- has grown disillusioned and disappointed. .. .

This is free update. But it makes all you buy before (the whole game) - absolute garbage.

Skill changes looks bad (new animation).

    Balance is bad.

    DK is bad !

Undaunted infiltrator is such bad - that DELETE it already !!! Just delete it !!!

Moltan armaments is bad. DK has no unique skills now.

And from MATH point of view - how to make 3 pl trifectas in trials now ?

Is it even possible in such short period of time for achivment ???

HA was changed and now hit 3 not 4 times on lightning stuff. It looks and feels terrible and more important !!!

Even no information that it was changed in patch notes !!!

Remember that we’re the problem because we don’t trust them enough. Meanwhile, they still haven’t fixed the exploit that lets people jump into Glademist. How do they fix it? Remove a tree. Yet, that seems too difficult for a team focused on “balance.”

They balance things by making them worse ! They can not remove the tree and make game better.

But they can add unplayable lags near this castle to do not even let you get to fight there - want some of such changes ? ))))

    Devs out of touch?

Oh yes, I remember a cast time on shields being proposed. Like why would anyone think that was a good idea? Especially when you consider the time of shields was also being nerfed to around 5 seconds, down from 8, and sorc shields no longer scaled from max mag but from health leading to a total gutting of the skill.

The cynic in me wonders if the cast time was a red herring which was never going to make it to live, to make the other changes more palatable. Well I really hope there's a few red herrings in these patch notes.

Worth noting that the dev team that proposed those changes was very different than today's dev team.

Not defending either those or the current changes but we shouldn't act like those changes were proposed by the same people because they weren't.

So we got ActiBlizzard, SQEnix, Atari, Facebook (meta), Rockstar, EA, and now ZOS on that "Disconnected Company" vibe that's all the craze these days. I genuinely don't know what on earth is happening in the gaming community as a whole lately.

Without getting too off topic, some of the blame lies squarely at the feet of the gaming community itself.
To paraphrase a certain movie quote to a slightly more family friendly version:

    "You get what you deserve."

If players weren't so obsessed about how and who deserves this achievement or that one, I do think they'd be able to make changes just to get stuff in the thresholds they want. Like we want the top 10% of the playerbase to be able to do vet trials, but the bottom portion of that group are mostly using dot builds and dot builds don't deserve to be good, so we gotta get them there without allowing them to use those builds. And it never works because if those people could use the better build properly, they'd already be doing it. And so nerfing there stuff isn't gonna make them change builds, it's gonna make them quit.
