Can't get further than 'play' in launcher...

I'm seeing all of these posts about receiving errors or not having early access but my game appears not to be loading... Everything is installed, I have 5 day early access from buying the digital imperial edition, but when I run the launcher and press play nothing happens... at all.

At least you have a button that says Play. Mind keeps switching between "Install" and "Repair" with no progress being made whatsoever.

I too was crashing when hitting play. I ran the game as administrator and it loaded fine. Give that a shot if you haven't. Hopefully it will work for some of you.

My issue is slightly different, when I press play the " Requesting Login" box comes up with the blue spinning circle but then comes up with a message ( after 30 seconds or so), that there is a "login error" and there is a Login Timeout.
That seems to me to mean a packed server system with no room.
If that is the case then ESO has fallen for the same issue that has plagued every other MMO since the launch of MMO's....underestimating game demand on launch.

NOT a good indicator for the future .
I've been gaming since the days of the Commodore 64.
I see no reason to stop now.
    Neither should you !

When I hit "PLAY" it loads a black screen and just hangs there until I force quit. I'm on a mac - ran the repair too - same thing. I am re-downloading / reinstalling the whole thing now :(
  • speedjfreak
jrockis, it didn' t work for me on my Mac Pro (Late 2013, 12 cores, 2 x AMD Firepro D700 6GB, 64 GB Ram, 1 TB Solid State Drive) with a Sharp PN-K321 4K Screen, I had the exact same problem
I went on my Macbook Pro Retina Display (Late 2013, 2,6 GHz i7, 1 TB Solid State Drive), game started (magically) and instead of running at 2880 x 1440, the game runner at 1440x900...
Pissed of this 2 things i tried anyway to login, just to see if the game was fun and well-made, and then i discovered (looking on forums etc) that A LOT of Mac user can' t log into the game due to a bug into the server login, and we are having too many issues for a software that is meant to be used on a Mac.
Straight on, witch a big delusion, I went on Paypal and asked to refund my money, since this game is declared ready to played on a Mac but it' s definitely not. I have the 2 top Macs actually (desktop and laptop) with the 2 top configuration and none of them can run this... I suggest you to do the same thing, maybe they' ll run to get the game ready to be played on a Mac

I'm at the same point. I was in previously and crashing every few minutes randomly so I decided to update my GPU, which I did and now I push play and it crashes automatically. I have GT 660. I've tried repairing. I've run as administrator (but my account protection isn't even on). Still won't let me in.

I have the initializing at 100 percent and when I click play the button goes grey and nothing starts. I noticed that in task manager eso application is running but using 0 percent of resources.

I posted above and I got it to work! Run compatibility mode troubleshooter and run it in the suggested mode! It works for now for me!

I tried compatibility mode and to run as administrator... it's still not working. This is pretty irritating.

I got this response from customer support but I didn't have the text file in my live folder. Maybe this will help for those of you that couldn't get compatibility mode to make it work.

    Greetings Fellow Gamer!

Thank you for contacting The Elder Scrolls Online Team and expressing your interest in helping us test The Elder Scrolls Online.
I understand you are facing an issue where your game doesn't launch after clicking play.
Please try the following to resolve your issue:
    1. Access the folder for ESO

This folder is located at C:\Users\(username)\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\Live

Within that folder you will see a document titled usersettings.txt

    2. Open that file using notepad

    3. Within that file you will see a listing for (the file will be large and have many listings using CRTL+F will allow you search quickly for the listed sections below)

    SET WindowedHeight "1096"

    SET WindowedWidth "1904"

    4. Change the values for these two settings to:

    SET WindowedHeight "1920"

    SET WindowedWidth "1080"
    5. Press Ctrl + F again and search for RequestedNumThreads
You should be on the line, SET RequestedNumThreads "X" (X being what ever number is there)
    Edit the Value to "0"

    6. Once these two values have been changed save the document and relaunch the launcher and hit play again.

If you find that you don't actually have the usersettings.txt file please let me know so I can give the instructions to create one manually.

Please let me know if you encounter any further issues and I will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for your continued interest and support!
    Kind Regards
    Iosac

Your MacBook pro will switch to 1440x900 because it will never be able to run the game at 2880x1440 scaling. it was changed to do this in the last beta build. 1400x900 is 2 pixel scaling and looks great.

This is Apples own recommendation for 3D gaming.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5266

Server login issues on a launch day are nothing unsurprising and personally I have been able to login without issue. It is not a mac specific issue but effecting PC users in the same way.

There is an issue with the Intel HD5000 graphics card which is still not fixed (bug due to Apple's own drivers) A fixe was in but a recent Apple update broke it.

Also, there are other issues with the Launcher generally for both Mac & PC, mainly down to connection issues.

It's never good that players have issues but launch day is always a potential for them. Issues identified have been fixed and any remaining will get fixed.
